  • This woman went through everything she said she went through in this book.I knew of her & her family when I was growing up but I never actually met her.And I admire her rising above the poverty & hardship she endured.Amazing ! We love your grit & humor Jeannette!!

  • If Rose Mary Walls is still alive, she should be in jail for child abuse and neglect. Jeannette defending her parents in any way is disturbing. She reminds me of the beaten dog that still stays with its master. Jeannette's glorifying her parents' sick behavior is abusive to children every where who are hungry and beaten.

  • @Oehtkralc If all of the parents who were guilty of neglect back then were in jail, the streets would be very lonely. It wasn't really direct child abuse from what I've read so far. The author provided a fairly objective depiction of her parents, and for that she should be commended.

  • How could you hate this book!? I cannot put it down since I have started reading it.

  • i dont understand how you can simply tell someone that they didnt really go through something. you have no idea what the author went through, so dont go around saying its obviously made-up.

  • im doing this for english too. mines gonna be awesome though

  • Perhaps you just had a lack of imagination seeing as you probably have never been through half of the hardships Jeannette has been through. Don't knock it until you try it.

  • I agree with secret. Parts of the book were very upsetting but I found my envious of the closeness of her brother and sisters.

  • I guess I'm one of the few thinking this, but I feel like you missed a lot of the great parts of this book. You made it seem like Jeannette grew up sad and never had any good times. And I wouldn't have chosen this song, she didn't want people to pity her. Her childhood was hard, but it was still happy.

  • maybe.. but what i was trying to get at in the video was to show all the hardships she was forced to go through, and towards the end of the video, i try to show how certain attributes that she has allows her to break free from her misery.

  • Kinda hard to take it seriously when you have that degenerate "acting" like he's drunk and falling down. Is it supposed to be funny?

  • Walls' parents really depict the thin line btwn brilliance and insanity. Some of their ideas about life and living were way above the crowd, but her mom completely lacked any maternal instinct and her dad was an alcoholic... which made life pretty tough. But in the middle of all the chaos and insanity, they imparted much love and a lot of really brilliant ideas to their kids.

  • I was incredibly stuck to this book until all hours of the night, I couldnt put it down. I was so angry with her mother, and so sad about her dad, he really tried to be a family except his alcohol got in the way.

  • same all hours of the night :)

  • me three.

    :)

  • the book was written so beautifully!

her parents were destenied to be with each other, they are just really random lol

  • The book is sooo sad. It made me cry when I read it. This is excellent.
