The "IDEA" of marriage is the important thing. As a gay person since childhood I have never been sexually attracted to women. But, I do not have the option of marrying a man. So when you discover you are gay all you can do is sleep around because the institution of marriage does not exist for us. Society does not accept it. Children are not taught the "idea" of forming a stable relationship with a person of the same sex. Why should we not have that option ?

Laws shouldn't be created based on religion. Because killing is not something God wanted either, and helloooo... right now as we speak Americans are in a war. and well killing goes on in wars. Lets not be hypocrites here...
1. If you're talking about the definiton of marriage, then your argument is stupid. Not so long ago the definiton of voter was white male but now females and different races can vote. We don't base our actions of definitions but definitons are based of off our actions. Once gay marriage is legalised the definiton will change. 2. God cannot be proven and it should have nothing to do with law as not everyone is Christian, secondly God does not endorse liars yet they can still marry.

Note that the Constitution never explicitly ensures the right to vote, as it does the right to speech, for example. It was designed such that, if you where able to vote for state legislature, then you can vote in House, or Senate elections. Thus strengthening the states power over the federal government. It is still state regulated.
What you said at the very end is by far the most important thing I've heard anyone say on this subject of late. Unfortunately, these days too many people make their decisions based purely on emotions, which often strives to not offend anyone.
One day I think there's going to come a point when people realize that society cannot function if our main objective is to not offend.

good point. However most people against gay marriage dont use that argument about gays not being able to procreate. I think they simply dont believe gay people can truly love each other, probably for their religious beliefs.
