  • this song cuts so deep and personal to me...i share it with ppl i feel close to and want them to hear it

  • early ford econoline at the begining of the song

  • stop being so damn beautiful, you talented lady u_ú

  • guyss... she's back. 5 shows in the USA. DC 3/21 i'll be there

  • 15 years ago women could sing in a video without stripping. :)

  • @gothicmoonangel89 So can women today, for example, Adele isn't naked in any of her videos :)

  • @thevenusunderground I was referring to women in general in the music industry. Adele is just an exception, most of female singers today prefer to show some skin in order to get fans. Which is sad, isn't it? :)

  • Michael Bruno told me to check this out (:

  • Fiona Apple...where music meets poetry...no gimmicks, just raw and pure emotion put into articulated and melodic sentences

  • She looks so hot. I love she.

  • come on guys, just enjoy Fiona's amazing music. I really hope she comes back. We miss you Fiona Apple!

  • We're an independent label trying to make it in this game and the best way to do that is by being more known on youtube. One of the ways we stand out is we help unsigned artists get more fans by uploading their songs for a new fan base

You can change our future with one simple click.

Please thumbs up so other people can see this and check out our channel and comment with feedback if you like, also if you think we could improve.

If you like check the other artists we have over 100 vids up!

    Cheers!

  • pure poetry :)

  • DEFINITELY music you can feel, I love music with feeling that touches the heart, back when music had meaning this is it

  • I miss this kind of pop music! It has such emotion...it can hit you. Now, it's seemingly all propaganda.

  • im here bc of the voice lol

  • This video have only 1,358551 and Britney's or gaga videos have more than 100millions?

    Are You Kidding Me?

  • I listen to mostly rap and metal. Fiona rocks just as hard as Ozzy or 2pac. She kicks ass.

  • Back then, we had wonderful singers and songwriters like Fiona Apple and Jewel. Now, we have people like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, etc. (not bad, but not great). Music, true music, is going down the drain.

  • @terrfomp92 I'd add Alanis, Tori, Sheryl and Sarah to that list. Messengers from G.O.D.

  • @terrfomp92 Uh...Regina Spektor came out in 2004. Trust me "true music" is still being made, you just have to know where to look. That means looking past the top 40!

  • @ThinkTink606432 I never said it left. I too know where to find "true music". Unfortunately, a majority of music today is computerized, autotuned noise.

  • @terrfomp92 No it isn't. If your just paying attention to what's in the top 40 or even what's really "popular", then yes that's what you'll find. But there are a WHOLE lot more artist that still use actual instruments. Or some like Imogen Heap who skillfully have "computerized" beats over great instrumentals. I hate it when people look at what the media barfs out at them and believe that's what all music sounds like. Actually thanks to the internet, music is more diverse then ever.

  • @terrfomp92 (Continued) That is exactly why corporate america is against the internet. For the past century (maybe longer then that) record companies have been in complete control of how media was viewed my the world. They could push something on us and almost create hits. But thanks to the internet, an artist has free expression and can become popular without any major label backing. IE: April Smith and the Great Picture Show. So again, Today's music isn't any worse then it was before.

  • @ThinkTink606432 Please, you don't have to go off on too much of a tangent. Perhaps I didn't word my words correctly. No, I don't like the Top 40 and, like you, I prefer music that uses actual instruments. That's why I still listen to Hanson, for God's sake. And yes, the internet, especially Youtube, has given many artists a chance to showcase their music. I've had the pleasure of adding some of them as friends. They are a reminder of what music truly is.

  • @terrfomp92 Not trying to be rude, but what else am I supposed to assume from a comment like: "Unfortunately, a majority of music today is computerized, autotuned noise." I didn't meant to go on a tangent and I apologize for that.

  • @ThinkTink606432 That's alright. I should have worded myself better.

  • He is the only one who has never left me or forsaken me, even when i tried in every way to turn my back on him. When Human beings use the word Love a word they know nothing about, its nice to hear but I don't hear the music. When God tells me he Loves me I feel it and see it in everything he does

  • No one glows like Fiona.

  • This is amazing..she's so talented! :)

  • She was only 15 when she wrote and recorded this.. it was on her original demo tape and when it was time to make the album when she was 17 they just added the strings to her demo.

