I see so many people every day who are basically immobile, the sole reason appears to be they are FATBUCKETS. Also the amount of people in this country who abuse drugs/alcohol/food, has to be one of the highest in the world. Maybe the government should encourage insurance companies to give BIG discounts to their insured clients, for meeting certain health markers (weight, bp, nonsmoker,etc).

I have been there, everything is heavily taxed, costs of living are high. You don't get it, small European countries only have like 40 million people we have 300 million, it is totally different. Also we have the best Quality HC in the world because of competition in the market, government will kill competition because they don't have to make a profit and profit is a motivator to be the best.

A study to be released Thursday highlights the stark contrast between what the United States spends on its health system and the quality of care it delivers, especially when compared with many other industrialized nations.
For one thing i never said the American system was without faults, clearly it has problems. The quality is one of the best and what we are the BEST at by far is the medical inventions and technology and cures, why are we the best in this area? because people make money off of it. Profit is a big motivator to do better.
The point is thinking Government is going to do a better job with HC is just plain naive.
How is denying people health care a motivation to do better. Remember they're insurance companies, they move money around with computers. There's not much, if at all more for them to do. And they get to keep your money if they tell you no, yeah there's the real motivation. You lack focus, the problem isn't Health Care but Health Care Insurance. And prove to me when the insurance companies profits ever made the quality of life any better, based on how they make profits

Having the government who can barely deliver the mail or run the DMV, i do not know of anything that they actually run well. I support our system here, why do you think none of the major political parties in Canada have gettng rid of Universal Health Care as part of their agenda? We left Europe for a reason, going back to their type of system = failure. As for research, Canada does quite well, for example in cancer: In 2006 the FASEB Journal which is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology found Canadian researchers ranked first in the world when the study’s authors looked at the number of top scientific articles published relative to the amount of money spent on research. @AboveBelowBetween, People get HC here despite having insurance or not, a hospital cannot deny you if you are having problems and there are all kinds of free clinics and assistance programs so its not like you are totally screwed if you don't have it. i am not saying Canadian HC is horrible when you are young and healthy it is great but i know that for example getting a hip replacement could take years there when you can get it here in a week. Plus here the government sucks at running programs
@JLaw012 I am Canadian, I got hip replacement at 50 due to a medical condition. Now there were some who were in worse shape than me so went ahead of me so I waited about a year, but I got my hip replacement. I put up with some pain but so what I did not have to worry about losing my house etc because of my health needs and was glad that those more in need went ahead of me. So anyway I am so glad I am living in Canada and not the USA but you guys pick the system you want, I am glad for ours.

I think we should give people what the gov't has... thrift savings plan for retirement and a litany of excellent health plans to CHOOSE from (I had the North American Letter Carriers plan... and didn't have to work for the post office... pretty nice). Interestingly, I noticed medicare was an option AND was rated lowest in all areas measured by customers when I was choosing my plan. I could go on, but I get so few characters. I agree that the government shouldn't be involved. But the fact is that Big Buisness runs everything and is so powerful that half fixes won't fix anything. If they're isn't a public option then the health care companies will keep raising premiums until we are all choked out ...and if you don't believe me look at the past. Premiums have risen 4 times faster then inflation. They will do what the oil companies have done ...lower it for awhile and then when every ones slping raise it back up again.
I think that you're wrong, there ARE better choices than universal health care. The insurance industry is heavily regulated at both the state and federal levels. Much of this regulation shields these companies from the forces of the free market. We could do what the Dutch did, if we prefer a European example, deregulate the industry and make the industry so ultracompetitive that any company who doesn't offer good plans, good service, and good prices, will go out of business.
You're speaking a 1/2 truth. There are many non-profit choices among insurance providers. Clearly that is not the issue. By the way, if excessive profit for insurance companies bothers you, I'd get out my protest signs. A major component of the current "Obama plan" is to require every American to have health insurance. If I were an activist, I'd consider again what will and won't work, who is getting screwed, and then find quality alternatives to what is proposed here by Moore and in congress.

Ameritards, in general, are one of the most undisciplined when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle. I see so many people every day who are basically immobile, the sole reason appears to be they are FATBUCKETS. Also the amount of people in this country who abuse drugs/alcohol/food, has to be one of the highest in the world. Maybe the government should encourage insurance companies to give BIG discounts to their insured clients, for meeting certain health markers (weight, bp, nonsmoker,etc).

When 1/10th of Americans (and growing) is being subsidized on surgery/drugs (35% of spending is on 'disease management) for diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions because people can't manage their diet/exercise, any system falls apart.
Canada just happens to be spread out like the midwest. But Obesity eventually swept over Utah and it will to Canada as well.

I have been there, everything is heavily taxed, costs of living are high. You don't get it, small European countries only have like 40 million people we have 300 million, it is totally different. As for research, Canada does quite well, for example in cancer: In 2006 the FASEB Journal which is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology found Canadian researchers ranked first in the world when the study’s authors looked at the number of top scientific articles published relative to the amount of money spent on research. @AboveBelowBetween, People get HC here despite having insurance or not, a hospital cannot deny you if you are having problems and there are all kinds of free clinics and assistance programs so its not like you are totally screwed if you don't have it. i am not saying Canadian HC is horrible when you are young and healthy it is great but i know that for example getting a hip replacement could take years there when you can get it here in a week. Plus here the government sucks at running programs

@JLaw012 I am Canadian, I got hip replacement at 50 due to a medical condition. Now there were some who were in worse shape than me so went ahead of me so I waited about a year, but I got my hip replacement. I put up with some pain but so what I did not have to worry about losing my house etc because of my health needs and was glad that those more in need went ahead of me. So anyway I am so glad I am living in Canada and not the USA but you guys pick the system you want, I am glad for ours.

I think we should give people what the gov't has... thrift savings plan for retirement and a litany of excellent health plans to CHOOSE from (I had the North American Letter Carriers plan... and didn't have to work for the post office... pretty nice). Interestingly, I noticed medicare was an option AND was rated lowest in all areas measured by customers when I was choosing my plan. I could go on, but I get so few characters. I'm no right winger, I just know that this will end badly.

Most Americans will agree that something needs to be done, but it also seems that a majority do not want single payer insurance, either. I'm among them. It isn't necessary. There are so many options that are better for everyone in the end. I'm so tired of listening to the self righteous parroting of ll the sock puppets on TV, the radio, youtube, etc. How about an option that is TRUELY about what provides the best care at an affordable price? I agree that the government shouldn't be involved. But the fact is that Big Buisness runs everything and is so powerful that half fixes won't fix anything. If they're isn't a public option then the health care companies will keep raising premiums until we are all choked out ...and if you don't believe me look at the past. Premiums have risen 4 times faster then inflation. They will do what the oil companies have done ...lower it for awhile and then when every ones slping raise it back up again.

I think that you're wrong, there ARE better choices than universal health care. The insurance industry is heavily regulated at both the state and federal levels. Much of this regulation shields these companies from the forces of the free market. We could do what the Dutch did, if we prefer a European example, deregulate the industry and make the industry so ultracompetitive that any company who doesn't offer good plans, good service, and good prices, will go out of business.

You're speaking a 1/2 truth. There are many non-profit choices among insurance providers. Clearly that is not the issue. By the way, if excessive profit for insurance companies bothers you, I'd get out my protest signs. A major component of the current "Obama plan" is to require every American to have health insurance. If I were an activist, I'd consider again what will and won't work, who is getting screwed, and then find quality alternatives to what is proposed here by Moore and in congress.
