I remember this song from a movie we watched in Reading. :) I forget what it was called though!!! Something about a little girl who wants to march, there's a white priest guy who joins the march then is shot later in the movie, there's martin luther king jr. in it? Someone PLEASE tell me thx :)
@CrazyCutesy: The name of the movie you're referring to is called SELMA, LORD, SELMA, featuring Jurnee Smollett and Clifton Powell. I remember when it was first aired on TV years ago. I made sure I stayed up and watched it. Eventually I found it on VHS....and about 2 weeks ago, I found the DVD at WalMart for $5.
I doubt that it's that they don't care about black people. you know, not everyone doesn't like a song because of the people singing it. They probably just don't like the song.
this song inspire millions of people all over the united states and the world it teach all that anything or anybody can be overcome.. even in today world..
I remember singing this, but it had another verse, as well, "Ain't gonna let no bluecoats turn me around. Ain't gonna let no bluecoats run me around." So, the song was very adaptable, and it was easy to add on the issue of the day and/or object of the march or demonstration.

This song is soul searching...is sho nuff touches the inner man no what color..it doesnt matter.. it's a moral conscience that pierces the soul...sing yall!!!
I had the great joy and honor of singing this (albeit a bit faster with more hand-clapping) marching with Dr. King in Montgomery, AL on March 24, 25, 1965. I still get goosebumps hearing it today, nearly 46 years later!

Thank you so much for uploading this . I have to a dance for black history to this song and this is the only one that is perfect . I have been looking and looking for a version like this and here it shows up . thank you soooo sooo much .
I'm uncertain of the name of their original project, however, the advertisement on the clip states that it's from a project called-- Freedom: Songs from the Heart of America.
You're more than welcomed. It's possibly not showing on your computer, but on the clip at :11 an ad for buying the mp3 pops up at the bottom of the picture.
Also, in reference to your comment, I believe that this is the best version of this song that I've ever heard also. I heard another in a movie a few years ago. It was sung during a rally and whomever was on that piano, was on fire. I passed out twice! Lol!
My cousin turned me on to Sweet Honey in the Rock when I was about 10 y/o. There is no group like them! I love "No More Auction Block" and "Can't Hide Sinner".
I love Dr.Reagan's voice she's retired form the group now. I saw a special on this group a few years ago, when they were looking for the replacement of Dr.Reagon and they sung In the upper room and I almost threw something into the tv! Thanks for posting this!
The great thing about Dr. King was that he was for the equality and rights of everyone, not just his own race.
