  • Has anyone got an episode of Family Fortunes with the coloured scoreboard?

  • 2:11 "Biiiiiiiiiig monnnneeeeeeyyyyyyy" is the precursor to the "Riiiiiiiiidge Raaaacceeerrrrrrr" quote.

  • Is there any reason why the TVS slides look exactly like Channel 4 ones. Font is similar, logo position etc.

  • that was only a guess, though.

  • As any one got any full Family Fortunes colour screen episodes fron 1987 i saw 2 of them on Challenge 2/3 years back and really enjoys watching them if you do plz upload thanx

  • lol. the only thing he could ever do was that bloody awful mavis impression. ROFL!

  • Les Dennis was a good host of this show but it was always cringe-inducing when he began his 'impressions'. That new-style board looks like it gives off some high level radiation! No wonder they switched it back.

  • @gazmccarthy I do like what they did with the Central ident though.

  • allen jeremy doesnt have this footage anymore, as the tape was destroyed. such a shame.

  • Is the LWT programme at the start Blind Date?

  • A friend of mine has found a newspaper from June 27th 1987 and the LWT programme finishing was Blind Date which was the last episode of series 2.

  • Haha, in a classic 80s style that logo is gloriously incomprehensible.

  • Looks like it was by the same people who designed the opening titles for Yorkshire's Good Morning Calendar.

  • I think they made the 1987 series at Centrals Broad Street studios in Birmingham

  • Family Fortunes was first filmed at the Nottingham Lenton Lane studios in the late 1983 series with Max Bygraves (the series which featured the most famous ever episode - TURKEY!), and I remember Les Dennis pointing out that the show was made in Nottingham in the early 90s. I don't recall a time when the moved to Birmingham. The only time I know of Family Fortunes in Birmingham is when they filmed it at the old Elstree studios between 1979 and early 1983.

  • it started in 1979 with BOB Monkhouses!

    where is it??

  • 1979-1981>ATV Borehamwood

    1982-1983>Central Elstree (same studios)

    1983-1985>Central Nottingham

    1987>Central Birmingham

    1988-2003>Central Nottingham

  • les dennis wrote and performed that saxophone piece in the theme.. check the family fortunes wikipedia

  • i wonder if someone could post a full episode with the color scoreboard, or as the UK sez it, COLOUR?

  • Yuck, I can see why they got rid of the colour board fairly promptly!

  • Hi csonicp!

That colour board that was used during Les Dennis' first series of Family Fortunes was absolutely disgusting and makes people want to reach out for a sick bag.

I'm glad they got rid of it for Les'2nd series in 1988 and reinstated the old scoreboard!

  • well I don;t see why the viewers did that. I would have thought it would have fitted in with 80s fasions!

  • I quite liked the colour board. Its the modern one in the Vernon Kay version I don't like.

  • Completely agreed. It's TOO modern. The dot matrix board was used up to the 2003 daytime version, so why bother changing it?

  • where was Family Fortunes being filmed in 1987 allenjeremy?

  • I think it was filmed at Central's Studios in Nottingham.

  • there were so many complaints about the new board that the brought the old one back.

  • like what?

  • Young Les Dennis looks exactly like Pal Waktaar from a-ha!

  • No way, gosh the days before Oasis! gosh

  • who is doing the voice over on Les dennis' debut as host of Family Fortunes?

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeer big money! what the hell is les dennis on? yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer *wiggles arms*

  • He was doing an impression of Max Bygraves as he hosted Family Fortunes before Les Dennis.

  • so why was Max Bygraves doing that then? what the hell was he on!

  • Max Bygraves became the host after Bob Monkhouse defected to the BBC in 1983.

  • like most impersonations, it's exaggerated.

  • Who does is the announcer on Les Dennis'first show as host of Family Fortunes.

  • the sad thing is the studios they were produced in no longer in use, I believe its now part of Uni of Nottingham

  • was this a full episode?

  • Aidan - it was something along the lines of Les having some banter with the audience, and the board responded with a big 'euuh-uuh', it's a long time since I saw it so can't remember exact details.

  • That theme tune is SOOOOO camp!

  • any full episodes of family fortunes from 1987 to 1992?

  • great clip, any more of these brilliant clips.

  • Interesting in how the colour scoreboard only lasted for this series. I remember seeing the repeats of this on Challenge... the board didn't like Les as I undertsand it in one episode...

  • why, what happened?
