@little3ndler You're right. But in fact Houdini recommends 4.Nf3 which I think is more positional and still accord with the idea of rapid development and center control (which is what most gambits aim for). That pawn can be recaptured later and maybe Black is gonna go for the mistake of defending it.
Some one Sicilian this on me yesterday and I completely crushed them. However I love playing the Sicilian and can play anything odd as well. I have a PGN file on it though via my monroi.
I see a lot of negative comments here and just wanted to say thank you Kevin, I am so much better at chess from watching these video's. I've learned so much and I appreciate you taking time to display these videos for chess geeks like me.

you idiot......... u think only the white knight is controlling the scener????? you idiot stop talking and show the moves.....u talk too much so please shut ur stinky mouth and explain
shut up then explain. How does one explain without talking. Look if these tutorials are bad for you go do something else or learn from something else.
What to do if after the inital opening where black has taken 2 pawns and you've taken one with the Knight, black suddenly goes to C6 with his queen-side knight? The computer keeps using this move versus me
The toughest lines can be the declined variations because a gambit player usually anticipates that you'll take the pawn. I've played this gambit as white for many years, I enjoy the games but it's a tough win against a strong opponent. You must know your tactics but also, a strong player may "give back" the pawn at an opportune moment and leave you with a busted endgame, so you can't ignore your strategical position. It's win or go home with the Smith-Morra.
ive been using this ever since i watched your video and literally every time i face sicilian on the other side.and had much success with it because of that passive defense of black. thx again Kev.
OK. Instead of playing 4...Nf6 black can play e4, contesting for the centre, followed by Nf6 to defend that pawn, avoiding the pointless move 5...d6 altogether. Black can develop his pieces in unison with white and proceed to have a good game. So forget the Sicilian lines.
well... i´ll DEFINEDLY give this a try! Thanks! I also loved your vid on the slav defence, because i hate playing against the queens gambit even more than playing against sicilian (being a sicilian player myself)! :)
Actually this gambit is named by GM Milan Matulovic in all the Russian literature and in Chess Informant anotations of the games they selected. Since the Informant invented the whole system of ECO codes, I suppose it should the correct.
Awesome, thanks for posting this. I hate playing against the Sicilian Defense, so this should be a big help. What are some other responses you recommend to the Sicilian?
After 1.e4.c5 2.d4.cxd 3.c3.dxc 4.Nxc.e6 I don't like 5.Bc4 because of the line 5...Bb4 when normal development loses to 6.Nf3.Qc7 7.Qd3.b5 to avoid this you have to play stuff like 6.Qb3 but I don't like that. Just thought i'd bring it to your attention cuz u played this move order in your video. I like 5.Nf3 and now if 5...Bb4 6.Qd4
i play the sicillian all the time and people always use this gambit on me and i never knew what it was but it never worked on me anyway. I usually ended up a pawn ahead for the entire game
The idea that Black has opend up with only 4 pawns and white has 3 minor peaces in the action is not good enough for white. If black keeps e6 where it is it is very hard for white to hold the center. Weeknes for black are the c and d file's and the bishop-diagonal e3 a7.
c3xb2 is a terrible move from black. Never accept that one. It gives white a lot of tempo.
@classicmusic05: because Pd6 is pinned (by Rd1) to Qd8. If black fails to move 8....e6-e5, e.g., by playing a7-a6 (covering b5) or 0-0 instead, white can nicely continue with 9. e4-e5, which puts heavy pressure on Nf6 and Pd6. Nxe5 is, of course, impossible, so Nf6 had to move (e.g. to g4). If white then takes 10. exd6 then, after Bxd6, black is already in a big mess, e.g. 11. Nb5 (if black has castled; but even after 8....a6, the Nc3 could go on pressing on d6 with 11. Ne4), with great adv.
i am pretty much a beginner but trying to improve my game and i can tell you that thechesswebsite is the best chess video maker on the net. thank you very much, helps a lot.
i just sent you a message on how to counter the sicilian defense. i did a little search and still came up with one of your videos. i think this looks like ill have a lot of success. ill give it a try.
The last line : Isn't it inferior to the danish because of the e3 possibility (basically blunting alot of your bishops firepower wich is the main point of the danish/variant)
the Smith Morra is a great opening, but you better know the lines against a stronger player. The main lines are pretty well known these days so make sure you know about a few of the traps white can fall into.
thank you very much for this gambit helped me defeat the sicilian. i lost to it before i watched this. keep posting those gambits i have found that i am an aggressive player^^
i too like the e5 opening and have seen the sicilian a lot. so this is an excellent lesson. thanks a lot, of all the chess videos i think yours are easily the best, keep up the good work.
This video doesn't mention black's best option (in my opinion of course) against the Smith-Morra: 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cd4 3.c3 dc3 4. Nc3 Nc6 5.Bc4 d6 6.Nf3 a6! . This line nearly refutes the gambit.
The idea is to keep open the option of Bg4 for black (which is blocked after the passive e6) while preparing to play 7. ... Nf6.
(Notice that 6. ... Nf6 loses to 7. e5!)
If White wants to play aggressive against the sicilian there is no good alternative to the mainline (open) sicilians
Thanks for this video. If I may make a recommendation, you said "from here" too many times. I hope that I'm not hurting your feelings. Thx for the vid.
@CollinGoldman to be honest i have not. Looks like black would give up not only the material advantage but concede the middle to white as well. While it's not horrible, I think black should take the pawn on c3 first and then play g6 if he wanted to.
@thechesswebsite Anyone who plays at a 1500 level or higher knows better than to take the pawn. If you put this opening into a database, such as chesslab.com, you'll see that black wins 45% of the time after declining to take the c3 pawn, and g6, Nf6, and best of all 3...d3! are some of the moves black has to come back in the game.
