CRAZY. I haven't played or thought about this game in 5-6 years and watching this video brought all that bittersweet emotion back in a heartbeat, what a great ending.
To add a lil bit of epicness into this game,they could've made a secret ending where Squall was alive.The normal ending would just end as the recording would end,while the secret ending was Rinoa was actually together with Squall and the fans would go "YAY!He's still alive!!!! T.T"
My Disc 4 just -had- to quit playing this video right when Quistis appeared... -SO- glad I could just come here and watch what I missed, and it's a wonderful ending - I feel I earned it for defeating Ultimecia's four forms.
Just seeing Squall smiling.. Actually happy.. (And alive, oh god, I went years not knowing he survived until last year !!) The perfect game, (and the perfect storyline), by far, Screw CoD, Final Fantasy VIII forever !! =D <3<3 xxxxxxxx
I always felt this was a great ending. Some people disliked FF8, it definitely had some problems, but I felt it was a great FF game overall. The story got a little dumb once they introduced Ultimecia, and there were some plotholes, but couldn't beat the graphics and designs back then. Awesome GF's and spells. I can easily say 6/7/8 were my most beloved FF's.
@arkainjalex12 I don't think there were any plotholes, I just think that the story got a little too complex near the end. Most everyone thinks that memory loss thing is pretty stupid, so do I, but the same thing happened in FF7 so it's not really any big shocker. The biggest problem with the game was that it was too easy though. If you stocked up on magic and knew how to junction right the game was a breeze.
I would have enjoyed this ending more...if I didn't harbor an undying hatred for Rinoa throughout the game. I adore all the other characters though and the part with the video camera was adorable. :) I also love Seifer...I'm just wondering how he got off scott free. =/

Jeez! I beat the game, and it freezes on me during the credits! I was like "Hell no your not cheating me out of my ending!" So then I just went to you tube and looked it up! :)
I just don't but the squall is dead theory... I mean, the logo of the game is them embracing, and the game is all about the love story, so why would he die and that never really happen? It's an interesting theory, but i'm not buying it...
I think they succeeded and now they get to happily be together.
Watching this ending after reading on a theory about FF8 makes me rethink that the theory might be true after all. Squall dies at the end of disc 1 and disc 2-3 are what he sees flashing before his eyes for him to make sense of and explain all that happens in disc 1. The post-Ultimecia FMV is Heaven.
The credits FMV is what actually happened (notice Squall isn't in the video recorded events), and after the battery dies what we see is Squall in his heaven again.
naah i think Squall isnt on the video pecause they want to imply that there is more after the credits (when they kiss each other). did you notice that Rinoa points her finger before the battery ends? it was a sign that Squall is nearby. now he cant be a ghost nor it can be a flashback if thats what you mean as in Disc 1 he first encounters Rinoa (as he doesnt know her name in the 2nd) whereas in the 3rd he saves her from dying. so he is alive and the events are in a right order
If Squall really died at the end of disc 1, then she could have been out on the balcony with anyone, even Seifer. Remember all through disc 1 Rinoa makes references to liking (even maybe loving) Seifer.

According to the theory, all of the events of discs 2-4 are the "life flashing before your eyes" effect combined with his brain trying to piece together what all of that information meant (why is Seifer serving Edea? why is Seifer even alive? what gave Edea her mysterious powers?).
So anything that happens in discs 2-4 doesn't really prove that the giant ice shard doesn't kill him. That being said, Squall being dead is just a theory supported by some evidence.
well dunno but also the Garden is flying in the 2-4 discs whereas in disc 1 is stable.also seifer was moved from personal greed as he was left out from the SeeD stuff.Rinoa loved him yeah but she changed her mind after all this stuff happened.After Seifer tried to save them in TImber Ultimecia spared his life because he followed her in to accomplish his dream and maybe because she wanted to use him for killing Squall as she knew her death by him would be inevitable.
anyway to end this, ill read this thing :P but to tell the truth i like following the original story with the happy ending and all these stuff. Who cares, its only a game but i love seeing it ending well

I got stuck on Adel, like REALLY stuck, so I ended up watching all the scenes from there to here on Youtube. I feel kind of bad about not actually beating it, but now I don't really need to. Not to mention watching it made me realize I never really COULD beat it as I was anyway....
Gamefaqs. I recommend beating it yourself, as it will now be YOUR story. I don't want you to miss out on it. Trust me, it comes from personal experience. There's a helluva lot more worthy moments that are not in the CG's themselves.
Speaking of "YOUR story", FF10 deserves a worthy mention too. Sure, FF8 was my first FF, my first jRPG, my first RPG on the PS1, and my PS1 was the first console I myself owned. There's only 1 first time, and the magic of that enhances that of FF8.
But for being "The Fourth", FF10 gripped me like no other. Where as FF8 was the traditional White Knight Fairytale, FF10 was the bittersweet melodrama, with completely unexpected twists that still managed to be all nicely wrapped up by the end of the game. FF10 made me think and rethink much more than FF8 did.
And the main characters could be said to be complete opposites: Squall was the silent loner who got a happy ending, and Tidus was the cheerful lughead who ultimately ceased to even exist. You could let FF8 go, as hard as it may be, because you know that the characters had a full and happy ending. You will always think about FF10, because while Spira got its peace, it was anything but a happy ending for our heroes.

