I've stumbled upon this epic piece of music just a few years ago, actually by my music teacher. Dang it, I have to thank him for that. He was actually against the mainstream music, he called it "Nonsense and crap" and I really looked up to him for that.
Since he showed me this...I didnt listen to it for a long time, and now I am and...Damn. Its so epic.
@Krati08071995 haha my english teacher showed me this 3-4 years ago too, and I just had crazy memories go through my head from reading your comment...similar story here :)
JUST MISSED!!! "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" just missed making the Billboard's Hot Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 11 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1968. This song was featured in the movie "The Graduate"!!!
@scar1467 i don't know if you've read it yet but the curse with the song was the only good thing abou that book. I don't know, usually i like fantasy type stuff but that book just pissed me off.
The song tells the tale of a young man, who tells the listener to ask his former lover to perform for him a series of impossible tasks, such as making him a shirt without a seam and then washing it in a dry well, adding that if she completes these tasks he will take her back.
@1337w0n Yeah, it came out in the 17th century or so, but I still believe Simon and Garfunkel's is the best. And I heard plenty of different takes on this song as a kid.
All of these comments are about how people came here... but you fail to recognize how beautiful this tune is! This is the first time I've ever heard this, and its amazing. Beautiful <3 x
This is one of the most beautiful but simple songs ever written and performed. Everything about it is just peaceful and the lyrics and music are able to show so many emotions that it feels like you're floating.
Hey Haters, just because Simon and Garfunkel don't feature Kid Cudi doesn't mean you click the dislike button, it means you need to listen to some real music...
@el3m3nthorze true, but most of Kid Cudi's music is fast word play, where as this is difinitive chord structure and actual notes, but yes its a matter of opinion, but if it's negative towards this music, then I can express my opinion to tell people not to post negative remarks toward the music.
@alchemy253 What a great movie. I recently watched The Graduate in one of my classes in high school because we are learing about the 60's decade. Very interesting movie!
first song i learned on guitar....this song literally brings me to tears because it speaks to my heart...i can think about deep stuff to this song....just pure beauty
@horrorpup Selbst wenn, wäre es "in deinem Land nicht verfügbar" und du müsstest über einen Proxy rein, weil die GEMA wieder die Finger im Spiel gehabt hätte. Wetten? ;)
This will sound funny!! But it is the version I learned in chorus in high school! I have been looking for this version for... forever!!! I'm so glad you have made it available. :)
Always makes me cry and I just don't know why.... can't stop listening t it... damn this song is amazing... it touches my sould and sounds right through my heart...
This song was actually used for an example of counter melody in my music class today. Never knew the term for it, but now that I think of it counter melody is used to absolutely beautiful effect in every song I know that uses the technique. This still has to be the best I know of though.
(FYI: the counter melody would be the parts that are put up in parentheses in the lyrics. A completely separate melody that runs under the more pronounced main melody without harmonizing with it.)
one of the most xtraordinry songs from 2 gifted artsts of all time along w/ john denvr ,don mclean etc...one of my fav. songs in the music industry...very beautiful lyrics as well as melody!
i work at shows & fairs all over the place & it reminds me of girls i have meet. love listening to it. its deep, clever & very meaningful. i love 2 drift off listening too it
this is a very strange song, it has a living magic inside but I think it sure the composer made a potion mixing parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme to bewitch this beautiful song that is why it is nº 1 in the charts from the middle ages up to now.
I LOVE this song! Oh and guys, stop arguing about what the lyrics mean and sit back and enjoy this beautiful song. These days, you don't get many songs that wow you like that.
You both r stupid no it was the pledge that killed many people they used parsly rosemary sage and tyhme to cover up the smells they used cloth with no needle work to bury the people who died his lover died from the pledge he means do all those things on the other side. even I know that and I'm 12 we learned it in music.
YES, as a reference to the black plague but there are other beliefs you could have learned in music class as well, such as it was also believed that the four herbs were a love charm Parsley for lust, Sage for wisdon, Rosemary for remembrance and Thyme to make her irresistable to him.
Its amazing how you can get songs wrong in your head. For example I thought that they sung " Sweeps far away from the calling of God" and " There goes the child of the mountains" and " Chasing the starlight on snowcrested ground" I am a bit disappointed because I believe that the words I believed sounded much better, now I know the trurth now the song sounds a bit more bland.
It's of a young man who is telling his listener to tel his former lover of several impossible tasks and if she completes them, only then he will take her back. In other words, he'd never take her back.
