It's currently on hold because Microsoft, Universal, and Fox issues agreeing over finances. However, they had a lot of the props made, so the director decided to do this instead of just sit around and rot.

If you Compare Halo Arms Race ( this video) and Halo Combat the next video trailer you will find the Combat movie is MUCH better. awesome graphics of the Banshees and the weird thing is that every video clip for the movie they have ODST soilders, not marines like in the game. not that im complaining the helljumpers are kooler and better.

You hit the nail on the head Saxin1. It is two years until the movie will be out. Additionally, this isn't even an advertisement for the movie. It is an advertisement for Halo 3, and Blomkamp therefore has a little more wiggle room when it comes to things not quite being perfect or in line with Halo cannon. It's just an advertisement, so he's under no pressure from Bungie or Microsoft to make every rivet on a pelican true to what it would be in the Halo universe.

I'm a huge halo fan, however I find confusing that a decent director and 3D animator such as Neill (check out his short films) chose to include a 70's/80's "star wars" type laser explosion at the end, when the rest of it was topend 3D animation?! Also the whole old school 80's computer screen type sequence left a bit to be desired. ala Terminator 1. However in saying all that, this is circa 2 years before the movie will be out, and is a good insight as to what we're possibly in for.

The game strived to tailor graphics to be as realistic as possible, it's only logical to make the movie live-action. Now, it's what this is actually a trailor for that makes me wonder. Halos reputation? The games have turgid direction and hamfisted messes of stories. The bit at the end was the best bit, it encapsulates the humour perfectly, of blind "f-off" courage and determination in the face of stupidly large odds. Its what halos all about.
