you videos are really help but im wondering if you could help me out, im recording using simply an interface with microphones onto cubase but despite using good quality microphone and the gains and levels set very low, the qulaity of the sound recorded is still terrible and there is an insane amount of hiss, any advice? im really confused, thanks :/
Hey guys I'll make a video soon answering all your question ... All my gear is pack away at the moment, just moved house! Thank you for the comments! Be back soon!
I am just learning Garage Band and I have a mixing board with usb connection I was wondering about your external soundcard. Is it because it is higher quality or what? Your video is the best so far for me! Thank-you
@sstraya Honestly i got it for free, thats why i use it! but firewire sound cards help if your recording many tracks at once, they are faster. For what your doing USB will be fine, if not perfect
@PrinceJaeSho good old cheap ones from Dick Smith in Australia ... they sound great. My belief why spend loads of money on awesome great speakers and mix to that "perfect sound" when the people listening to your music will be listening to them on normal speakers. thats my excuse any way lol
Hi, I am looking for info. First I'd like to thank you for the very explanitory video. My thing is that I can record myself by doing track for track (Garage band end a Scarlett focusrite 2i2 interface) but would like to record the whole band in one go and remix it myself ?????????? An 8 piece band with 5 voclas would take too long track for track !!!!! Kindest regards Bill Taylor
@1943Billyboy ... bill as good as Garage band is, what your trying to do might require Logic ... how ever GB (Garageband) is fast enough and able to record simultaneous tracks. for each track select the input reference to your sound card if you have a multi-track sound card, or use a mixer. the mixer will only give you two outputs though, left and right! The Scarlett focusrite 2i2 interface does only have two inputs, so using a mixer might be your best bet! Any questions feel free to ask me
@whmusic1 interface is fine, works better in most case, i use to the mixer to fine "tune" my eq before it goes into the computer. i believe analogue mixing is better than digital.
@jblenki My opinion. If you don't have any of the stuff like our friend above, and you want to record and playback only guitar parts you should better use an external digital recorder (something like tascam dp004) than mess with pc's. It's simpler and cheaper.
@jblenki Simply create a main track, record your rhythm section. then create as many new track over the top and record them too ... make sure you click on the yellow headphone icon to here the tracks you have already recorded. please note that recording straight into the pc ie not through a USB/Firewire interface may have some lag, just to be mindful
@MegaManding0 connect the main out of your mixer (left and right channels) to your audio interface's inputs (XLR or trs connectors), then the audio interface connected to your computer via USB or firewire.
@ArtificialInfinity look at a thing made by native instruments called Maschine, i dunno what your gunna use it for but you might wanna check that outt
I have a question. i used to go to a friends house with an instrumental burned on a cd. i would give him the cd, he would put it in his computer with some programs, and i would get in the booth, put on these big headphones where i can hear the beat, and recite the lyrics i made. he recorded it by laying the vocals over the beat and thats how i made music. my question is: what would i need in terms of stuff to have that setup?
@coraliscopuselaborat You said you went to a friends house to record tracks, which begs the question: why don't you ask him. Any way, If all you want to do is just record audio (vocals) over a pre-made and already produced beat, then you just download a free audio editing software, like Audacity. If you want to record vocals, the easy option (but results won't be amazing) is to buy a USB condenser microphone which uses your onboard soundcard (audio interface). Samson, MXL, Behringer are cheap.
could you do a video on how to set up your microphone, speakers and headphones in ur mixer plz

What's the difference between having an MPC 2500 and a keyboard?
I don't know what to get. I already have a keyboard, but it doesn't have very many drum kit sounds. I know the MPC does.
The MPC also has a USB connection. Can I use that instead of the sound card thing you connect tot he mac?
