  • Drum are a problem where im from. Trash fish bite my tongue!! Fun to catch.

  • I love kayak fishing, i've caught many 20 inch+ largemouth bass from mine. Its great because you can go in lakes that other boats just cant reach and that means lots of big fish that havent seen a lure before.

  • Great job on light tackle!

  • How do u keep your fish from going bad on a kayak

  • what was the rod and reel????? good job!

  • What rod holder is this thart you are using dude? I want one where did you get it

  • Great vid!

  • yeah, how was the fishing from the scrambler kayak? its kinda skinny compared to other fishing yaks, but its one of the cheapest. was it stable?

  • this oriental probably ate that sucker

  • Cool. I love catching Drum. I usually get them on Krocodile Spoons in the lakes. I need to get my kayak out on the river to see if I can target some drum. I've never tried targeting them, but I'd bet it's a blast!!

  • when you put on the fishing pole holders do you just screw them on or what??? im new to kayak fishing

  • when you put on the fishing pole holders do you just screw them on or what??? im new to kayak fishing

  • I'm buying a kayak this month what GPS do you recommend and what are the basic things i need on a kayak thanks for your time

  • Monster????????

  • That's not 15 pounds u retard

  • That's just good fun! Sheephead or not, cathching big fish on a yak is something everyone should try once.

  • big ol sheephead

  • you should tighten your drag

  • That looked like a blast! I have to say though, the sound of that reel would annoy me to no end. I've been using the Dawia baitcaster that has the twichin switch since it came out but I'm getting back into spinning. Anyways, have you tried ultralight poles from your yak?

  • in muskegon we are disappointed when we catch those. also no way that goes over 7 lbs.

  • awesome vid but no way is that a 15 pounder

  • what length rod do you use?

  • did you eat him

  • @countrymankdx200

This one went back. They're not a bad tasting fish. They don't have a great rep but I have found them to be pretty good.

  • @jonramos4 ok thanks for replying

  • 15 lbs my ASS!

  • lmao!! 15 lbs!?!? maybe 5 or 6!

  • great fight! That fish was seriously pulling!

  • What is that GPS looking thing?

  • this looks so much fun. I just installed a fishing rod holder onto my kayak and plan on going tomorrow!

  • what's the total cost on the setup of your kayak? or a quick breakdown of what you have on the kayak? any recommendations for a novice fisherman thats new to kayaking? looking to purchase a kayak soon, any recommendations and tip would be great. thanks.

  • @doua86

I purchased the kayak used on craigslist which is definitely what I would use if I was just getting started. This particular kayak brand new would cost about a grand but I got it for $650 and later added the fish finder $120, new mod pod $89, Rod holders $15. You can be creative and spend as much or as little as you want which is the great thing about kayak fishing. Definitely look at Craigslist for good yak deals. When you buy one let me know and maybe I can help you out with ideas.

  • @doua86

This one was pretty inexpensive as it was my first yak. Didn't even realize which yak it was until after i looked again. My suggestion would be to look on craigslist for a used one. YOu can find great deals. I actually sold this one for $500 which was a great deal considering all the options i had put into it. When you purchase one let me know and i'll help you out with some ideas. The great thing is you can spend as much or as little as you want. Just be creative.

  • Great video.

  • Nothing's better than fighting a big fish on light tackle! Nice vid, man.

  • Fishing light gear is the best fun. Nice vid.

  • hey wen i was 9 i caught a 17 pound sheep head and it had scales the size of quarters so i i guess urs is about 10 lbs and i got some balls fishign by the lock and dam with a kayak

  • Some of the best fish i have caught was from my kayak. If you love fishing you have to try this out its big time fun!

  • love fishing of my kayak its great fun....caught a decent size flathead on mine while trailing it was awesome!!

  • sweet carp! Kayak fishing is where its at!

  • That reel looks like a shimano Sienna 2500 FD

  • Hey man nice fish we should get to gather and I'll take you bass fishing supper fun

  • what kind of yak is that

  • @bigfishkid123

This yak was the Ocean Kayak Classic Scrambler XT

  • @bigfishkid123 Don't overlook the use of Scotty mounts and 1/2 PVC pipe as an inexpensive way of being creative with your rigging.