  • I remember the first time I heard this album (15 years ago!!? NOOOOO!!!) and this song ended, and I was like ... "No, is the album over already!? I don't want it to be over!" Great album, great artist ... would that she would return!

  • what a beautiful song

  • I love her music and this song is one of my fav... Hope there is more to come ?

  • 9 years ago I was in a relationship where the person I was with made me feel like less than garbage, worth nothing without him. Just shortly after my 18th birthday I found out I was pregnant, and nine months later I had my daughter Fiona. I named her after Fiona Apple b/c I wanted her to be what I wasn't at the time. Opinionated, strong, her own person. She gave me the strength to leave her dad and be better myself.

  • avinosk(it's really me) god

I hate being me. tears are being drawn back into the abYss

    you should have said yes.

saved you from your ignorance too many times

    river osborne

    baddie outside walking drunk

    shamed and angry with you

    RIP un friend rachael *21

    YW/gd(PP)X#

  • She's so beautiful..

  • shes so amazing i never get tired of listening to her(:

i know "hey check out my cover of this song" is such an annoying comment, but just in case anyone wants to see it, check out my channel! thanks(:

  • A LARGE portion of the song is missing. The lyrics:

"You'll say, Don't fear your dreams, it's easier than it seems

You'll say you'd never let me fall from hopes so high

But never is a promise and you can't afford to lie

You'll never live the life that I live

I'll never live the life that wakes me in the night

You'll never hear the message I give

You'll say it looks as though I might give up this fight "

are all cut from this version! :(

  • This song is so fuckin deep.

  • If the women or girls this days would look up to Fiona instead of Beyonce, Gaga, Kesha.... Well, I'd probably fall in love every corner.

  • @Amatulas The rarity of such people only serves to enhance the joy in finding them. Not that I don't agree with you...just noting the silver lining to the cloud.

  • @Amatulas kesha and gaga suck but dont hate on B!!!!

  • @Amatulas Well i dunno Beyonce is not a songwriter...but she can sing, unlike completely talentless Gaga and Kesha especially

  • I love Fiona!

  • i love you , your voice and the song is beautiful <3

  • i think what gets me is that i don't expect her voice from her body. i love when she comes to an angry lyric and you can hear it in her voice...

  • this might be my favorite song of all time

  • @sTapleEVA totally... keeping coming back to it...

  • this song has stayed with me since the 90s. its so emotional. i love it and sing it when im in the kitchen or upset.

  • This is one of those songs which are impossible to be true

  • @godcanbesohilarious this is one of those lyrics wich have metaphors(thats when you have to think a little to understand)

  • i feel like craying so hardddd :'(

  • i'm pretty sure this song is the definition of beauty. O_o

    it's breathtaking...

  • I'm surprised she doesn't sing in her higher register more often, it sounds really great in my opinion.

  • @DaphneyQuinnn I've heard this song live on youtube and it doesn't really capture the same magic as this version, the studio version. I'm not degrading Fiona Apple's talent but I assume that she's a contralto and her singing range wouldn't be able to maintain that stretch of voice.

  • siren. to stuff one's ears or go insane while falling in love. tie me to the mast and sail close.

  • very underrated singer and songwriter: the most unique voice and way of singing

  • Indescribably amazing. That is all.

  • Isn't sad that people always talk about other "artists" (Gaga, Bieber, Kesha) in the videos of real singers and authentic artists?

  • she is so pretty.

  • @themusicmatterz Lady Gaga is very often compared to Freddy Mercury; they were both excentric performers. Gaga is amazing live and acoustic, if pop isn't your thing. When it comes to her, you have no basis.

However, I cannot defend Kesha, nor Bieber, since they have no talent whatsoever.

  • Lady Gaga is a fad. Much talent, no creativity or taste at all. Overrated and pretencious as fuck

  • @hidalgo699 hope you meant NOT (much talent) because i agree :)

  • @inkedk I like lots of pop, but it is an extremely broad genre. Personally, i think Gaga doesn't have the musical talent to compare her to classics like Freddy Mercury, he wrote some really awesome songs, Gaga's music itself sounds like all the other boring shit clogging the airwaves these days. She has no talent when you compare her to Apple, Mercury, Elliott Smith.. all pop writers in their own way. IMO of course :)

  • the video is brilliant in its simplicity, and it's one cut.

