Getting this camera for my birthday - can't wait!

What lens would be good to get with this camera. Something quite affordable, around £100.

@rulez27 d90 is better but it is also more expensive. the d5000 is for beginners and just casual shooting and the d90 is or beginner o intermediate

i never put down my lens like that esp without the lens cap on. i just loosen the cap, grab the d90 and attached the lens. less chances of getting dust on the sensor.

I would say so. I'm upgrading from a D60 as well and the D90 is THEE best upgrade and THEE best all around camera. I've done plenty of research and comparison and I've come to the conclusion that the D90 is the same as the D300 (as far as picture quality, ISO quality and over all performance). So a D90 is pretty much a D300 minus a few add-ons that I'm sure you wouldn't care to use.

Where did you buy this? How much did it cost? And what does that fllower thing do?

THATS A lens hood. it kinda protects the lens from your fingers and other objects that might come into contact when handling the camera. reduces the amount of dust falling on the lens.

Most importantly, it prevents sunlight from falling directly on the camera and greatly reduces lens flare.

i just confuse to choose between D90 or Canon 40D or 50D...

D90 only can shoot on 4.5 Fps,, otherwise 40D or 50D can shoot until 6.5 Fps...
