  • ive always prefered jimmy pages fuzz tone over jimi hendrix, dont get me wrong i love hendrix, but pages fuzz just melts my face

  • very pleasant sounding

  • Have one, love it!

  • Man this sounds like fun.

  • the intro is beautiful

  • @huntermm8 It's "Third Stone from the Sun" by Jimi Hendrix. : )

  • Andy, at 5.40 when you played the fuzz haze in 'hi-gain' with humbuckers, was the volume on the guitar full or did you have to roll it back to tame the bass?

  • Hey Andy, what guitar were you using in this video? Is it still the G&L?

  • hey andy,

what kind of cables do you use? also, could you guys demo some roger mayer fuzzboxes?

  • Is it just me or does Andy really never sets the "fuzz" or "gain" on a fuzz pedal lower than 12 o'clock during the demos? I know that he uses the guitar volume to show the lower gain settings, but that's not exactly the same thing as using full volume into a less gained fuzz, right? I actually quite like to use fuzz pedals as some sorts of overdrives, using low gain settings!

  • what guitars were used for this demo?

  • @6packofsteel - I'm hearing a Strat during the opening part, plus I know he uses a Les Paul like halfway-through. I think those were the only two guitars used.

I have the Fuzz Haze, and it's every bit as great as it sounds in the video - Better even. Surprisingly, I use mine a lot more than my NKT Sunface at this point. Can't say enough about this thing.

  • The coolest thing about this pedal (Well, maybe not the coolest thing, but cool regardless) is that it's like an Arbiter Fuzzface (i.e. germanium) with the hairier texture of a Dallas-Arbiter Fuzzface (i.e. silicon), and that's a great combination. I think this is due to the use of 2n404 transistors rather than the hard-to-find, new/old-stock, British 'New Market' NKT275's used in the original Fuzzface. But instead of being a drawback, it actually makes it a much-more-versatile Fuzzface.

  • great song choice! been watching videos all night but had to comment on this one!

  • Nice One Andy With ... Arrested For Driving While Blind... one of my ZZs Favourite ! Wasn't He Using a Bionix Expandora ?? Correct me if he was indeed using a Fuzz Face during this song ! Keep On the Good Work ! Best Demos on the Web ! Yeah ..

  • is PGS going to demo the Throbak overdrive boost?

it will be the deciding matter for me!

  • andy. i use a les paul through a mildly overdriven orange (with plenty of mids), which out of this and the stone bender would suit my rig the best?

  • i would love to hear this with the philosophers tone germanium... YUMMMM

  • how it works whit bass????

  • these kind of fuzz tones sound awesome by itself, but throw in a drum kit and a bass and vocals and all the clarity gets lost in the mix.

  • @gree17 - PGS and Jimi Hendrix disagree with this statement : )

    -PGS Crew

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Hendrix had a bajillion 100W amps behind him and a crowd willing to get their heads blown up with the volume Jimi was shooting out.

  • @gree17

the 1960's disagrees with this statement.

  • @gree17

Some fuzzes work very-well in a band-setting. The Fuzz Haze cuts through VERY-well in a live-mix. It's actually my favorite pedal to use live (especially with that pre-gain switch on). It's the most-forgiving fuzz I've ever played. Impossible to get a bad sound out of it. Oh, and all those sounds you hear in the PGS video? That's exactly how it sounds. I can't say enough about this thing (and I have an NKT Sunface that doesn't see much action). Perfect for someone's first fuzz-pedal.

  • nice work andy

does the pedal need to be at the beginning of the chain like the old fuzz germanium fuzz faces?

how does it go with wah's?

presumably before the wah in the chain too?

    cheers

  • @meateaterer - Germanium pedals can be finicky about what they see at the input, so yes, most likely it would want to be at the beginning of the chain. Friendliness with wah depends more on the wah than the fuzz. Experimentation is encouraged. Thanks for watching.

  • 3rd stone from the sun \o/

  • I loved that touch of Purple Haze in Third Stone From the Sun. Well done!

  • YES Third Stone From the Sun!! GOOOOd choice!!! thumbs up!

  • so as far as fuzz pedals go, im slightly stuck between this and the zvex mastotron. id say the mastotron hands down but when i played it it felt as though it wasnt as messy as this one would be. wat do you guys think of them? any preferences?

