It did have an 8 bit version but it's a little different than this one which was modeled after the Smash Bros Melee version. He likely did this on a tracker like MadTracker II or Impulse Tracker or something similar. Maybe a MIDI sequencer. It's good work. A 8 bit remix of a remix of an 8 bit original tune.
