Don't get me wrong, they are fantastic but in this excerpt they are not together at times. In the other videos they were perfect so I'm just wondering why. It's almost like they are another group. Must be a fluke.
Probably minimal rehearsal. It's a fact of life at this extreme level of musicianship. You don't have time to cover everything. I wonder how much music this same section was working on around the same time. Sometimes things end up neglected.
@spoondawg27 My guess is someone just rushed or dragged just out of carelessness, not from minimal rehearsal time. They were trained to play with close to no rehearsals.
@babtrombone This piece is one of the few exceptions - it won't let me link, but search for "HOLST PLANETS ; Mars ~ War '09 (1/7)" to see and hear the "tenor tuba in Bb" (read: euphonium), with its most prominent solo starting at 2:10.
And really, bass trumpets are just as rare... maybe even more so, unless you're an opera orchestra that does a lot of Wagner.
Oh I know... I'm a euphonium player, and an orchestral conductor... But Planets has a "Tenor Tuba" part, which is played on the euphonium. This is a big euphonium excerpt.

An Orchestra symphoney never has a euphonium in orchestral parts, rarely it does.
