The blades are acting as a propeller driven by the wheels when the vehicle is moving faster than the wind. Once the chain breaks the blades are acting as a windmill & spin in the opposite direction .
Well done to the team for getting the cart to go faster than the wind. I would have argued for hours that this was impossible & would have wrongly assumed the blades were intended to drive the wheels.

Sorry to add to the endless verbage on this but
a) I suspect as it starts to move the wheels turn the prop or is it the other way round?
b) Where can I find a definitive explanation of how it works?
