awesome job man saw the whole thing i still got the nes version still play it , im going to make a contra video real life soon :D thanks to this video
@vhernandez2121 The laser was awesome in the arcade version. The most powerful weapon there, if memory serves correct.Too bad it's usefulness was severely reduced in the NES/FAMICOM port.
Anyway, nice gameplay with the Machine Gun. And thanks for the translations. I could only understand half the story up till now. Hell, i didn't even knew that Gryzor had english subs for the original text (i only had the jap version as a kid).Hats off to the japanese Famicom, it kicked Nes's ass with this port.
Well, you're right until certain point: This is the real name: 魂斗羅. Pronunciated "Kontora" (but the nipons tells it "Contra"), that means something like "Battle spiritual Armor". Very weird, but that name was a little hard to accept in the days of its creation, I don't remember the reason. Anyway, I don't care what name it has,it's very fun to play, more if is with another guy. Oh and thanks for your comment.
Those kanji mean Soul - Big Dipper - Thin cloth. They used em just because it looks cool and if you use the right readings they can be pronounced together like "Contra."
I always understood the Japanese rendering to refer to the bandanas. All a hero needs to be bullet proof is a ripped naked chest and a bandana, right ;)
The Gryzor title was used in the UK for the home computer versions as well, to avoid a mistaken association with the Iran-Contra political scandal.
Awesome game, and you are greeat super player, you can play with any weapon.
Amazing.

I just realized this game (any version other than Probotector) could be considered the original Alien vs. Predator.

Gryzor is not the name of the Japanese version. This name was wrongly given to a translated ROM of the Japanese version.
