My sister just bought a new guitar so I said she should sell her old one and my mam on a whim said oh put old guitar on. I had never heard it, and now I think it's in my new favourites list!
He sang this song at the London Palladium some years ago I heard it on a vinyl LP and to me it sound the best He talked about writing the song and what it meant to him Great loss
This is one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar(1974). I began playing from a gift Gibson guitar at age 12 (1966). John Denver wrote this song about a 1910 Gibson "F-hole" acoustic jazz guitar his grandmother gave him when he was 12 years old. Now, 37 years later, I still play it and love it the same as always. Sadly, John Denver died on my daughters 8th birthday, Oct,12th, 1997. Ironic.
This is the best rendering of this song. Even Denver himself couldn't improve on it in his later performances of this song. I have heard many versions and renditions of this song, but nothing can top this one!
I was so glad I got to attend one of his concerts, it will forever be in my heart as his music is. My two children grew up listening to the songs and now my two grandchildren do too! I hope he is at peace at last!
Always a most special place in my heart John. Love you man :) Met John twice and i'm so happy now. My gorgeous girlfriend loves his music too X Peace all, thanks X
it should be pretty easy to hear its not that complicated of a song ^^ únless ofcourse you want it to be EXACTLY what he is playing. but pretty much just [D]D/C#]Hm]G]A] for the chords, there is some various in the chord-length, but not that much. Hope it helps :)
i think he is the best singer ever when i listen to him wen im angry he calms me down and every john denver song i look at on youtube i dont ever see peoplesaying he is rubbish
his music never ceases to make me happy and the gift he gave me to appreciate the beauty around me i am trying to pass down to my children he was truly one of a kind no one can ever take his place
damn.....cant explain what im feeling when im listeing to this, its like all my problems just floats away, John Denver, best musician after aesop rock! RIP
I love this song, I even recorded my own arrangement of it and put it on youtube. John Denver was without a doubt one of the greatest acoustic musicians to ever walk the planet. His music will live on forever.
I've only recently realized just how powerful and genuine a recording artist John was. I've known about him of course for a long time, but never actually gotten into his music. More and more, I'm glad that I did. :D
I love John Denver music since school days. It brings lots of memories of loneliness, happiness, sadness and I'm always find comfort in this sort. It's very very special song.
He had such a pure and special voice. He was very popular when I was in my late teen and early 20's--I grew up with him, and he never let me down. I love/loved John Denver... thank you so much for posting "This Old Guitar". It is a wonderful version, and one of my all time favorites. Bless you.

To quote the man himself - and us when we were younger - we grew up with his music - "Far out."

When I play and sing this song,
I imagining this very beautiful girl right in front of me.
She asks me to sing this song while we're having a picnic at the park.
It's very romantic.

John used this song to close many of his concerts. I miss him. How would he have reacted to the oil mess?
