I hope you're not talking about DJ AM. You know, he was only went back on the medications that killed him because he was in a fucking plane crash. Those pills he took shouldn't exist. They are a synthetic form of Heroine with a time release. If you chew the pill and break the time release, it's exactly like fucking Heroine with zero difference. The fact that you have drug companies peddling these around to people like me who have pain from a fucked up surgery for the rest of their life is atrocious. If you've ever had to struggle with horrible pain on a daily basis, pain which no doctor could fix. And lets say the only thing that doctors could do for you is put you on a medication that was highly addictive for the rest of your life, and made it very hard for you to function...And one day you decided to fight your own addiction to get off of it...Maybe then you'd understand why I empathize with what he was doing. Therefore, the recovering addict is actually at much greater risk for lethal OD than active users (especially since over 95% of recovering addicts will relapse at some point). I hope you're not talking about DJ AM. You know, he was only went back on the medications that killed him because he was in a fucking plane crash. People who saw him get ejected, saw the other survivor and him pat the flames off each other. I'm sure he didn't want to be on that medication, but given the circumstances got back on them knowing there wasn't another option. If you've ever had to struggle with horrible pain on a daily basis, pain which no doctor could fix. And lets say the only thing that doctors could do for you is put you on a medication that was highly addictive for the rest of your life, and made it very hard for you to function...And one day you decided to fight your own addiction to get off of it...Maybe then you'd understand why I empathize with what he was doing. I'd rather be in pain than on those meds but it's not an easy fight

He had gotten sober, he had chronic pain, and was prescribed Oxycontin because he was ejected out of a plane while on fire. Once someone who was a junkie starts taking those pills again, it's really just a matter of time before they become a fully blown drug addict again. Oxycontin is basically synthetic Heroin with a time release, that is easily broken. What do you think is going to happen when you give hard drugs to a recovered junkie as "medication", they will relapse and OD.

I know the Oxycontin was prescribed to him for sure. He probably got the Xanax legally also. Considering things from his job would trigger intense anxiety about the plane crash (pyrotechnic displays) and it's not hard to get. I had a friend who got legally prescribed 240, 1mg tabs of Xanax per month. When he wanted to stop, he found out it was more physically addictive than meth. If you go cold turkey you can go 28 days without any sign of withdrawal and have a seizure or drop dead

After any significant period of sobriety, the body loses it's ability to metabolize the recovering user's drug of choice. Therefore, the recovering addict is actually at much greater risk for lethal OD than active users (especially since over 95% of recovering addicts will relapse at some point). This guy wouldn't be dead right now if doctors had discussed with him proper dosage levels in case of relapse.
