Detroit isn't the best, but it's still a great place to experience. This isn't a college town. You won't find groups of scantily clad girls party hopping (or frustratingly, very many late night eats) but there's something for everyone. Detroit isn't a city that welcomes people w/ open arms. Rather, you get what you put into it. Don't get me wrong, there are many things wrong w/ the city, but it's not as terrible as you'd think. No I'm not a hipster. No I'm not from a 'ghetto' suburb.
Hope springs eternal. Stupidity cuts to the bone. There are millions of better places to live than Detroit. If Detroit is your choice you really have lowered expectations, and no real sense of the reality of human nature. Especially primitive human nature.
Look at these liberal intellectuals and idealists blathering on about Detroit like in a Dockers commercial. Wait till they get burglarized, or car stolen, and watch them high tail it back to Novi and Rochester where they came from. Or they might just finally get sick of having to drive way out to beyond Ten Mile Rd to find a decent, clean, full service grocery store!
Wayne State actually provides full ride 4yr scholarships for a SWIMMER?? I am curious as to how much revenue does the swim team bring to the school. Does anyone pay admission to watch swim events ?? (besides immediate family of the swimmer of course) What a waste of school resources. Give scholarships to either those who need it, or those who's sport actually brings in admission paying patrons and fans.
Oh please! The restaurants and clubs are a nice ammenity for recreational times, but what a city needs to be liveable are full service grocery stores, national retail, drug stores, etc...within WALKING distance to high denstiy residential neighborhoods, and a comprehensive mass transit system. I dont go to clubs often, however, I do like walking or biking to grocery stores several tmes a week. Try that in Detroit. Whole Foods is a business, not a charity organization. Dont do it.
I love to see real Detroiters excited about Detroit; especially about Midtown. If anyone knows some individuals who would like to take on a rehabilitation project for better living and/or workplace please contact Sherman and in the meanwhile, see the project in Bursh Park/Midtown. type "3402 Brush" in youtube search bar
BEATIFULLY arranged video! What a fantastic appeal for campus life. For our students who are from our neighborhoods in Detroit this reminds them that there is an opportunity to "go away" for college without leaving the city. Density, diversity, arts, entertainment, and education... Midtown.