ff 8 just pioneered quality rpg xperience. plus the ending sure save the best for the last, perfect and satisfying that you wont feel the need for a "new game+" I give a bow
For me, someone that has played every final fantasy from nintendo to PS2 I can say that this game can be labeled as life altering. With all the emotional cinematics and music we all have watched, this is the only game I can say that has made people finally feel in harmony. Everyone that has played final fantasy can tell you that there have been countless times that you (the player) would want to cry during a sceen. Nice work guys. Nice work.
since final fantasy 8 is my first game that ive played on my PS , thats also the reason why i continue playing FF series , eventhough most of the new ones doesnt have a beatiful ending like FF8 but still i like them all .
A perfect ending to a perfect game. It gave us that fairy tale ending that we really wanted. Even Seifer got his redemption and peace.
FF8 is about the only RPG that immersed me so much that I felt like I was there with everyone, every step of the way. From the first dance, to the rush to mobilized B. Garden, to the walk across the bridge with Rinoa on Squall's back, and finally, this.
It's sad to say goodbye to such a nice fantasy, but at least this provides you with a happy closure.
I know, I couldn't agree more. Especially the last line. I beat this game for the first time about a week ago and I'm still re watching the ending, listening to the songs, and trying to relive the experience. I don't think I'm ever going to be this attached to a video game again, and it sucks that it's all over.
well in Final Fantasy X, they gave the characters have more asian features, and put them in a more "eastern-ish" fantasy as opposed to a western one. (:

Yes, I want them to add in voice acting for 8 and make it a PS2 game, because my PS2 can't handle PS1 games for some reason, so I never got a chance to play FFVIII grrrrr. I still have the game, I just can't play it.
What i want to see is complete upgrade on all the Final Fantasy games up to FFX. With the technology out there now there isn't any reason not to remake them all. With voice-acting, and a completely new battle system out there now that has become popular now. And i know everyone wants to take control of all those chars in a action style gameplay.

I think honestly the Ultimecia/Rinoa plot is the true plot in FF8. Not to say I don'r believe the Ultimania, but you gotta think bout this: The game goes deep into Time Compression. To say that Rinoa is Ultimecia in the future is kind of stupid but imagine if Ultimecia is Rinoa and Squall's descendant.
Wow, of all the times I've seen this (playing and just watching), I've never noticed this: At 2:48 Angelo is clearly out by the balcony being a creeper, er, watching Rinoa. But later, around 3:33, he's gone, even though he should clearly be there. What'd'ya thing? Animators just didn't want to create a model for something which would old have a three second role?
That was never implied in the game. Read the Ultimania for FF8 he DID NOT DIE.
But one thing i do wanna point is this. Rinoa BEING Ultimecia would make the story so much better than it is. That one plot point would rank FF8 above FF7 IMO

Ok. Do you ever hear their voices at all while you're playing the game? I don't have it yet, but every video I have seen here, they are talking, but there is no voice. Is it the same way with the game itself?
one of the more interesting ones ive heard of says that squall actually died early in the game, back when edea threw the icesickle through his chest, and that the rest of the story is really all in his mind in the last moments of his life as he is dying.
when you think about it, it does seem kinda wierd that squall got stabbed, but no scars or nothing. i mean he was in the infirmory at the beginning of the game for a knife wound, so we know squall isnt superhuman or anything.
the game is designed for you to make up your own mind about the story (either that or there were just alot of plot holes). I've heard of alot of different theories/ideas of the game

In the last segment, we get to see something rarer than a four-leaf clover or the Raj Diamond. We get to see Squall smile. I love this ending segment. Even the soundtrack was beautifully done. Thanks for sharing this.
squall is alive! just watch closely at 2:48-2:50 when irvine pointed the camera to rinoa, the whole balcony can't be seen because of the wall that covered the right side of the balcony and they ran out of battery. lastly, rinoa made the same gesture that she did before the battery ran out then, you can see squall beside her at the right side of the balcony.. that proves that his alive! haha..
Edea was never on the Garden the entire game, and never dressed like she did when she ran the orphanage in the present time (only in flashbacks). This deffinately is after time compression ended and ultima was defeated
Obviously, it takes place after Ultimecia is defeated. Everyone returns to their own time, but there are some changes; for instance, Cid's wife (Edea) is there with him at the celebration, whom he introduces to Quistis on the tape.
And the school is still flying, which means it's obviously some time after Squall activates Garden's mobility.

