@ebin50 only if you corner it and it has no escape route. We have them near where we live and they are seldom seen. In the winter I can find their footprints in the snow, so i know they are around use!
Awesome animals! I live in Alaska and one of them just walked into my yard the other day. It was a fantastic moment of my life. I am heartbroken over the fact how many hobby lynx trappers we have up here..and none that I know are natives. It is one amazingly noble animal and I can't imagine anyone ever would be able to hurt one for vanity's sake - because modern trapping for fur has nothing to do with meeting basic human needs. AK is the only state where this is still legal. Heartbreaking!! :(
What a beautiful creature. Lynxes are my favorite animal. There's just something so primal and intriguing about them. I got to feed one once and it was an amazing experience.
They seemed relatively docile when I fed them, but the fact that they eat deer makes me kind of scared haha. It's pretty scary that the lynx is able to take down a deer.
Omgawd! Sooo many comments about how this cat looks when it's in the video! GEEZ People Reading Is Fundamental! I feel bad for you BCR, having to answer in full each time someone asks the same question. IF they would watch and LISTEN to the video, OR read the comments, THEN would PERHAPS get it!
Wow 18 1/2 years! I'll bet they probably don't live that long, in the natrual world. Felt sorry for that one lynx they showed, who got it's hand caught in a trap. That's gotta be painful! {:( I also feel bad to hear that alot of these creatures pictured in calenders, were not photographed in their natural habitat. That's sad! 3(
@Wobble143 She had been declawed before we rescued her so she always struggled to groom around her face, we added brushes to her enclosure to encourage/help but this didn't work, now she's old also. We did have to sedate her a few months ago as she wasn't feeling well and we trimmed the matted fur off while she was asleep, video to follow :)
@BigCatRescue This cat was BOUGHT AS A PET... Please do your research and look at the USDA paperwork on her and quit saying that the cat was "rescued". I've seen the paperwork for myself. Stop lying to the public for more cash. Please if you work at BCR... do your homework on CAROLE BASKIN. She bought this animal as a personal pet and for BREEDING. Don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself. The local USDA will have copies of the paperwork. Go see for yourself.
@nadjahlover When we first started rescuing animals we did buy them out of certain situations to save them, however we soon realized that this was simply fueling the trade, the owners could then go out and buy another big cat and we could not afford to buy every cat we saw out of a bad situation unfortunately. We quit breeding in the 90's, we would rather put our resources towards rescuing more cats than breeding more to live in cages for their entire life.
@tama826252 Yep, that is right. How many wild cats do you care for? Or are you one to believe the hype that certain others force feed the drones? Please get educated about the responsible care taking of exotic pets. There is a whole lot of made up information/facts being slung around by these people in order to sucker people like you to donate to their facility. There is nothing... and let me say it again... NOTHING wrong with owning, caring for, and nurturing a bobcat or lynx.
@nadjahlover These are wild animals not pets, that's the point of these videos. Say a pet lynx gets out and starts killing the neighbours dogs or attacking children because that's what wild animals do. What happens then? If a person owns a rottweiler that attacks someone, the animal is the one that has the most to lose because it can be ordered euthanized. And that's a domestic animal that can be trained and its behaviour predictable. Just because it was bought as a pet doesn't make it so.
@Greggorath How many lynx cats have you actually touched? Probably none. You can list all the "what ifs" you want. Even "domestic" animals have unpredictable tendencies. Just remember this: Your kind of ignorance kills thousands of animals every year. Yes, I have pet bobs and servals. They are very predictable. Just because you feed into the hype from those who want to rule the pet trade and use you to empower themselves, doesn't make your statements true. Education is key.
@nadjahlover Big cats should NOT be bought as pets or breed in captivity. The only place they SHOULD be bred is in Zoos. Big Cat Rescue has rescued the cats from many dangerous situations. They don't lie for the cash, they tell the truth to save more cats and they need to make money to make that happen. That is why they give tours.
@BigCatRescue You feed cats with the food on the stick because you question their intelligence. You also declaw them. And you dare to call yourself Cat Rescues??!! You should be arrested for that!!!
In one of the comments above BigCatRescue says "She had been declawed before we rescued" so it really isn't their fault.
As for feeding it on a stick, that doesn't seem to have anything to do with the cats intelligence. It isn't a pet and it's a previously abused animal, we have no idea how she is fed normally or how she would react to being fed by hand.
@Pook365 Keeping lynx in the zoo and feeding it is not enough! There should be good friendship established between that cat and the employee of the zoo. Especially when it comes to the fact that this animal was previously abused. And look at that beautiful animal which I am so tempted to kiss. What a lovely creature!
And feeding animal with still a lot to do with its intelligence. You know why? Because those people think that cat cannot make difference between real food and the human hand.
It's not a pet, they don't want it to feel like it is. Even if it was a pet the problem would remain, while a pet cat might nibble you a bit by accident when given food by hand or scratch you by accident this is a much more powerful animal that could actually hurt it's wardens.
