Well there's no guarantee there will be any 747's for the WEG, but it always possible one or two might slip in from across the ocean. I'm sure we'll see some 763's and A330's though. The airport really doesn't want 747's to land here because of the weight and the short runway at 7,000 feet (2100m+). It will be an exciting time for the airport and Lexington with the games coming to town.
I remember the old Blue Grass Field, with painted white fences for gates and Piedmont, Delta and Eastern Airlines as the carriers. The big events were the Eastern 1049G Connies to and from New York and the arrival of Delta's DC-9s to and from Cincinnati and Atlanta. Frontier to Denver served briefly, and then came the bigger airport and smaller regional jets.
When i go to my aunts house in lexington, you can watch them fly over her house! it is So Sweet i love Airplanes also helicopters! They can be a life saver!
Yes, you can see some traffic in the Richmond area to/from Bluegrass. I wished it was like it once was back in the 70's and 80's with more mainline flights. KLEX is nothing but RJ's now. Hopefully Allegiant and AirTran can bring some mid-sized aircraft back to the airport.

Yes, my father worked for Piedmont and I Eastern and Comair. It was great back in the 60's and 70's watching the mainline big birds come and go.

Usally on Wednesday after school my dad will pick me up to go to the airport to go spot(if its nice outside) and on nice Saturdays we'll go to.