  • @turniton512 i think this one really comes alive when you go into lead playing and open the volume knob all the way :) very responsive

  • What amp was used for the recording? Thanks :)

  • @TurquoiseArmies A Fender DRRI

  • AWESOME pedal!

  • Wow that sounds good. I need to get rid of my silicon FF and get a germanium.

  • Sounds great and good idea to make it more modern but... another fuzz???

You'd think with so many on the market the price of fuzzboxes would start to fall but apparently not

  • HENDRIX!!!

  • Hendrix would be proud of you, Andy :)

  • can someone please explain to me what dos volume clean-up mean?

  • @kristerkr - When the tone is cleaned up by rolling back on the guitar's volume knob. Not all pedals respond well to this, so it can be a good indication of the dynamic potential of a particular dirt pedal. Thanks!

  • beautiful third stone from the sun

  • Hey Andy, what exactly is germanium?

  • @omfg51 - Germanium is a chemical element (symbol Ge, atomic number 32) used widely in manufacturing transistors. Dmitri Mendeleev predicted it's existence in 1869, and it was discovered two decades later by Clemens Winkler and named in honor of his mother country, Germany. And now here it is in our fuzz pedals! Thanks for the question.

    -PGS Crew

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

You guys will look up the atomic number and history of an element, but you can't figure out the difference between "it's" and "its".?. :P lol If you need a music-loving, guitar-savvy editor, I did happen to lose my job a few weeks ago, so just message me;):)

Aaaaand now I need to go watch every other demo for every other Throbak pedal, excuse me... :D

  • @yobhsiFehT Nobody wants to here a review from a grammer-correcting douche-bag...now we all no why you lost you're job... (yes, I made all of these errors on purpose to illustrate some point that I forgot already)

  • "HAZE" is written in purple for a good reason.

  • can you do a demo on a the fender special edition spalted maple telecaster hh please?

  • best fuzz Ive heard, great hendrix tone Andy!

  • this is awesome! how long does your shipping usually take if it were to be shipped to southern ontario?

  • @iunnodiapeys It should take a week to get to Canada.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Confirmed! My orders got here within 6 days.

  • @TONYEXPERIENCE They are $219, add to cart to calculate shipping. Yes we ship to italy everyday! Thanks,

    -PGS

  • They sound cool but Throbaks are ridicuolsy expensive.

  • how would this sound with a twin reverb n strat?

  • @ArtVandaleit I'm certain it would sound amazing

  • was tht muffin man by frank zappa i heard ?

  • Arrested for driving while blind!

  • Brilliant pedal and imitation of Hendrix at the beginning, some of the closest playing to Hendrix I've heard especially for a demo =)

  • fantastica fuzz!one of the best that i ever heard on youtube

  • What's the guitar bro?

  • Strange beautiful....

  • Yay another germanium fuzz. Yippee.

  • JIMI HENDRIX. guy... its hard to believe such a man. with such talents was alive. and not that long ago.

  • When Andy plays the tele, where is that riff from ? its awesome

  • Third Stone! My favorite Hendrix song, Thank you!

  • Third Stone!!! Hellz yeah!

  • the opening riff was beautiful!

  • THIRD STONE FROM THE SUN!

  • What was that intro? Sounded like a few different riffs mashed together, I know it's not built to spill but it almost sounded like it, and then some jimi popped outta nowhere...Anyone have a clue? 'Cause I dont.

  • @slctdmbntwrx i think it's just 'third stone from the sun' by jimi.

  • @slctdmbntwrx It was a Jimi medley bro.

BTW I love the choice of starting with Third Stone From the Sun!

  • @astro2069 Ohhh! That lick I liked was Third Stone from the Sun, that's crazy how modern it sounds, I swear if you told me some psych/indie band wrote it I wouldnt have been surprised, thanks ^_^

  • I spell Jim with a 'T'.

  • jimi is king

  • Oh dear lord this sounds sweet!

  • These pedals always look dorky to me.

  • The LED is kinda weak.

  • JIMI!!

  • cry I was hoping the marshall video would be the one put back up. I hope to see it soon PGS *Shakes fist*

  • So you're actually using a nearly dead battery. Is that why the led isn't shining when it's on?

  • @PauloVento It's a fresh stock battery but non-alkaline. Green LEDS are usually not very bright. Thanks,

    -PGS Crew

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Oh ok, my bad.

  • Comment removed

  • @PauloVento You didn't spell Jimi right. fail.

  • @coughlintm Ups. It's 2 AM here :P
