This one implies more that the mother was already dead from the ship wreckI think considering that we were treated to the death of the baby Gorilla [TT_TT] that having this too would have been more depressing than needed. Not to mention it was already scary with the ending. I never noticed Clayton's corpse hanging in the trees till Fanfiction Critics' top 11 Death villain's death video showed me...
its kinda wird, when i was a kid i really didnt mind , acctualy i didnt notice mistakes and funny thing that can be better done.but now i can and it fucking hlarous
I'm almost inclined to say the actual opening is more disturbing considering you can see Tarzan's parents dead bodies laying in the corner. Eh, every Disney movie is somewhat scary. Never bothered me as a kid! :)
If I saw this as a child, I would be scared to dealth! Oh my Lord, I never knew how dark Disney could be. ( Even though it's closer to the book. ) I like the one they chose, much more Family friendly.
This opening is definitely more book based, as Tarzan's father is attacked by a wild animal and is killed (however it's actually Kerchak in the book). But I agree, too violent for the movie. I mean, there's a reason not to go scene by scene from the book.
I'm not sure whether I would have freaked out at this or not. This doesn't seem all that worse than the Clayton death scene (They really must not've cared about kids as much, to have so much nightmare fuel in the movie) I remember it being intense, but I wasn't traumatized by it.
I wouldnt say the final one is better but I think its more appropiate for a younger audience...This version is kinda like a slap in the face cus its starts off all sweet and simple but Disney flips the script when they bring in Sabor who kills off Tarzan's dad....in front of Tarzan, too. I think its cool how Tarzan avenges his parents death without even knowing it. I wouldve been fine with either version...but this one could tramautize a little one.
O.O.........The cinematography and the general direction of this is fantastic, but I agree it wouldn't have sit well with the kids, especially if you plunged the theater into darkness like that.
Thank God they didn't use this opening! I was only 9 at the time this movie came out and if I saw this opening instead of the awesome Phil Collins one I would've been scarred for life. .___.
I honestly find it hard to believe that disney would consider starting a film like this with the flying limbs and everything. I'm happy they got rid of this.
O.O holy crud...I could never have watched Tarzan again had this been the original version lol It would've scared me senseless.
I like the beginning all the way up to when the candle goes out because it gives such a sad and silent melancholy feel to the background story and then Sabor ruins the moment >:(
My God, had that been the opening of the film, I would have been screaming the cinema down (I was 6 when this came out, and quite easily scared). "Tarzan" is a scary enough film as it is, probably amongst the darkest of all Disney animations.

i see why they didn't use it but it certainly would have been cool if they atleast finished the scene. this would have scared me badly if they had used this when i was little. i do think the orginal scene IS better but this one is more dramatic.
It was violent how Sabor grab Tarzan's father's body. Everyone knows whats going to happen to his body.
The other version is so much better. They introduce you with Phil collins singing, its more action and not as violent. This one scares the living hell out of me!
Lordy, grow a pair. They probably changed the intro because it put too much emphasis on the leopard as the villain even though he dies less than halfway through the movie, not because this is "too scary." This movie ended with a man hanging himself--they didn't shy away from being scary.
That was really dramatic, but so cool! And yet...Disney being Disney is on the side of little squirts -sighs-. Oh well...the beginning they chose to use was still great anyway.
It's a cool beginning, but it's too scary for the kids.
