They should have sent James and the JB'S to Viet Nam at the time. The war would be over in 8 beats and a scream. Everyone would have started dancing right away. He had what you call "it".
@Mannchild11 He was in Viet Nam in that time... but the soldiers didn't knew him because they've never heard him before... some of them knew him but they hadn't called him SOUL Brother No.1 but SOLD Brother No.1.. that hurt him very much, he once said.
Remember James had just gone on TV the night b4 this and asked that the people stop rioting because DR King was killed the night b4....and they stopped in Boston.
thatz also when the FBI started to watch JB. anyone who could stop a riot could start a riot. they got him on "payola" charges and took his radio stations from him.
A genius.......been there to watch him literally suck al lthe energy out of the entire room and then use it to blow the audience out of their minds......right on ! James Brown
The man was UNREAL !!! I saw him back in 1968 or 1970 he brought the HOUSE DOWN !!! When I saw James he was on stage for two hours !!! PURE ENERGY... Question who/whom was a better dancer,he ,Jackie Wilson or MJ ???
@motownfan5 You are fortunate have witnessed such talent in person. Unfortunately ive been born into an era of so-called entertainers who couldn't even hold a candle to JB. As for your question, all three were amazing dancers but id have to say 3.Jackie 2.Michael 1.James because tended to sing more than he danced and Mj learned from Jb, who was an absolute master.
@jdmoonwalker12 Thanks for your answer,of course there will be debates forever :)
This video is GREAT I'm at work and want to get and try a Camel Walk which is what us "old school" folks called it back in day...now its the "Moon Walk " :) One thing The James Brown band was cooking back then. No one was in their seats try the aisles ...it was party time !!
@jdmoonwalker12 You're right Jackie, JB & MJ were real entertainers. I mean they could put on a show. The Temptations also becuase they were known for dancing as well.
@jdmoonwalker12 Unfortunately we don't have any footage of Jackie Wilson from his concerts in the chitlin circuit, which were legendary. The stuff he did when he performed on TV was nothing like his shows. Those who saw him in his natural environment still regard him as the best they ever saw. MJ was fortunate to see Jackie from the wings at venues like the Apollo and the Regal theatre in Chicago. Berry Gordy said that Jackie Wilson was the bench mark for every artist he signed.
@jdmoonwalker12 But between these three show men, a hoofer who was a member of the Rat Pack and a little man strapped with an electric guitar around his neck, you have all that you could hope to see in a live performance.
@bolder2009 Ah yes , how could i forget the two greats, Sammy Davis Jr. and Jimi Hendrix, the latter of which set the groundwork for pretty much every rocker since.
On the documentary, Leeds said that James was so in tune to his band, that he would fine members for missing a cue or sloppy play or messy outfits...so when he said 'You know I got ya, aight' that was him telling a band member he was fined for missing a cue...but they play so clean, only they knew. When I watch him dance, I think 'he cannot be human'...simply incredible

The drummer has more than a beat! I mean, it would be a big challenge to go against him and this fantastic band! Not to mention the man of the best hour - James Brown!
Like someone wrote- " NO fake rapping! Just pure soul!" The man who did it so great on the floor and showed us real moves and gifted singing ( James Brown.) No one can replace him - that's why i am satisfied! R&B would have been boring without James Brown! The horn section in this video is too much ! I mean , yeah, right on target!
james le plus grand de tous les temps l'extra terreste venu d'un autre monde on ne reverra jamais plus un t'el createur funk on vivra a travers lui pour l'èternitè!!!!!
There was a time when there were no samples, no lip synching, no fake rappers, no puffed up mediocre talents. Just real artists, real musicians, bringing unbridled, raw funky soul. There was a time when "JB" did not mean Justin Bieber. JB will always and forever mean only James Brown.
@Cyril99872 Before J.B. there may have been other, renowned, world class musicians, with names, such as Johannes Brahms, who's initials equated to "J.B." But funk was born on May 3rd, 1933, in Barnwell, South Carolina. and immoralized on December 25th, 2006. Only one person, just one, has a name that is recognized and pronounced world-wide simply as "Jay Bee." That annotation is owned and patented by James Brown. Note: Barnwell, South Carolina is named after John Barnwell. Go figure.
@Buckeyecat2002 James Brown and The Flames were at the top of their game when they performed "there was a time" in '68. I think it's the best musical performance of all time - and I have seen a few. With regards to the tag JB - two other icons in politics and sports come to mind: The great anti-slavery fighter John Brown; and NFL superstar/commentator Jim Brown. We on the progressive side have been blessed with at least 3 great JBs in our lexicon.
This man had SOOOOOOOOO MUCH ENERGY throughout his performances until was just exhilarating to watch. What I wouldn't give for the style of TALENT from such musical artist in today's time. Maybe in the next 5 or 10 or 15 yrs. we'll see this era of TALENT again something that will be memorable b/c in the last 10 yrs. these so-called musical artists are FORGETFUL to me there's nothing memorable about them that is sticking in the minds who knows what real music is and was and supposed to be.
