  • Oh yea ? Are you Gullah (Geechie) ? That's pretty cool...

  • i rememeber seeing this movie when i was little this movie is my whole culture

  • The trailer alone this film looks very enticing. Its so interesting to learn about other cultures and their beliefs. Daughters of the Dust deserved all of its awards, but i thought to myself where is a sundance film of our modern culture? In 2010 The Lie screened at sundance I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt as if it gave a glimpse of the disillusionment many young americans live in here is the trailer if any1 is interested: bitly .com/r7qoag

  • one of THE most beautiful films I have EVER seen...the sound, cinematography, costumes and the characters...all stunningly beautiful

  • I've seen it twice. I don't love it the way that others do but I think it is powerful and important. One thing I must say is that the accents were all over the place and though it says it deals with African Americans, many of the characters sound Caribbean, or trying to sound Caribbean. THough there is an old man that they refer to as a heathen who came from the West Indies, the others were direct discendents of Africa, so where would these psuedo Caribbean accents come from?

I found that odd.

  • Stagevu is 1 of the best movie sites online! (& Rapidshare is good too) I respect the whole "copyright" thing & all that, & my personal video library consists of 3,000+ (legally obtained/purchased H/&DVD, Blueray, (a few laser-disks), VHS, & .avi/DIVX, etc. @ Stagevu I have found certain movies that are unobtainable elsewhere. I've found films not yet released to home video (VHS Rips, TV Rips, etc). I am all for "buying" them outright, but if studios won't release them, then I say F&#%'em!

  • @gjc82071 I agree...

  • @gjc82071 This movie has been remastered in high definition is you wish to buy a copy.

I think it would be excellent to see it in high def...

  • @gjc82071 can you message me the title of some of the gems you've found through stagevu - some animated stuff and also hostorical, educational, fictional - esp. pertaining to the black experience and such... please - or just list the titles here.

  • @y0nNeTte What are you looking for exactly? Nearly all of what I've found was through search. Stagevu doesn't have a movies list, you have to search for'em. What I normally do is type in the search field, the name of a specific movie or more often, type in a year, say 1975. The results yield numerous movies made in 1975 that are available there. Try that. If you are looking for something specific, let me know. BTW, Stagevu has quite a few blaxploitation flicks. (Shaft, Superfly, etc)

  • full movie =)

  • there should be a LOVE button for this! the black new wave of cinema will be inspired by this film, as well as C. Burnett's Killer of Sheep. And believe me, the black new wave is ON ITS WAY!!!!!!

  • @willsand11 I agree it was a great movie. It is not quite as old as Killer of Sheep (1977) ; which I've never seen. But I will try to check it out since you mentioned it and it looks quite interesting on the IMDB.

  • There is a high definition version available.

    I believe it has captions....

  • This really is a good movie. It's amazing how they were able to retain so much of their African culture as opposed to other African Americans.

  • My aunt is in this movie. Loved it!

  • Which one is your aunt ?

  • She played the character holding the baby for most of the individual scenes and had on a all white dress.

  • @Civilrightstoday1

It's not amazing. There is a reason.

  • You should upload the whole movie on youtube

  • lol...if I had it, I might consider it.

  • woah! ive been there :D same beaches and stufff

  • Everyone who has seen this movie really likes it. It's such a shame that Julie Dash has never been given the opportunity to make another feature film.

  • It's a very good movie. Have you seen it ?

  • Indeed I have.

  • i think she has? she's made several.

  • Thank you soo much! This gives a great synopsis!

  • Have you ever seen the movie ? I hear there is a high definition version out now...
