  • 10 points for Collin!

  • i can't tell the difference in none of these test

  • I could hear absolutely no difference on between solid state and tube. YouTube compression sucks.

  • @talledu I hear it here, just as much as I hear it on the pre (I have one). It's very subtle. It's supposed to be subtle. The difference between tubes and solid state is noticeable in a guitar amp, but in a mic preamp, it's just a difference in attack and character of the sound. If you can't hear it, don't bother, you're not alone. I only started hearing it after some years.

  • On second thought, I actually think the tube has less bass for some reason.

  • Maybe it's just me, but I can't hear a difference. You really should upload these things in HD so you get a better quality mp3.

  • Have you consider recording such a tests in HD? :]

  • I don't know. Perhaps I'm deaf. But I don't hear any evident difference between the Valve and the Transistor. I put myself with headsed as well (HD 202 Sennheiser) but nothing.

Except during the "Bass" passage there are slightly more "basses" than in Transistor. Or when you are singing Solo commuting from T to V the little difference in the ambient noise in your background.

Sorry if I'm not "marketing compliant". Anyhow it sounds great ;)

  • @iw2mln try clicking on the timeline.. and switching.. between when he has trans and then tube... you'll hear a bigger difference then.. tube sounds a warmer and more scooped.. softer high end.. .. transistor sounded boxier more aggressive in my opinion.. i didn't hear much of a difference till i did this.. its a kind of subtle change but once you begin stacking tracks the tone will become a lot more apparent.

  • @BigStudioBogota but it is exactly what I did. I don't know if YouTUBE as ruined the audio (then it's useless to publish demo in YouTUBE), but I don't hear any difference.

  • I own this. it's a fantastic preamp. For the price for a UA pre, it's not too bad.

  • I want one. sounds great. Im really thinking about the 4710 though. I just want to find out how good the converters are. On the guitar recording it sounded like your clock source was set wrong. I hear some pops.

  • nice video guys

  • Why not HD? how detailed can it possibly be in 360p..?...

  • Owen you cut your hair! Looking good

  • Will this pre amp work well with a neuman u87? HELP

  • @nune44 obviously but if u can afford a u87 u should just get a 610

  • Hey!!! I DON'T LIKE YOU. You stole my name!!! Just kidding! Awesome review. I'm looking into into getting some good tube mic preamps. What do you recommend for kick drum or snare drums? Thanks!!! BTW I REALLY like the tube setting.

  • There was some ugly clipping with the guitar through the TRION. Was that from the 710 or your interface? I would expect a tube pre to have much, much softer clips than that.

  • @gsdev1 I think it might be our FLV encoder, actually. Happens occasionally with overdriven guitar and bass, for some reason. Definitely no clipping coming from the 710, and I was monitoring while recording so I don't think it clipped at the interface either. I'll have to investigate further.

  • Good vid. the way its set up it looks like the mic pre is super huge lol but as u place your hand near it it shows its actual size :) good sound
