I want to know what you all think about this-What would have happened had Webber known there were no timeouts left. Michigan was down by 2. Would Webber have driven all the way to the hoop by himself or would he have dished it off? If the later had happened, Would Michigan have gone for the tie or for the win with a three-pointer?
I have heard that Michigan coach Steve Fisher did indeed mention in the timeout a few minutes earlier that they didn't have any timeouts left. Maybe he didn't make it clear enough, but he definitely mentioned it. In fact, I heard that he mentioned it at the beginning and at the end.
If you watch Webber a second or two after getting the rebound, he appears to think about calling a timeout. The refs saw him do this, and, knowing that Michigan was out of timeouts, felt that they would give him a break. Webber then walked, but by then, the refs backs were turned.
Lay off CWebb, this is waay in the past. Either way they were DOWN by 2. Michigan wouldnt even have been there without Webber. Webber was awesome in college, was awesome in the NBA until his knee injury. Sure he's slowed down now, but I still love him. CWebb my fave for life.
Chris Webber WAS a great player in college, at Golden State and at Sacremento before his knee injury. He should have retired after his knee injury from a basketball standpoint. But from a money standpoint, he should play as long as anyone keeps paying him!!
that was clearly not a traveling because if it was a traveling the referee would call it because he was face to face...traveling really is one of the hardest things to call in basketball game...just like the so called "pro hops" that is clearly a travel but they just let it go because it was invented as a crossover
He travelled anyway...but for someone to do as much woofing as he did back then, you can't make such a silly mistake. He was a great GREAT player in college but also a sore loser. I didn't feel sorry for him at all. I wouldn't have called him a worthless failure but as correctly stated. He's never won anything
HEELS! We have a lot of mojo in that stadium from the 82 poor pass by G'Town's Brown, and then Webber in this game. I would have been so pissed if they had scored after the missed traveling call. Heels are going all the way again this upcoming season!
I feel sorry for Webber. I think this mistake made him a better player in the NBA though. With the Kings he was very calmed and collected in the playoffs.
how did that ref miss the walk?! I'm a Webber fan AND a sixers fan and even that pisses me off. I'm glad he was even stupider and called the time out. It almost looked like the ref sort of looked away when he walked, but it's blurry and i can't tell. It also looks like the other ref was looking at him.
Just last season, Webber did the same thing during a sixers game. It wasn't as important obviously, Webber had himself a good laugh from that one.
That play stands as the true legacy of the fab five.

If you look really closely, he didn't travel. He used his right to pivot and dribbled slightly before he started to step with his left.

He didn't dribble the ball, watch his feet in the beginning. It's a violation of the rules and a turnover which the ref missed.
