Good question - Anglicanism is a tradition within Christianity of churches connected to the Church of England - most Episcopal churches in the United States would consider themselves Anglican.
@321txm When Catherine of Aragon, wife of King Henry VIII of England failed to produce a male heir for the throne of the English king, Henry VIII asked for a divorce from the pope in Rome. The pose refused to give a divorce. In retaliation, Henry VIII established a separate Christian Church which he called Anglican, meaning, the church of England.
Check the range of the bassoon and you'll see that it couldn't possibly play the flute part - that's why we have both - both rock - both are beautiful in their respective ways.
@joenwayne Lol - I'm sure it's transposable... perhaps not ideal for the choir though ;-) lol... in my head I can just hear the bassoon playing those gorgeous underlying and complementary patterns that the flute has; and my bias enjoys bassoon more ;-)
I originally played the viola and as you'll notice I'm a novice Bassoonist too... but I have a secret love for neglected instruments. Here in the UK there are so few Bassoonists though it seems like in the USA they are considerably more common
this is so beautiful! i was just chosen to be in titan trebel, the top womens honors choir in my entire high school. about the second or third day into the class our choir director chose this piece to practice. we sound so absolutely beautiful. the only other time ive been in a choir so serious and skilled was in all county or district. im so glad you posted this so now i can show all my friends the types of beautiful music that my voice is lucky enough to be a part of! =)
I am noticing everyone is overlooking the wonderful bassoonist! As a fellow bassoonist I must say: Wendy's tone is gorgeous and centered, a very beautiful sound that blends in and adds great texture.
@cellofellow1223 Thank you for viewing and your very kind and perceptive comments. I completely agree with you about Wendy's playing. I will pass your comments along to her.
The exact version I sang first session ever within a chorus...... through out our rehearsals the song appealed to me but never to the extent I am about to mention. Prior to the chorus, I've never had musical exposer(s) atleast, of this kind. Night of our Choir Concert...... during our performance of "Ave Maria" the music hit me and I began tearing, then crying, it was something new to me...... This truly is a Beautiful Piece!!!!!!!
Hey, you are really good. I never thought a choir could bring out the beauty of one of my favourite pieces. Very very nicely done. Flute piano and blending of male and female, what a sound. Thank you from NY
Beautiful. Greetings from Florida where the best choirs around are from High Schools, and are little kids. I love the instrument choice to go with singers. It's not very often you get to here a bassoonist play as lovely as that, and with a choir. It makes me want to keep playing, and try to find someone to sing while I play.
you have an excellent choir. i am from jersey city (St. John the Baptist R.C. church choir and St. Aedan R.C. Church).i am an admirer of your work and your choice of music.. good choirs are rare here in the northern part of NJ. i believe i also viewed one of your other videos..a soloist sang durufle's pie jesu..very lovely. keep posting. i'm almost convinced to ask my husband if we can relocate to morristown! lol.
Wow, Wayne! This is so beautiful, stirring, and inspiring. My heart was truly touched. Your taste in music, your direction, and use of color is remarkable. I bet working with such a talented choir and group of musicians must be rewarding and enjoyable.
Just for accuracy I would like to mention this work is really by Vladimir Vavilov, composed around 1970. He published it anonymous, and it was fasley attributed to Caccini.
Bravi! Well balanced choir and beautiful solo play by the flute and bassoon players. What can I say about your wonderful pianist. He certainly complements that gorgeous instrument! Thank you for posting & God Bless you and your parish!
Actually, the music itself is not Anglican, but Anglicans (and Episcopalians) do have a distinctive choral sound. Not being a musician myself, I have a hard time articulating it but in my experience Anglican choirs tend to favor a purer tone with more restrained vibrato to the extent that even choirs of men and women still have a kind of boys choir quality. Catholic choirs tend to be less restrained which sometimes can make liturgical music a bit sentimental.
I love this arrangement of "Ave Maria"! Do you have any information on where I can buy the score to this piece?

The Anglican style of church music is in the church too!
The Anglican Use, and more of the newer hymnals have alot of Anglican hymns, because most of them are compatible with church teachings!