  • video sucks but the song is priceless

  • Things like this make me miss the 90s.

  • This is old music?

  • @lykamothalicka then they dont try hard enough

  • you know, fiona has had other problems beyond eating disorders. is that really the only topic being discussed on every video?

  • WTF

  • The top comment made me throw up a little bit in my mouth. But don't worry I swallowed it back down.

  • @MrElrushbo Even though your comment is a joke, it's disgusting. You must not have compassion for people who went/are going through a hard time. Re-think your comments before you post them.

  • <333 amazing

  • I L O V E u Trevor, & I hope I got one more chance to tell u -_- <3 R.I.P

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sadly yet another song that I can sadly say kinda reminds me of someone!!! :(

  • She is such a heartfelt intelligent writer, and beautiful songstress. So many women can relate to her - a testimony to the strength of her lyrics. I love dance, pop music, but it can't touch the depth of my psyche like Fiona and others like her. MY hats off to all singer/songwriters who have this gift!

  • @Magichappens89 Singer's singer. Songwriter's songwriter. Instrumentalist's instrumentalist. Actor's actor. Poet's poet.

  • @Magichappens89 Your 're comment was well put. Miss Apple is gifted. I Hope she lives long enough to show us more of her talent. Off the subject, but something creeps me out about the look in her eyes because it seems familiar, Like looking at a very old soul who lived past lives and my mind won't stop trying to place it each time I see her picture, which I know sounds ridicules. Now I gave myself a sick headache. I better go lay down. Bye. Ohhh.

  • I struggled with anorexia for a large portion of my life. I commend Fiona for allowing herself to be vulnerable and expressing her feelings despite what the critics may say. Her words spoke volumes to me. When I first heard this song I finally felt like someone understood me. I did turn my life around. I have 2 beautiful children and have worked with ED patients for quite a while with the hope that they too can find a way back. Believe me, I know the struggle, but DON"T GIVE UP

  • Hurry back Fiona.

  • This is the song that made me realize she is one of the best songwriters of all time.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • i'm going to go kill myself now and take a few cute bunnies with me

  • ahhhhh im 15 again listening to this

  • I love how she used to sound really mature in my mind, then years passed and she made more songs. Now that I hear this one, she sounds so young, and still really mature for people in general.

  • wondering where this was filmed.

  • what this song about?

  • @MSJIGGLY2U don't u have ears?

  • @Disposition446 thanks for the insightful input....

  • Love the vampire undertones..or should i say..over the street tones... only vampires can float right?..and so the black coat with red hood is so Dracula!

This song was always beautiful to me...but now its scary !!

  • the music industry today has no depth.. its like turned us humans into this massive heard of sheep following the guidelines set out by them.. this shallow, and way to perfect ideal of what an "artist" like a musician should be, they sing songs writing by other people and change their looks because of other people to me thats no artist.. people like rihanna and bieber ect.. while these people are all beautiful.. even combined they will never be as beautiful as fiona. stay honest to yourself.

  • @Jeenn15 i'm glad some people still realize that. i'm studying music and i promise myself to never just become a "product." i want to write real music to real people.

  • happy birthday, Fiona ♥

  • Just, wow!

  • Great song.

  • so beautiful song!

  • she is so beautiful.

  • Such a powerful song. Touched me where things hurt and hide.

  • @mmapipe I don't understand how you could be so cruel to someone who has dealt with such pain in their life and has had the strength to come out of it. Many people just wallow in their pain and blame the world and even act out and be cruel to perfect strangers on Youtube and might even call them "a fucking pussy emo" to mask the own pain that they feel.

  • What a voice.I just wish she would do something that her voice would be more ???????????.I don't know more of a punch. We all know she has it in her so let it all out.

  • @1grogmonster maybe it's supposed to be more about the lyrics and the feel. but i agree, love when she powers her voice.

  • @mmapipe simple much

  • I forgot how much I loved this song

  • love this song!

  • Fiona..you are perfect.