  • what reel is that

  • thats why I like fishing vid's........ who in this world can make a nasty remark about a day of fishing? except for an occasional eco-nazi, and they dont count!

  • what part of ms?

  • @Cgold93

It was out of Hampton IL

  • I don't use a net on my yak and end up with niks and cuts all over my legs, blood all over the yak....gee its fun!

  • Which Mojo bass rod and what size symetre do you have there?

  • nice drum, but thats around more like 7 pounds

  • @mackles

I have to go with Mackles that is not a 15 pound fish. to small

  • was that a silstar rod u was using if not what sort of rod was it

  • Consider coming up to Canada and fishing the Manitoba or Winnipeg lake, we've caught some drum about twice that size and you can just hammer them all day if you find em! Not dissin your fish man but come up sometime and check it out here, you wont wanna go back!

  • is that gavins point?

  • great vid and great fish :D

  • i love fishing from my kayak

  • Where Are you fishing?

  • whoa nice fish but one thing the title says Light Tackle Kayak Fishing and you didnt catch one single kayak

  • haha been here f..*pause* freaking two minutes!

champ! You inspired me to get a kayak and do that sport. Here in Australia it's getting more and more popular too! And ill definitely try hand-line fishing:)

    cheers mate!

  • great vid can't wait to see more after the thaw

  • HAHAHAHHAHAH 15 Pounder?!??!?!?!?! hahahahahahahhahahaahah wow ah...have you ever caught a 15 pound fish? thats maybe and 8 -10 lb range..cmon... "Mississippi river drum" ha come meet a nice florida drum n see what happens..

  • maybe you should tighten your drag just a nip...just a sugestion???? or it's good like that =]

  • nice fish lol but i never use such a light pole for saltwater

  • What pole are you using? Looks like a st. croix mojo...

  • i got a big snook out of a kayak

  • Respond to this video... ...

  • Nice camera rig too.

  • That looked like a great fight man, I just started using my kayak to fish it extremly fun man, great video oh did you eat that fish is it good to eat or nahh?

  • bro don mind u fishing at s'pore or ada country?

  • sounds like and looks like power pro braid...

  • nice red but in texas they are bigger yah i always have to send in the oversized tag all the time

  • @ModernSWATLeader that wasnt a red . and that drum was about 5 pounds at the most. u ca catch 30 to 40 pound black drum in big lake in southwestern louisiana although much people dont care for them that big. i also had a 40 pound red at the top there only to get cut by a crab trap at that was floating around.tip most helpful thing to catch a big drum is use a crab. you have to peel it a certain way though

  • nice fish but what kind is it?

  • @undrt8ker24 black drum actually a odd colored one. that is a very pale black drum

  • Comment removed

  • what kind of reel is that? looks like a quantum optix 30.

  • wow great fish

  • what lb test and what rod were you using?

  • @stillrob420

I was using a 6'9 medium light action dropshot rod made by St. Croix Mojo. I believe I had 10lb braid on this one.

  • that was done so well. good fishing!

  • @gangoooly

    Thanks man!

  • Awesome catch for light tackle!

  • @E22Chris

Thanks...you gotta love the fight on light tackle!

  • Nice catch! Way to land it.

  • Have you ever hand-line fished from your kayak? I'm thinking of trying it out.. How much was this little guy pulling you?

  • @PSNjizzcake

No, actually I've never hand-lined for fish. Seems pretty interesting though and wouldn't mind giving it a try at some point. With the current and the fish together he pulled me around pretty good!

  • fishing out of kayak is fun

  • @outdoordude27

Yeah man! You can't beat fishing out of a kayak. I hope that more and more people get into the sport.

  • @jonramos4 Im looking to get into kayaking and was wondering how easy are they to flip, im thinking about just going with a float tube.

  • @jonramos4 no noo noooooo more people ??? hell no.

