It was rather 6 feet, or even as far away as 8 feet! At that distance, not only are gasoline fumes inert, but actually transform the sparks into sugar crystals, which can then be used to sweeten one's beverages, such as coffee or tea. Not only is he being safe, but he is actually looking out for the community by providing sugar.
