Good video dude. Addressed the unsolved mystery of one of my 1200's weird tone arm behavior. Couldn't find a video addressing this until I came across this vid. All the other vids i came across were more vague in detail, and only addressed more common problems, which I already know how to fix. Info will be very helpful in me deciding what I should do about my tone arm issues.
Good drawings. Incompetent mechanicals. This guy is trying, but he has no idea how to repair ball bearing systems. For example, putting any substantial force on the lower bearings with the tonearm twisted to the side is odds-on to damage the lower bearing keeper. (Looks like a washer.) And BTW: making replacement bearing keepers requires thin circular blanks, a drill to match the hole, a punch for centering, and then a Dremel tool and a stone or file to get exact diameter. Not rocket science.
@160610705 -- First penetrating oil, then if needed... heat. Heat is not applied directly. Gently grip with locking pliers -- as light as you can -- then heat pliers moderately with a propane torch. If you are not comfortable with propane, you can start with a hair drier. *** The outer nut is a lock nut. I made a tool specifically for these lock nuts -- a medium size screwdriver with a gap ground out at the center of the blade. (10 seconds with a Dremel....) *** Loosen the lock nut first.
naw, my tonearm isnt shaking at all. its just that the anti-skate has no effect on the tonearm at all. i just want to replace the anti-skate so it works.
@123lott123 -- There is a tiny spring down underneath. There should be, anyway. Check out viperfrank's vids for how to get the TT open safely. The vinylengine web site has the manuals, references.

so if these bearings are out of place, then the anti-skate is messed up?
123lott123 2 years ago
the anti-skate has little to do if your tonearm is shaking
