According to "Stairway to Heaven" by Richard Cole, Plant could play guitar when he first met Jimmy Page. Plant strummed an arrangement of "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" on Jimmy's acoustic guitar. Everyone should check out Robert Plant, "Anniversary" in Toronto, 1990. Here you have two great guitar players: the truly incomparable Doug Boyle, and-- Robert Plant, who comes out rocking a guitar solo of his own! Awesome!!!!!

@sleazemeister Richard Cole's book was wrong with that, though, and Jimmy Page said that was one of the first things he read that infuriated him about it. Robert Plant didn't play guitar at the time, and certainly didn't show Jimmy "Babe."

Funny story-

Back in 1977 LZ was in Tampa for a concert. I wasn't a Zep fan at the time (it would be about another year-I was into Ace Frehley). I was in my local music store, and I see this really rockstar-looking dude come up to the counter to ask for a pick to try out a guitar. I thought "Man, that guy looks just like the singer for LZ, but why is he playing guitar?!" I didn't realize at the time that the singer was the one with blonde hair and the guitarist had brown-IT WAS JIMMY PAGE! DOH!