@Pook365 Of course it is not a pet and should not be treated like a pet. Feeding it right from the hand by all means is not necessary. However, building good communication links between lynx and the warden should not harm but rather benefit both of them. How can we give efficient help to lynx if know so little about that animal?
@Wobble143 it needs a good brushing.. its sorta matted together. you wanna give it a go? lol, im sure in the wild this would not be an issue because it would be running through under brush. In captivity the animal is not so active
@BadAssG1rl Dances with wolves, was declawed by her previous owners so she's unable to groom around her head, we have tried fixing brushes etc..to the side of her cage for her to use but she doesn't. She was recently sick and sedated to run tests and we were able to trim all the matted fur off of her head, and she's feeling better now too! :)
@PhantomBrick Hi, we don't have any contact with our cats and Dances is very shy and trying to groom her would simply stress her out and she wouldn't trust people in the future. Since this video was made she was sedated to treat a health problem so we were able to remove all the matted fur :) She likes feeling the breeze on her neck now!
@BigCatRescue The owner intend to groom her daily . Since rescue it would be more traumatic to sedate and trim the excess hair . If the cat can be petted its possible to groom her with no reaction . But if she was force to be groomed or have a traumatic experience with the owner, it would be best to stay out .
1:35 "As well as certain parts of North america..."
*cough* Canada is part of North america, so is Mexico for that matter. It's a continent not a country... I think you meant certain parts of the United states outside of Alaska?
I don't know... to me it just sounded slightly ignorant in the video for some reason. It was blinking neon signs to me. When I heard it I cringed slightly.
Why is Dances With Wolves' fur so matted? Does the same principle apply as with dogs that the mats can tighten with exposure to rain or other sources or water and cause harm and possibly infection to the cat? Anyway, just curious. She's a beautiful kitty. Thanks BCR! Love you guys, your volunteers and everything you guys do for these beautiful and lovely cats.
@Luaeria Unfortunately Dances was declawed by her previous owners so she's unable to groom the sides of her face properly, we tried attaching brushes to the side of her enclosure to encourage her to groom that way but with no success.
"Canadian Lynx are found in the northern forests across almost all of Canada and Alaska as well as in certain parts of North America" I love these videos, but WHAT? :P
@bistander All our cats spend the hottest part of the day in the shade of their dens and surroundings or in the pool! They adapt to their climates well :)
@austinhh132 shut the fuck up you little idiot. you nasty mcdonalds eating americans are the only country in the world that declaw cats. who the hell declaws a cat? cutting off it's last knuckle. moron.
@MinsterRogers i dont believe in de-clawment and when i have the money im opening a rescue center like this.if i had a choice id live out of america, sorry i cant control where i was born. p.s. McDonalds is in Europe too ;)
It breaks my heart that such a beautiful creature has been put through soo much just for society's profit. And what's even more heart breaking, is that it's not just wild animals that are abused, but domestics as well. It's truly amazing what everyone in your organization has been doing for these wonderful cats. I wish I could physically be there to help you (because I myself have helped wild/domestic animals recover from abuse). Know that you are all an inspiration^_^
Dances With Wolves is BEAUTIFUL! Awareness is key in preserving these fascinating animals. Your work with the big cats is more important than ever. Thanks so much for posting!
@arunah11 Dances is old and she was declawed by her previous owners os he can't really groom herself around her head, we have attached brushes to the side of her enclosure to try and encourage her to but without success! Sedating Dances to simply remove matted fur at her age and her very shy character would definitely not be worth it.
@BigCatRescue : Thank you for the explanation! I was wondering why she had all that matted fur around her head. I'm appalled that her previous owners declawed her!!!
@Fawkes002 oh please. US is being one of the most hated countries in the world. The only kiss-ass ally America got is the UK, but after the oil-spill, your only ally Britain has been very upset since they think your government is anti-british. Holding a US passport is so inferiror than a Canadian passport. Go do some research, a lot of nations in the world would just love putting restrictions on American visitors, yet Canadian visitors got treated much better.

Someone should pay a visit to Joseph's hairdresser...

@arunah11 Dances is old and she was declawed by her previous owners os he can't really groom herself around her head, we have attached brushes to the side of her enclosure to try and encourage her to but without success! Sedating Dances to simply remove matted fur at her age and her very shy character would definitely not be worth it.

@BigCatRescue
what about getting her to sit still with treats?
Sanchara 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue That's so sad. I assume that Canadian lynxes don't make pets even though they're sold as such?
simpleman2423 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue : Thank you for the explanation! I was wondering why she had all that matted fur around her head. I'm appalled that her previous owners declawed her!!!

Fawkes002 1 year ago
@Fawkes002 oh please. US is being one of the most hated countries in the world. The only kiss-ass ally America got is the UK, but after the oil-spill, your only ally Britain has been very upset since they think your government is anti-british. Holding a US passport is so inferiror than a Canadian passport. Go do some research, a lot of nations in the world would just love putting restrictions on American visitors, yet Canadian visitors got treated much better.
