Even with a V12 bi-turbo diesel can be sad. With a naturally aspirated V12 petrol engine you can get so much performance, fun and sport sound (screaming engine sounds that you can't hear in diesel engines).

But let the Americans show how big trucks can be fast and yet get big engines (petrol) with lots of torque and waste thousandths of liters of fuel every time someone hits the gas pedal. With petrol you get a much faster "response" of torque.

@suixothekid Besides I already tested the BMW X6M and its the proof that with a smaller engine (6.0 vs 4.4) with less cylinders (V8) and the same number of turbos you can get from 0 to 62 mph or 100 km/h faster.. Its 4.3 sec vs 5.5 sec. I get to 200km/h very easy and it was stable as an airplane =)

Can't get to like diesel only by torque. It got to give me more reasons and one of them is the screaming sound that commands respect instead of blinding with dark smelly and disgusting smoke..

@suixothekid x5m weighs 2380kg vs. q7 with nearly 2700kg. ;) look at dragtimesinfouk and you'll see a q7 v12 tdi rushing from 0-100 kph in 4,9 and 0-200 kph in 18,7 sec. comparing power to weight ratio and the performance results, the x5m isnt that better (weighs less and has more power). the x5m does 0-100 in 4,7, not 4,3. most of the x5m are a bit slower than official data (4.7-5.3) while the q7 fulfills more than expected. and the sound? the x5m sounds (imho) like shit. just my 2 cents.

@3dule The only diesel engines that got an acceptable sound are those that run in LeMansSeries. Probably because its not normal diesel that they use on those engines (normal diesel is like piss for those engines). Per example: 1.0 petrol engine = funny scream compared with any normal 1.9 or 2.0 TDi that are too noisy and vomit dark smoke that stinks. BigDiesel sounds like any other diesel. In neutral its the same agricultural tractor sound! Anyway everybody got their own preferences. Petrol=Love

@3dule I'm sorry to hear that.. I prefer a 2.0 petrol without turbos that last the same as a diesel if not more km. I like silence in low rpms, to breath normally while i'm near the car instead that warm fart smell of any diesel engine and i like a screaming engine in high rpm (instead of dying @4000/4500). Someday you'll understand why petrol is fun. I've got it when i've tested a C63AMG with no turbos and 457hp that rip your head off when you hit the gas pedal. Its only for those who love cars

@3dule BTW A friend of mine has a BMW 727i from 1999 on 320000km and @6800rpm the horse power is there when he hits the gas pedal. The company that he works for gave him a 2010 golf TDi and he cries for his BMW every time he hits the gas pedal and the turbos take the lag time to kick in and after the turbos kick he says that is a useless high torque acceleration that dies too early. He's like me: Petrol is for fun, diesel is to save money. Diesel without a turbo is a flowerless garden: its sad.

@suixothekid (LOL it's 728i)but i agree with the big old petrols by merc and the bmw,thats true....you cant compare 2.8 liter petrol with 1.9 or 2.0 diesel..you just can't...a tip for your friend about the high torque:chip tuning...my cousin has a 2.0 tdi with 186 hp and the torqe curve is on 290 Nm from 1600 rpms to 4200...and trust me it's a lot of fun.....diesel without a turbo is weak and slow,but it lasts for a lifetime

@3dule Just to finish this discussion: I respect the existence of diesel engines. The only thing that makes me sick is the smoke (and the smell from the smoke). I can't understand the meaning of pressing the accelerator pedal and look from the middle mirror and see a cloud of smoke. I prefer to press and sound properly than fart dark smoke. In Portugal (where I live) VW engines are in SEAT cars and the chip tuning is a competition to see who vomits more smoke. In my opinion is pretty sad.

@3dule So to conclude I just want to say that if diesel did not exist, I was pretty much happier because every time I left home to go to the mall or college it would be guaranteed that no chipped TDi appear and blind me because there's a bimbo on the wheel. So every time I see smoke I laugh pretty loud just because its ridiculous and sad. Even if farting smoke gives me the best acceleration ever I prefer petrol cars. Allso diesel engined produce more torque much better fuel economy the fuel is cheaper than petrol in most countries and the same spec diesel engine has usually better top speeds than petrol engine if the same specs apply
