Ugh - I get so annoyed with people constantly bothering aqualung to do sequel reviews of games he has just reviewed. This is most prevalent on his Mega Man reviews. He uploads MM 3, "hey aqualung, can u review MM 4?", he does MM 4, "hey aqualung, can u review MM 5?", he does MM 5, "hey aqualung can u cure cancer?", he cures cancer, "hey aqualung can you cure my obesity?', he puts u on a fuckin' diet, "hey aqualung, can you cure my hemorhoids?" He snaps and sticks  a fork up your smelly ASSHOLE!

Now this is my SHIT!! I was a Genesis fanboy back in the 90's, and man I spent countless years of my youth playing the life out of this game. I never found the sequels to match up to the charm this game had. One minor note though, you forgot to mention you can speed up or slow down the turning of the mazes in the Special Zones by coming into contact with either the Up or Down bumpers. You obviously want to avoid the Up bumpers so you can navigate the mazes more efficiently. ; ) - helluva review!

This is a fantastic game. However, nobody buy the ipod version of it. The controls are slippery, you die when you land in spikes WHILE you're using invincibility(unlike the original version), and there are no continues when you lose all your lives, meaning you have to start the whole game all over again. The worst 5 bucks I ever spent.

You should have mentioned how at the end of Labyrinth Zone Act 3 when the 3 corks rise up from the water, if you walk back to the checkpoint and sit there, the water will come back down if you fall off.

Some versions of the game give you recovery on spikes. If I recall... if you have Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic 1 on there allows recovery on the spikes.

However... being a Genesis game, I honestly don't know if all versions have the Spike bug fixed, so I can't really say much. Maybe it was fixed before being ported over from the Genesis?

I have to give Sonic credit for going through six zones, all of them containing death traps that he has to avoid and robots that he must crush.

And Sonic does that by using his ENTIRE body?!? That makes Mario's headsmashing seem comfortable!

Another great review Ken. The audio is out of sync in spots. Not a big deal, but I thought I'd point it out. The speed and the multilayered soundtrack of the game makes it a little more difficult to keep it in sync, I'm sure.

@timsalmons1982 I screen captured each act on separate files (not counting odds and ends afterwards). For some reason, some of them were a bit out of sync with the audio. I was too lazy to go back and re-record it, as it really only affected a couple spots so I didn't think it was a big deal. If it were off throughout the entire video, that would have been different.

Just curious, what version of Sonic the Hedgehog did you use? Did you play it on the Genesis, or did you use a compilation like Sonic Mega Collection? I'm only wondering because the ending sign (when you complete a stage) makes a weird fuzzy sound when you spin it. Either way, it was a great walkthough, you went into great detail, which I admire.

2 issues- the spike thing is actually a programming glitch

-the speed, in this game was actually slowed down because in test periods it gave people a slight case of nausea (and that's why people think of sonic as being a bad ass- he'll make you puke)

For example, my other account doesn't have the 15 minute limit, but it has over 200 videos. This account does have the limit, but only 45 videos. I theorize every account starts with the 15 minute limit, and as a user contributes to the community, the limit gets lifted. However, I can't say for sure.

In all honesty, Super Mario World > Sonic the Hedgehog because it has a map screen stage select, alternate paths, and a save function, making more like modern games. BRING IT ON, FLAMERS! Ehh, it's not necessarily a bad game, but the Marble Zone, platforming sections of the Spring Yard Zone, underwater sections and the palette-swapped final zone bring the game down somewhat for me. The sequels were much better.

Hey, always rremmeber this Aqualung, When you hit a springboard or are going on a loop-de-loop, always hold DOWN for MUCH faster speed instead of holding the direction you are running. This is very effective and makes an already fast game even faster!!
