@44excalibur , i can agree that the movie was less than spectacular, i mean i stil own it for the sheer "stupid factor", but the 1980s cartoon, and the movie (87) were great. anything after that we'd have to agree to disagree. The comics from marvel (the orginal run) were freaking sweet, and i think SOME , not all , some of the last ten years worth were done quit good as well.
I think the dialog, partial direction and cybor/robo-suits were what messed most of this up. Just no room or point for any of it, as they could have made it more serious as an action film, without stupidity like the capturing via those unneeded suits.

to be fair, I always wondered why didn't Cobra just fire a missile at the Statue of Liberty during the opening sequence of the cartoon film. If they were going to launch a full scale assault, why not Washington DC, since it's down the East Coast. That whole assault on the Statue was a little too much, but BAD ASS. I love the song, COBRA!
@DKrules9 I think Cobra was just trying to be symbolic, by physically walking up to the statue of liberty, a great symbol of our country, putting explosives on it, and blowing it up. To me he was both trying to demonstrate his might publicly, and break our spirits by destroying the statue. Luckily the Joes were there to Kick his Terrorist Ass!!!
@ERod2010 I love that opening, but after watching the film many times, I can't help but analyze now. What's funny is if you listen to the audio commentary to the film on blu ray, the writer says that even he doesn't know why Cobra is attacking the Statue of Liberty, since Hasbro wanted an epic opening to the film and he delivered. He does also say if he had his way, the movie would be about Shipwreck, one of my favorite characters as well.

Zartan as the president & Mystique as Senator Kelly. Both have main villain in some secret prison, Magneto and Cobra Commander. The difference is that X-men was a better made film, but I can't hate G I Joe for trying. just ticked Scarlett isn't in the film. I love her from the old show.

I'm with you there. I am a little skeptical since it is being directed by the guy who did the Justin Bieber 3D movie. But it looks like he knows how to do action and thank god the mecha suits aren't there.

Those black Joe costumes indeed were terrible. Didn't bug me too much since turns out they only wore them for the beginning and end battles. CC mask was awful and people made jokes that Indiana Jones wants his crystal skull back. Wouldn't that be funny? Indiana Jones beating up Tommy while he's wearing that crystal skull.
Despite the film's flaws, I actually enjoyed this movie. Exception to Marlon Wayan's, I didn't have a problem with the cast. Cobra and GI Joe were just getting started, so I thought it was understandable several of them were in their mid 20s to early 30s. At least it wasn't X-men where almost everyone literally were kids.
@ERod2010 What about the fact that the nanites are completely stolen from the James Bond game Everything or Nothing, in which Willem Dafoe's character has Nanites that will destroy every weapon, vehicle and tank (just like in the demonstration). The only difference is Dafoe's Nanites won't destroy Platinum, so he plates his tanks with it so he can take over the world. At least thats the first thing that came to my mind. Stealing a plot from a video game. what a hack.
This movie's biggest problem was that it focused too much on the Joes. The focus should have been on some annoying teen and his friends/parents, with the Joes as side characters. After all that's what the Transformers movies did. That's sarcasm by the way. Awesome review!

The number one thing I hate about this movie is what happen to Cobra Commander, he looks stupid. They had two looks and they did none of them.instead a stupid hemelet that looks nothing like the original masks.
Making Baroness turn into some sort of misled victim who is actually a nice person. Srsly I'm about to puke my guts out. Baroness is supposed to be a hot bad ass bitch, that's all there is to her, a dominatrix stereotype, that's what' was great about the original character. @ERod2010 What about the fact that the nanites are completely stolen from the James Bond game Everything or Nothing, in which Willem Dafoe's character has Nanites that will destroy every weapon, vehicle and tank (just like in the demonstration). The only difference is Dafoe's Nanites won't destroy Platinum, so he plates his tanks with it so he can take over the world. At least thats the first thing that came to my mind. Stealing a plot from a video game. what a hack.

This movie's biggest problem was that it focused too much on the Joes. The focus should have been on some annoying teen and his friends/parents, with the Joes as side characters. After all that's what the Transformers movies did. That's sarcasm by the way. Awesome review!

Remember the old TV show? When I was in the army (way back in the 80's)
Kids would see my friends and I in full dress and ask if we were members of the Joes due to our General Patton inspired uniforms (division patch over our hearts not on our shoulders). This movie had DIDDLY for Americans in it.

The number one thing I hate about this movie is what happen to Cobra Commander, he looks stupid. They had two looks and they did none of them.instead a stupid hemelet that looks nothing like the original masks.

Making Baroness turn into some sort of misled victim who is actually a nice person. Srsly I'm about to puke my guts out. Baroness is supposed to be a hot bad ass bitch, that's all there is to her, a dominatrix stereotype, that's what' was great about the original character. Characters in this pile of vomit they dare to call "GI Joe the movie" not only don't look like original characters but are nothing like the original characters.

@ERod2010 Yeah I now hate the guy who played Duke,and the dude who played his partner, and the guy who played Cobra with a passion thank god they didn't use that guy for the part of the riddler and decided to go with Bane instead in the last of the new batman trilogy. If they did have it be the riddler I wouldnt have gone with Depp either probably someone with natural red hair .

@ERod2010 first of all wat does white chicks and step up have to do with their role in this movie second of all its called acelerater suits not ironman armour(they did this to beef up the action which i thought was a good idea cuz i mean who likes seeing guys shooting guns anymore)lastly u said they had their own personalties or something which i do agree with...but wat ur trying to say is to put another 45mins telling how each of them became who they are.....so yes the flash backs were needed

Another prime example of Hollywood raping my childhood. The whole matching ninja/x-men uniforms really pissed me off. I actually blame the Matrix for the whole "heroes in black" movement, but that's me.
