For all the people who declare Sephiroth overrated, I think this video is actually very good in helping understand Spehiroth. We find that Sephiroth is actually very fleshed out as a character, and after seeing his friends turned into monsters and find out the possibility he is a monster who wouldn't go slightly insane?

@Bandicoot017 Crisis Core takes place for Zack's point of view. After the incident, Prof. Hojo experiment on all survivors (except Tifa) including Zack & Cloud. Zack finally wakes up & breaks out of the mako-filled test tube he was in. Then, he proceeds to get Cloud out who was suffering from being not only poisoned by the mako, but I think he was addicted to it. After they escaped, Shinra had the Turks & army after them. The army finally killed Zack & Cloud was traumtized by seeing Zack die.

So, did Cloud tell Sephiroth off-screen that Nibelheim was his hometown? I mean, I know that in Final Fantasy VII had him saying this to Cloud, but that was mostly from the fake memories of Cloud's thanks to the trauma he experienced. I was wondering because Crisis Core included Sephiroth asking about how Cloud felt about returning to his hometown, due to having no experience with such a concept due to "not having a hometown."

@Pokeria1 It's possible. Though I'd find it far more likely that Sephiroth merely did a little research on the members of his team before they left. It's possible Cloud was chosen BECAUSE he was from the area and that familiarity was found to be of possible use to the group.

All of this is conjecture of course, because like you insinuated, there is no direct reference in the game.

Well not all Cloud's memories were incorrect. He fused his past with that of Zack's. So, that part in the pickup truck where he say's it's his hometown probably still happened.

Ok, here's what I was wondering:

Was Sephiroth nearly getting controlled by Jenova? I mean, the way he was reacting in 3:27-3:45 was extremely similar to how Cloud was acting whenever Sephiroth was trying to possess him through Jenova's cells.

@Pokeria1 Jenova has no real will of its own. That was merely Sephiroth's emotions physically manifested. His shock and belief cause him to grow dizzy and momentarily lose his balance.

@kain424 Heh, ok. He just seemed to act like Cloud that time. Although I don't recall a shock-induced dizzy spell causing him to get a bit violent with Zack (he did shove him.).

Besides, technically, when Sephiroth was in the Mako Cocoon in FF7, he had no real will of his own (he was pretty much out for most of that time.)

@Pokeria1 No, that was every bit his will. He was controlling Jenova from that place, making it assume his form (which is why you keep fighting pieces of Jenova). Hojo seemed to be the only who realized this, saying it was "all Sephiroth's doing."

I mean, he KNOWS how it feels like to find out you're an experiment, but that doesn't stop him from sadisticly messing with Sephy's head at the worst possible moment. And he still has the nerve to call him 'friend'.

I think it's one of the series' great moments. It's also one of the better voice acting momnets, so that helps as well.

It's a nice scene. I think it's great that, for a moment, you can actually sympathize with Sephiroth. I found his scenes in Crises Core to be among my favorite.

I think he would believe it, at least before the Nibelheim incident... but I'm pretty sure that the first thing he'd have done upon meeting Lucrecia would've been to stab her in the stomach. Not so much for experimenting on him, but more because she never made any real efforts to contact him.
