Actually, the different languages in the middle are as follows:

French, Swedish, German, Chinese (Mandarin) and Russian. This is most likely a depiction of the vast amount of different nationalities among those who sought their fortune during the gold rush.

This was filmed in Baker Oregon and caused so much trouble for the area in drugs, the city has banned any future plans for any more film making. The film was a bust and resulted in at least one suicide. The costs were off the scale and it made nothing at the box office. It was however, a classic and a very good film. I relive the music constantly.

Actually, the first foreign-language chorus is DUTCH (not German---yeah, they sound alike). And the character's name in the film is Schemerhorn. And the native American chorus is either Sioux or Lakota.