  • Nice job i love fishing out of kayaks

  • What fish finder are you using, I want to get one for my yak I just dont which to go with, any tips?

  • @WRXSubaru05

sorry for the late response. This was a humminbird portable fishfinder. I have a couple portable units which work really well if you don't want to mess with drilling any holes into your yak. It has a suction cup on the transducer which sticks perfect to the bottom of the kayak. If you want something that isn't too expensive and has a lot of practical use, go with the portable. I also have a fixed humminbird fishfinder on my prowler trident. I do prefer humminbird because of the cs

  • What fish finder are you using, I want to hook one up on my kayak but I ont know what to get?

  • Good vid

  • I love freshwater drum. Fight like a truck. Nice work my brother, keep it up

  • whats your set up like the rod, real, line

  • What kind of rod is that?

  • Good fishing, boy!

  • thats no were near 15 pounds. you want to catch real drum and some of the best specks go to big lake in louisiana

  • @GeauxSaints7

Yeah...I think I got a little too excited when I called it a 15lber =) I definitely would love to make it down to Louisiana and get on some big reds!

  • your a great fisherman

  • @cassimd123

    Thanks!

  • Baahhhhhh! Sheeps Head, eyes on those things freak me out! Nice fish!

  • did u release it or have it for dinner?

  • @ljoekelsoey4

That guy went back into the river =)

  • nice rod and reel

  • wat pole. reel , and are u useing

  • that is not 15 pounds

  • its always fun to fish with light tackle, thumbs up if u agree

  • Nice fish, are they good to eat?

  • why did you hold it by th gills

  • what bait are you using

  • sweet!

  • what type of kayak is tht i was thinking about getting 1

  • @oplicon

It's a Ocean Kayak Scrambler XT. Pretty good yak at a great beginner price

  • come to lake erie. the sheephead are twice as big

  • @redbull23952395

I bet they are =) If I make my way there. You gotta take me out!

  • @jonramos4 It looks like you fish for them. Up here we don't want to catch them.

  • That's some cool light tackle action! We used to fish all light tackle, but have switched to offshore gear now.

  • @UyedaBrothers

Yeah...If I lived near the ocean like you guys...i would probably have done the same! Yak on Brothas

  • how well can you see your fish finder? i'm either gona get the scrambler like yours or the ascend fs12t from bps. i like the scrambler better, but the fs12t has a place closer to the seat that you could mount it.

  • @jdwilson2008

The fishfinder itself swivels so I can get a good read on it. I'm not familiar with the ascend fs but i'm sure it's a great yak. Post some vids so we can take a look at it.

  • What did you use? Bait or spinners?

  • @kuntucky123

This day was a mixture of both small cranks resembling a crawfish and live crawfish as well

  • Nice video! What brand and model kayak do u use here? Thanks

  • @phronie

Ocean Kayak Scrambler XT. Great kayak for someone learning the sport! Hope this helps

  • what camera are you using to record this?

  • @flspearo

Hmm...honestly can't remember for this one. These days I use a Sony and a Kodak sport waterproof version. If you're thinking of getting one. I would go with the Kodak Sport. Great camera for what we do and it's not too expensive

  • Muy bueno.

    Visited my video

  • @oyamaldo

    Gracias!

  • Damn I catch sheephead twice that size and don't stress half the shit you do

  • damn....that is a puss of a red. I catch specks that average larger than that. If hes 15 pounds you hit the pipe or something out there. Mississippi River is weak ass stuff compared to Alabama/Florida Line reds. 30+ inchers easily all day

  • thats a small ass drum to what i have caught

  • @KMTfisherman no kidding what is it

  • That a shame with the oil spill and all

  • Nice video

  • eww i hate sheephead. we usually get pissed when we catch them out here in mi. Id rather not catch anything than sheep.

  • What Kind Of Kayak Do You Have Like Whats The Brand And Model And Stuuf I Need To KNow To Get One Thanks Get At Me

  • What kind and size kayak?

  • Awsome vid Jon, thanks mate.