Speaking of "YOUR story", FF10 deserves a worthy mention too. Sure, FF8 was my first FF, my first jRPG, my first RPG on the PS1, and my PS1 was the first console I myself owned. There's only 1 first time, and the magic of that enhances that of FF8.

But for being "The Fourth", FF10 gripped me like no other. Where as FF8 was the traditional White Knight Fairytale, FF10 was the bittersweet melodrama, with completely unexpected twists that still managed to be all nicely wrapped up by the end of the game. FF10 made me think and rethink much more than FF8 did.

And the main characters could be said to be complete opposites: Squall was the silent loner who got a happy ending, and Tidus was the cheerful lughead who ultimately ceased to even exist. You could let FF8 go, as hard as it may be, because you know that the characters had a full and happy ending. You will always think about FF10, because while Spira got its peace, it was anything but a happy ending for our heroes.

It's actually one of the main themes of Final Fantasy that has been around since FF1. They usually hold the song off until the credits now though.

For me, someone that has played every final fantasy from nintendo to PS2 I can say that this game can be labeled as life altering. With all the emotional cinematics and music we all have watched, this is the only game I can say that has made people finally feel in harmony. Everyone that has played final fantasy can tell you that there have been countless times that you (the player) would want to cry during a sceen. Nice work guys. Nice work.

A perfect ending to a perfect game. It gave us that fairy tale ending that we really wanted. Even Seifer got his redemption and peace.
FF8 is about the only RPG that immersed me so much that I felt like I was there with everyone, every step of the way. From the first dance, to the rush to mobilized B. Garden, to the walk across the bridge with Rinoa on Squall's back, and finally, this.
It's sad to say goodbye to such a nice fantasy, but at least this provides you with a happy closure.

I know, I couldn't agree more. Especially the last line. I beat this game for the first time about a week ago and I'm still re watching the ending, listening to the songs, and trying to relive the experience. I don't think I'm ever going to be this attached to a video game again, and it sucks that it's all over.

Yes, I want them to add in voice acting for 8 and make it a PS2 game, because my PS2 can't handle PS1 games for some reason, so I never got a chance to play FFVIII grrrrr. I still have the game, I just can't play it.

What i want to see is complete upgrade on all the Final Fantasy games up to FFX. With the technology out there now there isn't any reason not to remake them all. With voice-acting, and a completely new battle system out there now that has become popular now. And i know everyone wants to take control of all those chars in a action style gameplay.

I think honestly the Ultimecia/Rinoa plot is the true plot in FF8. Not to say I don'r believe the Ultimania, but you gotta think bout this: The game goes deep into Time Compression. To say that Rinoa is Ultimecia in the future is kind of stupid but imagine if Ultimecia is Rinoa and Squall's descendant.

Wow, of all the times I've seen this (playing and just watching), I've never noticed this: At 2:48 Angelo is clearly out by the balcony being a creeper, er, watching Rinoa. But later, around 3:33, he's gone, even though he should clearly be there. What'd'ya thing? Animators just didn't want to create a model for something which would old have a three second role?

That was never implied in the game. Read the Ultimania for FF8 he DID NOT DIE.
But one thing i do wanna point is this. Rinoa BEING Ultimecia would make the story so much better than it is. That one plot point would rank FF8 above FF7 IMO

There are no voice-overs in the game at all. Final Fantasy X is the first FF with voices, so anything before that is just text dialogue.

one of the more interesting ones ive heard of says that squall actually died early in the game, back when edea threw the icesickle through his chest, and that the rest of the story is really all in his mind in the last moments of his life as he is dying.
when you think about it, it does seem kinda wierd that squall got stabbed, but no scars or nothing. i mean he was in the infirmory at the beginning of the game for a knife wound, so we know squall isnt superhuman or anything.

squall is alive! just watch closely at 2:48-2:50 when irvine pointed the camera to rinoa, the whole balcony can't be seen because of the wall that covered the right side of the balcony and they ran out of battery. lastly, rinoa made the same gesture that she did before the battery ran out then, you can see squall beside her at the right side of the balcony.. that proves that his alive! haha..

Edea was never on the Garden the entire game, and never dressed like she did when she ran the orphanage in the present time (only in flashbacks). This deffinately is after time compression ended and ultima was defeated

Obviously, it takes place after Ultimecia is defeated. Everyone returns to their own time, but there are some changes; for instance, Cid's wife (Edea) is there with him at the celebration, whom he introduces to Quistis on the tape.
And the school is still flying, which means it's obviously some time after Squall activates Garden's mobility.
