They weren't a Depeche Mode clone at the time, lots of bands sounded like that back then. Synthpop was really big in the early-mid '80s.

People think of it as a "Depeche Mode" sound today because DM was the most successful and influential synthpop band. DM didn't invent synthpop, though, they were just really good at it.

One of the songs that happily haunts me from my childhood! BTW, this Hitparade version has the best audio of any version of this song up on YT. I love the drummer's outfit. It looks more 1960 than 1987. I am looking in my thrift store for a orange shirt and a loose brown jacket like that. Thanks!

Because here in the US the majority don't want electronic music. They'd raher have mind numbing basslines and BS lyrics with no credible REAL talent. California is the only place left in the US for electronic. It's still huge in Germany, Russia, Europe. beleive me I wish it wasn't like that. I'm always trying to find "new" electronic bands in YT to buy their CD's because there is nothing else out there. Its all c-RAP