  • what type of rod, reel and line are you using and how do you have the line rigged up?

  • are you anchored at all man.. thats awesome nice work dude

  • IS that a fish finder in that kayak? Sweet set up.

  • what kind of rod and reel

  • haha I have the same shoes and use them for the same thing.

  • Hi three Jon,

nice spot for kayaking I got to fly out there.

  • Let's do it man! Lemme know if you ever get out this way!

  • What fish finder are you using? I have been looking into some and am looking at the Eagle cuda 245 or 300? any thoughts?

  • I like the Eagle series. I don't think you can go wrong. The one I've been using is a Hummingbird 215 portable. The only advice I can give really is on the issue of being portable. I wanted to use it with my other kayaks so I decided to go portable. Hope that helps

  • @cragcrawler - I have a Hummingbird smartcast 10 in my yak, its portable and i just tow the transducer or put it on a rod to cast ahead of a spot i plan to fish for maximum stealth. another advantage of being portable is the weight and being able to move it instead of mounting with a bracket. they all work though.

  • i saw this n im like 'i have one of those, its a St. Croix mojo!' great rods, but not what i would consider light tackle. which style of rod is it?

  • 6'9 Dropshot Rod M-Light on 6lb test. Pretty light =)

  • Nice fight!!

  • awesome video!!!!!!

  • nice video dude good catch what rod and reel were you using???

  • I was using a Shimano Symetre for the reel and a 6'9 dropshot rod by St. Croix (Bass Mojo Series). Great combo that isn't too expensive...

  • what rod/reel were you using?

  • Only breeding males make this sound. The drumming sound comes from muscles against the swim bladder. Today, local fishermen refer to the freshwater drum as silver or gray bass around the Ohio River and commonly known as sheepshead around Lake Erie. It has been said that freshwater drums in Lake Erie are "not fit to eat,"

  • Comment removed

  • labmaster thats a black drum which looks like a sheephead, they have the same pattern of black stripes. i don't think sheephead have any other name than sheephead.

  • LOL LOve the vids, and have caught plenty of those in our area...

However, what some call drum we call "SheepHead"....most smack them off the back of a boat and kill them.....

nobody wants to catch "drum" here lol

Fun from a kayak though, thislll be my first year of trying it....so I'll take the drum!

  • nice fish, come to ny for some striper fishin, good times,,yak on!!!!

  • I like the angle you have your camera at. How did you have it rigged? Can you post a video of that?

  • Nice fish dude, I love light tackle fishing from the kayak. I got a 67lb Thresher shark on 6lb a few years ago.

  • its hard to fish in kayack when there lots of waves.. your in a good place to fish in kayack,,,

  • Good to hear from you bro. Yeah it is chilly here in my new hometown of Jax. The fishing has been hard. If the sun comes out, you can tear em up, but on my days off, that does not happen. BTW, the Lord has blessed and I now am a manager at Dicks Sporting Goods in the hunting and fishing department.

  • That's awesome man! Bet that helps you out as far as your gear goes. I may be heading out that at the end of February but still uncertain. If I get a chance maybe we could get on some fish.

  • Good job man, can't wait to get a kayak of my own...Later

  • Nice Drum! We got some monsters up here in Lake Erie too. I love the fact that you got him on light tackle. My main rig is an Ultra light on a 5.5 or 6 ft pole and about 6# test. Keep Yakin!

  • Nice catch! One of these days I'm going to have to fish the Mississippi!

  • Nice fish bro. So that is a freshwater drum, looks alot like the saltwater kind. BTW, is that a St Croix mojo bass rod I see there?

  • @MattDOAman ,

Bro...man...sorry i totally didn't see this. Hope you're doing well in Florida! I hear you guys have been getting some pretty cold weather for your neck of the woods. Nothing like the Chi weather, but i'm sure it's pretty cold for you guys. And yeahyah. St. Croix mojo! When am I gonna see some more vids from you? Lates...

  • That is so cool, I like surf fishing and also go solo, but I would realy like to give it a go on the kayak.

  • Dude, do you go by yourself?
