  • cool

  • Oh man i know how you feel Kevin. i hate the sicilian defense played against me. I usually lose because i am so frustrated about it .

  • what about the variation when white eventually takes black's queen

  • @TheChessFreaky I think you mispelled 'boss'

  • kevin like to suck big dick and is gay, plz dont say that abouthats really mean

  • nice vid :)

just want to ask you something about 7:19 why does the queen take instead of bishop or is it just your personal preference?

  • @little3ndler You're right. But in fact Houdini recommends 4.Nf3 which I think is more positional and still accord with the idea of rapid development and center control (which is what most gambits aim for). That pawn can be recaptured later and maybe Black is gonna go for the mistake of defending it.

  • love the way you describe openings. don't give us book lines, give us goals and objectives. brilliant teaching for fluid on-board play.

  • But how do we play against it

  • @TheTiggerxman

Some one Sicilian this on me yesterday and I completely crushed them. However I love playing the Sicilian and can play anything odd as well. I have a PGN file on it though via my monroi.

  • Thanks Kevin!

  • I see a lot of negative comments here and just wanted to say thank you Kevin, I am so much better at chess from watching these video's. I've learned so much and I appreciate you taking time to display these videos for chess geeks like me.

  • nice move for white

  • @TheChessFreaky booooooooooooooo, kevin is boss

  • @TheChessFreaky "shut ur stinky mouth and explain" and who are you calling an idiot?

  • @Mondrae205 i am calling the chess website's kevin...he talks too much and does not explain properly

  • @TheChessFreaky

shut up then explain. How does one explain without talking. Look if these tutorials are bad for you go do something else or learn from something else.

  • i played that as white several times, and loved it, but came against it as black in a blitz, and had no response...

  • this looks like the danish gambit, only black has two centerpawns now.

  • I tried to play this and my opponent played a5 after he accepted gambit

  • Can this transpose into a Danish Gambit?

  • @Grondorn Sorry, didn't watch the end :)

  • What to do if after the inital opening where black has taken 2 pawns and you've taken one with the Knight, black suddenly goes to C6 with his queen-side knight? The computer keeps using this move versus me

  • The toughest lines can be the declined variations because a gambit player usually anticipates that you'll take the pawn. I've played this gambit as white for many years, I enjoy the games but it's a tough win against a strong opponent. You must know your tactics but also, a strong player may "give back" the pawn at an opportune moment and leave you with a busted endgame, so you can't ignore your strategical position. It's win or go home with the Smith-Morra.

  • ive been using this ever since i watched your video and literally every time i face sicilian on the other side.and had much success with it because of that passive defense of black. thx again Kev.

  • What if they take the first pawn but not the second?

  • All hail the Smith Morra Gambit

  • OK. Instead of playing 4...Nf6 black can play e4, contesting for the centre, followed by Nf6 to defend that pawn, avoiding the pointless move 5...d6 altogether. Black can develop his pieces in unison with white and proceed to have a good game. So forget the Sicilian lines.

  • bishop b5 pinning the knight.

  • @2:56,

Why does everyone recommend moving the knight here as opposed to moving the bishop to d3?

  • This is absolutley my favourite gambit!

  • Nice video! In my opinion, the best variation for black is one of the declined variations...

    1. e4 c5

    2. d4 cxd5

    3. c3 Nf6

  • well... i´ll DEFINEDLY give this a try! Thanks! I also loved your vid on the slav defence, because i hate playing against the queens gambit even more than playing against sicilian (being a sicilian player myself)! :)

  • i leked!

  • I play the siclion defence quite often and I play against the smith mora gambit frequently, is there any way to play against the smith mora gambit ?

  • What about 1, e4 c5 2, d4 e6?

  • Actually this gambit is named by GM Milan Matulovic in all the Russian literature and in Chess Informant anotations of the games they selected. Since the Informant invented the whole system of ECO codes, I suppose it should the correct.

    Great review , of course:))))

  • Is it called the Smith-Morra Gambit or Morra-Smith Gambit?

  • @HolyHolcomb Smith-Morra Gambit

  • The danish gambit idea in the end is just fine, after Nc3 after e6 you still control d5

  • That Danish Gambit Idea in the end which you showed is totally unplayable e6 counters it and your bishops just cant do a thing

  • that's pretty cool

  • You might have said "at the same time" 15 times.

  • @yetdeeplyinept no he didn't please calm down

  • g6, kings gambit is some what iffy for black but I have seen very good lines for the black bishop

  • Awesome, thanks for posting this. I hate playing against the Sicilian Defense, so this should be a big help. What are some other responses you recommend to the Sicilian?

  • can any1 tell me a good free online chess game??

  • @cvetko5 chess.com

  • can any1 tell me a good free online chess game?? pls

  • @cvetko5 hello

  • After 1.e4.c5 2.d4.cxd 3.c3.dxc 4.Nxc.e6 I don't like 5.Bc4 because of the line 5...Bb4 when normal development loses to 6.Nf3.Qc7 7.Qd3.b5 to avoid this you have to play stuff like 6.Qb3 but I don't like that. Just thought i'd bring it to your attention cuz u played this move order in your video. I like 5.Nf3 and now if 5...Bb4 6.Qd4

  • If 4. ...d3, why Qxd3 instead of Bxd3? Wouldn't that get white closer to castling?

  • 6:30 is the goring gambit. And its awesome. won all my 4 games with it. 3 with in 20 moves

  • i play the sicillian all the time and people always use this gambit on me and i never knew what it was but it never worked on me anyway. I usually ended up a pawn ahead for the entire game

  • The idea that Black has opend up with only 4 pawns and white has 3 minor peaces in the action is not good enough for white. If black keeps e6 where it is it is very hard for white to hold the center. Weeknes for black are the c and d file's and the bishop-diagonal e3 a7.

c3xb2 is a terrible move from black. Never accept that one. It gives white a lot of tempo.