  • this was the first cd i ever bought. i was 7 haha

  • you'll say you understand, you'll never understand

I'll say I'll never wake up knowing how or why

I don't know what to believe in, you don't know who I am

You'll say I need appeasing when I start to cry

But never is a promise and I'll never need a lie..... it's so true

  • fiona is a bright light for me .

  • Please come back Fiona, miss your views and your voice.

  • I'm sort of annoyed by comments on every music vid these days about how young people should listen to old music, how modern music is so bad etc. First of all; I am young and I listen to this music, and so do many others my age. Second of all: We'll decide for ourselves what we listen to. You can't judge what is good music. When you were young, your parent probably hated your music too, and when we're old, we might hate the music our kids listen to. That's how it goes, so don't judge, thank you

  • @cyprel Couldn't agree more. I'm a man in my forties and I can't understand what my daughter could possibly like about the music she listens to; to me it's just noise, and she feels the same about my music. This is how it should be. As we get older tastes change, tolerance increases, and intellect replaces emotion and the younger generation begins to appreciate the older, although I think Husker Du will always be beyond her and I can't imagine I will ever understanding "Glee".

  • @madmic1967 Your daughter should not watch Glee it is to grown up for teens to much sex to much girl on girl not good for a teenage girl take it from someone you don't know and who had a horrible time expressing myself as a teenage girl.

  • @stacycoop603 oh no we need to protect our kids from knowing what their penises and vaginas are for, or else they ll go crazy and hump everything in sight......... there is so much crap in this world, sex is definitely the first thing you should educate your kids on, not wait until they are 16 and get pregnant......damn MTV

  • @stacycoop603 seriously now? i watched Glee growing up, and it was during a VERY dark time in my life. I came out to my mother and she didnt take it lightly at all. Seeing teenagers on television having problems similar to mine was a godsend. So i'll say to you, as a person who watched Glee as a teen, Glee helped me more then you could ever know. i was lost and confused, and downtrodden by the world. but Glee showed me that life can be good especially for a me, a gay guy.

  • @rainbowrecruiter1992 hahahahah thats a jocke right?

  • @madmic1967 I agree. I'm a person with no particular taste in music. I like this, I listen to Jazz, Pop, Rock and classical music. My older brother only listens to classical music, and my younger brother only listens to heavy metal. That's just how it is - people have different taste in music. There's nothing wrong with it, my older brother is in no way smarter or better or nicer than my younger one. So I don't agree with anyone who claims it is 'bad' to listen to certain kids of music.

  • @cyprel I listen to hip-hop, jazz, fuckin metal and everything else and what not, and this song will always be one of my favorites. It's all about the realness, and Fiona Apple is one of the trillest

  • @cyprel I believe you posted this same thing on another song? ... but good point.

  • SO PISSED ABOUT THE PITBULL AD TO START THIS. VEVO IS ALL THINGS CORPORATE SELLOUT/KISS ASS FOR SIGNATURES ON X'S

  • This song sums up just about everything.

  • +100!

  • if only youngsters these days would listen too this words of wisdom

hipsters seem to have it all apparently but they tend to leave the main thing out the MUSIC

  • This song is just perfect in every way.

  • :) Smiley Face Truck, he wants everyone to cheer up even though this music has made you a little emotional!

  • bad

  • just woke up after playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl for 17 hours straight !!!

  • Why didn't I write this song? it's my life, in song. How can a complete stranger KNOW?

  • You underestimate my depth. You are the one who shines, but I have a silent understanding. I have empathy, you have your outspoken ways. I love tyou, but sometimes....I don't know what to believe in...you don't know who I am.

Sad thing is, you're not the first person I feel this way about. It's just me and me.

  • Don't worry Fiona...we can understand.

  • Perfect

  • this was the anthem to my anorexia/bulimia as a 16-19 y.o, it really spoke to me in a dark place... but also helped me to come out of that same place and recover. Now 28, married and have an 8 month old daughter, may she never experience the same pain. This song is haunting and beautiful to me in so many ways - for anyone else in the same place, have hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel xx

  • @82kdawson Can very much relate to everything you wrote. ((hugs))

  • @82kdawson that's very brave of you to admit. You have a lot of strength.

  • @82kdawson

    Just eat something...

  • @82kdawson You should smoke some herb it's healing
