forget about aiming at that distance. Make it instinctive shooting. Focus on the target looking over front site. Then concentrate on getting quicker and retreating while shooting
Make sure to keep your pistol out to make sure your target is down before you holster it. And slinging your rifle the way you are is very dangerous, how are you going to get to it again?! You really need proper firearms training. But it is great you are out shooting just learn how to train properly then you will be good.
hey man, just sayin, it'd be a lot easier if you had a one point on your AR. and just let it drop while swinging your hands down, to a leg pistol rig. Oh, and its called a failure drill (the two shots to the body and one to the head) just lettin you know.

what's the hottest loads(highest velocity) you have shot through your glock 20? are you using the factory recoil spring assembly?what's you favorite load to shoot in you glock 20?
You need to slow down. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast... Pick up the tempo as your hits allow you to...don't outrun your abillity...it just causes you to be sloppy and ingrains bad habbits. Also simplify your gear to. Good strongside holster that doesn't sweep your own body as you move. You have good a good practice setup and pistol...just slow down and be safe...don't need to look like an operator from ghost recon 5 to practice deffensive HG skills...but to each their own...be safe
the people who leave comments wondering why people practice firearm drills like this must not live in the u.s, or their too busy watching dancing with the stars and blind to what is going on around them.
A good after market compensator like the one made by Lone Wolf reduce the recoil significantly making it as easy to shoot as a 9mm. And having a +2 base plate for 17 rounds makes more room for your supporting hand to control the recoil.
Yeah get a tactical sli.g for the m4 and maybe rven a retention strap to get it out of the way... And train on mag changes on that pistol always a possibility in a gun fight! Piont is muscle memory then it becomes an instinct and reaction= split second train again and again and..... It takes and average of 1000 times of repeating something yo make it muscle memory
@qwiksquirrel it doesnt matter if its just a mugger they have already taken the steps to endanger your life if theyre mugging you in a back alley so yes the 'goodbuy kiss' or double tao is perfect to train for the point is self preservation not saving the criminals life maybe people shouldnt be criminals if they dont wanna get blasted by a well trained civilian! Thank god for the 2nd amendmant and not to many douches like qwiksquirrel our in our gov.....look up blackwater trainin videos for tips
Good training. One thing ive noticed just a little corrective criticism is when you are moving and shooting. To me it looks as if you are just kinda walking relaxed not in a defensive or a offensive fighting stance/movement. And when you have "eliminated" the threat or completed your rounds on target, you lift your handgun up when you need to be scanning and making sure the threat is eliminated. Keep it up i know this video is from 2010 but just helping a fellow shooter out.
At that range, I'd really try to shoot from retention (google.) It's faster and less likely to get grabbed. Also, you need to use a shot timer or have someone call it for you - doing it whenver you want is a different beast from having to react to outside input, like the timer or other shooter.
I really hate "drills" like this. They are simply useless in the real world and often teaches the shooter some really bad habits.
If you are close enough for hand-to-hand, drawing a pistol will only slow you down. faced with someone who knows how to fight, this could get you killed.
Drawing up close with an opponent, skilled in disarming techniques, you could very well be giving him you weapon.
Getting shot with ones own weapon, is about the crappiest way to go.
@qwiksquirrel Since when were most defensive techniques designed for fighting "skilled opponents?" And versus someone skilled in hand to hand, is bare hands really a better weapon than a firearm? Also, keep in mind this is the guy's first time running drills with these guns, for Chrissakes!
Is that really a chance you wan't to take? Hoping that, on the off chance that you one day get attacked, it wil be by someone who has no clue what he is doing?
Proper defensive techniques have always been designed with a skilled opponent in mind. The alternative would be like having a car that only works going down hill.
Underestimate your opponent is the biggest mistake you can make.
If you draw a weapon on another human being, you must be ready to kill that person. This may not be your intention, but a firearm makes that a very likely outcome.
And the "double tab/goodnight kiss" combination that this guy is training, leaves no possibility of survival.
99.9% of all people are not ready to take another persons life, so basing your entire defensive strategy on doing just that, simply will not work.
@qwiksquirrel Here's the point. If they're trained and want to kill you, they will. There's not a lot you can do at that point. What people prepare for is the less-than perfect attacks. It's unrealistic to think you're going to hold your ground with a concealed pistol against a trained warrior very well. I'm not saying you should leave any gaps in your defense - I for one strongly believe in retention shooting to avoid grabs, but I think you're just exaggerating a little.
In the real world, wannabe G.I. Joe's like this guy, is not going to face an opponent, who attacks him specifically with the purpose of killing him. Mr. mall ninja here, will most likely never face anything other than perhaps a mugger in a back alley.
It's unlikely that a mugger would want to kill his victim, but he is likely desperate enough to not hesitate if it comes to that.
He would be better of training, drawing his wallet and handing it over.
No civilian should ever carry a gun in public. Apart from transporting ones weapon to and from hunts, the range etc.