  • Thanks for all these chess videos. They are a great help and are appreciated.

  • its good and obvious i went to school wih mora he is good but weak player he was only in high school he had promise but stopped

  • that is the whole thing is to get developed and have yourself opened

  • lol its aggressive grew up with this guy but its weak enough to beat just dont take

  • I've won with Black against the Smith-Morra Gambit, though my opponent played the opening differently.

  • shouldn't you take it with your white bishop during d3 declined?

  • at 3:50 why is black moving the same pawn twice? what's so good about 9...e5 in that position?

  • @classicmusic05: because Pd6 is pinned (by Rd1) to Qd8. If black fails to move 8....e6-e5, e.g., by playing a7-a6 (covering b5) or 0-0 instead, white can nicely continue with 9. e4-e5, which puts heavy pressure on Nf6 and Pd6. Nxe5 is, of course, impossible, so Nf6 had to move (e.g. to g4). If white then takes 10. exd6 then, after Bxd6, black is already in a big mess, e.g. 11. Nb5 (if black has castled; but even after 8....a6, the Nc3 could go on pressing on d6 with 11. Ne4), with great adv.

  • @scionescire yeah

  • i am pretty much a beginner but trying to improve my game and i can tell you that thechesswebsite is the best chess video maker on the net. thank you very much, helps a lot.

  • have you tried the king's gambit? I know, it seems very risky and dead, but if you really study it, its a very usefull gambit

  • i just sent you a message on how to counter the sicilian defense. i did a little search and still came up with one of your videos. i think this looks like ill have a lot of success. ill give it a try.

  • nice video !

  • The last line : Isn't it inferior to the danish because of the e3 possibility (basically blunting alot of your bishops firepower wich is the main point of the danish/variant)

  • the Smith Morra is a great opening, but you better know the lines against a stronger player. The main lines are pretty well known these days so make sure you know about a few of the traps white can fall into.

  • @quickturtle i like to watch porn, what about you?

  • Hey man, just love your vids, keep posting, i'm form brazil and already learn a lot with you, improve my chess playng 100% thanks

  • 3 ..... d6 4. cxd4 transposes into the alapin. Seems like a simple way to get into ordinary sicilian as black, amirite?

  • thank you very much for this gambit helped me defeat the sicilian. i lost to it before i watched this. keep posting those gambits i have found that i am an aggressive player^^

  • I can only say this:Nice,Very good opening! Really for aggressive players is very nice. Thanks for posting.

  • The Chicago Defence...thanks for that tip. Great video!

  • instead of b5 pon go to d5

  • i too like the e5 opening and have seen the sicilian a lot. so this is an excellent lesson. thanks a lot, of all the chess videos i think yours are easily the best, keep up the good work.

  • A small question: In the last version with the second, the refused conter-pawn (..d3), isn't it more valid to take with Bxd3?

  • This video doesn't mention black's best option (in my opinion of course) against the Smith-Morra: 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cd4 3.c3 dc3 4. Nc3 Nc6 5.Bc4 d6 6.Nf3 a6! . This line nearly refutes the gambit.

The idea is to keep open the option of Bg4 for black (which is blocked after the passive e6) while preparing to play 7. ... Nf6.

    (Notice that 6. ... Nf6 loses to 7. e5!)

If White wants to play aggressive against the sicilian there is no good alternative to the mainline (open) sicilians

  • wow my favorite chess opening!!! more powers!!

    post more videos about chess!!!

  • what if black decline the gambit and play queen to c7 after white play pawn from d2 to d4.

  • I've always hated players who play this gambit but I think I'm going to give it a try - seems like its perfect for my style.

  • thank s for ur nice videos kevin

  • Thanks for this video. If I may make a recommendation, you said "from here" too many times. I hope that I'm not hurting your feelings. Thx for the vid.

  • Have you taken into consideration 3... g6??

Love the videos, please keep posting

  • @CollinGoldman to be honest i have not. Looks like black would give up not only the material advantage but concede the middle to white as well. While it's not horrible, I think black should take the pawn on c3 first and then play g6 if he wanted to.

  • 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 g6... What would you do as white here?

  • @CollinGoldman 4.cxd4 d5 5.e5 is a slight advantage for White. I think that 3...Nf6 is Black's best move against Morra

  • @thechesswebsite Anyone who plays at a 1500 level or higher knows better than to take the pawn. If you put this opening into a database, such as chesslab.com, you'll see that black wins 45% of the time after declining to take the c3 pawn, and g6, Nf6, and best of all 3...d3! are some of the moves black has to come back in the game.

  • This is one of my favorite defense, nice video although you didnt talk about the traps as such that are involved in this defense.

  • nice video kevin :) thanks and cheers!

  • Can't wait to try this on my gf! Thanks again kevin!

  • I hate playing against the sicilian defense.

    Great video!!

  • Nice piece of work .... can you please tell me the win rate for White with Smith Morra Gambit... looks to be like White needs to be play very aggressive to make use of positional advantage as you have suggested ... I will try this where ever posssible in my games in comming days ....

  • hey there babaikaushik. The win rate for white with the Smith-Morra Gambit is statistically the highest win ratio of any defence against sicilian. That's why most grandmasters favor 1. d4 and the grunfeld lines.

  • What I meant to say...is players hate the sicilian so much they prefer 1. d4 to avoid blacks 1. ...c5. 1. e4 generally leads to aggressive exchanging games where as 1. d4 usually leads to positional games.
