A few other things I want to mention... Jack & Diane has yet to be released. Her performance in Mouth to Mouth was decent, but overall it wasn't crazily awesome. X-Men is not a good example of a film she should be praised for- I think it's merely a good film to have on a resume of 'styles of characters' she can perform as. And as much as I like her (which is a lot), I think that you're giving her a little too much credit to her name. Is she a great actor? Yes. The greatest ever? Uh... we'll see.

I think that while she did a great job in Juno, it's widely regarded as her "breakthrough" performance because it put her name out there into the public. Although Hard Candy was a great film, and she did an equally great job in it, it didn't garner her that success that "breaking through" is in regards toward. You have to look at it for what the term means, and not what it could mean.

Probably for Canadian audiences- no doubt. She's definitely one of the better actors to have come from Canada in the last decade. Also, was this award for best breakthrough actress a Canadian or an American award? I'd go google it but I figured you'd be able to tell me which exact one you're talking about.

Ah, yeah, that would make sense than. I wouldn't be surprised if she was well known in Canada prior to Juno's success. I guess that's why this is more of a "breakthrough" than Hard Candy or X-Men. She's made a name for herself over here in the 'States.

Ellen Page is one of the best actresses in our time. Her intelligence and maturity is one that we don't see with other actresses today. She is FUNNY and CUTE.

it's her breakthrough role because this movie is getting her the most attention and introduce her to the world and make her a celebrity. and from what people are saying, it could be her best movie she's ever been in. Her role in X-men 3 was almost a cameo, and Hard Candy and the rest of her movies weren't huge hits.
