I love kayak fishing, i've caught many 20 inch+ largemouth bass from mine. Its great because you can go in lakes that other boats just cant reach and that means lots of big fish that havent seen a lure before.
Cool. I love catching Drum. I usually get them on Krocodile Spoons in the lakes. I need to get my kayak out on the river to see if I can target some drum. I've never tried targeting them, but I'd bet it's a blast!!
That looked like a blast! I have to say though, the sound of that reel would annoy me to no end. I've been using the Dawia baitcaster that has the twichin switch since it came out but I'm getting back into spinning. Anyways, have you tried ultralight poles from your yak?
what's the total cost on the setup of your kayak? or a quick breakdown of what you have on the kayak? any recommendations for a novice fisherman thats new to kayaking? looking to purchase a kayak soon, any recommendations and tip would be great. thanks.
I purchased the kayak used on craigslist which is definitely what I would use if I was just getting started. This particular kayak brand new would cost about a grand but I got it for $650 and later added the fish finder $120, new mod pod $89, Rod holders $15. You can be creative and spend as much or as little as you want which is the great thing about kayak fishing. Definitely look at Craigslist for good yak deals. When you buy one let me know and maybe I can help you out with ideas.
This one was pretty inexpensive as it was my first yak. Didn't even realize which yak it was until after i looked again. My suggestion would be to look on craigslist for a used one. YOu can find great deals. I actually sold this one for $500 which was a great deal considering all the options i had put into it. When you purchase one let me know and i'll help you out with some ideas. The great thing is you can spend as much or as little as you want. Just be creative.

@ModernSWATLeader that wasnt a red . and that drum was about 5 pounds at the most. u ca catch 30 to 40 pound black drum in big lake in southwestern louisiana although much people dont care for them that big. i also had a 40 pound red at the top there only to get cut by a crab trap at that was floating around.tip most helpful thing to catch a big drum is use a crab. you have to peel it a certain way though
No, actually I've never hand-lined for fish. Seems pretty interesting though and wouldn't mind giving it a try at some point. With the current and the fish together he pulled me around pretty good!

sorry for the late response. This was a humminbird portable fishfinder. I have a couple portable units which work really well if you don't want to mess with drilling any holes into your yak. Nice Drum! We got some monsters up here in Lake Erie too. I love the fact that you got him on light tackle. My main rig is an Ultra light on a 5.5 or 6 ft pole and about 6# test. Keep Yakin!