I both hunt and shoot IPSC, so I wouldn't want guns banned altogether, but guns in the hands of civilians, on the streets, is about the worst idea ever.
Just look at the facts. Every country that does not allow civilians to carry firearms, have noticeably lover crime rates and almost no gun related deaths.
@qwiksquirrel I'd totally agree with you if we were one of those nations. But to treat the US as the same as other countries with less guns doesn't make sense. The US is one of the only places where carry is even a legitimate idea. The numbers even support that armed crime drops in places where CCW is implemented.
@qwiksquirrel Get real, take the guns out of the hands of civilians and they become sitting ducks for any government to do as they will. Nah, I like having my rights to carry to protect my family and defend as any man should. Criminals should not have guns but since they are and will get them at ALL costs, even government criminals, I exercise my rights to carry DAILY
@qwiksquirrel you should live where I do you'd stop this nonsense or die talking it. SMH I live in the real world and it gets worse daily, what world do you live in sir?
I like all your guns (especially the G20), but what exactly are you doing? I know it's some sort of military or self-defense drill, but why? Are you in the military, or getting ready to go? I guess what I'm asking is, what are you getting ready for? If it was just a pistol drill I would understand, but I can't think of anything short of military duty that would involve the AR-15. Do you know something we don't? Shit, the zombies are coming aren't they! I fucking knew it, and I'm low on ammo!
@alphazuluz LOL yes the zombies are coming in 2012...didn't you know? i'm just trying out this type of pistol drill to become more of a dynamic shooter. i have spent lots of hours at gun ranges, an hours out camping shooting clays, i just want to take my shooting ability/hobby to the next level. and remember...no matter how much you prepare for zombies you will always be at 80% ready.
Just a few constructive thoughts. When you finish the pistol drill keep the weapon pointed at the target, keep the fighting posture, and look around. I noticed when you finish the drills you point your weapon in the air. If you are training on your own you may want to consider a timer so that if keeps you a little off balance as far as timing. If you have a partner you can have them call out commands. Just a though.....
Hey dude, just a friendly safety tip: after your last shot, you almost always point the muzzle vertical. If you're moving, you could trip, lose your balance, etc and if your finger is still on the trigger and you have an AD, that round is going up through your chin. Always keep the muzzle pointed down range.
fun video. but i fully agree with the sling questions.....why would you use that type? your transfer would speed up considerably should you go to single point...even a three point would be better.
as well, curious about the chest rig. seen that in shops before, but never seen anyone actually use it. why do you use it instead of a drop down thigh?
@pommedupin i have the sling this way just to keep it simple. i do like running a single point bungee sling on my remington 870. the rig is a 5.11, and i find that the pistol mounted up on my chest is comfortable, out of the way and fast to deploy. thanks for watching
@pommedupin it's a failure drill and in a gun fight you only switch to your secondary if your main gun goes down or you are out of ammo. single point isn't always good because if someone grabs your weapon you just become a big yoyo and if you do transition, your muzzle is in the dirt, snow, mud etc. A two point can be slung across you're back to be out of the way of pouches and other things. It's a last ditch effort. many times in a serious gunfight, if u have 2 switch you're dead anyway
@DKtrecour its to break up the solid OD green color of that vest, and because 5.11 doesn't make a mulitcam molle vest, so my short answer is sort of a camouflage effect. :P thanks for watching
Good video. However, I would like to see you move quicker with more urgency. You should probably try a single-point sling. I enjoyed watching. Keep up the great work.
May i ask why you are spetnaz dumping your AR-15 if you have to get that gun back into the fight you are doing your self a disservice. just let the rifle stay in-front pushed to the side by your weak hand and then use your secondary firearm. not trying to judge just offering a different option.
Hey brother, notice how slow it was doing the transitions from ar to pistol? single point slings enable you to just let go and switch to your secondary, might want to check it out.
I enjoyed that, man. I can see you getting more comfortable with the routine and techniques.
Good job on the one handed pistol drills. I would suggest adding a "no slide release" drill to that; maybe using the heel of your boot as a catch to pull it back and release it. Fine motor skills go bye-bye under stress, and to me that means the slide release could be harder to actuate. Just a thought. :)
I enjoyed the vid. I was recently trying some new tactical shooting drills myself. I liked seeing your set-up. It provokes good ideas for others to try. I liked your behind the knee trick as well. I have not seen that before. I, as well, will have to try that. Your "look" was awesome too! You had a lot of sweet gear on. Definately a nice load out! Thanks for posting!
One thing you did in this video is when you put the G20 behind your knee to reload.... I'm going to have to remember that move and give it a try.... I'm up for more shooting video.... Don't know how much of a pain it is to edit your videos, but they are worth it from my end.....
it wasnt bad, i like seening how others shot and maybe learn some from them. so i wouldnt mind seeing more. you looked more comfortable near the middle/end. solid vid tho IMO
My only though is if the ar15 jams. Just hold it with your left and draw/shoot with your right. Good vid though.
