@sharkzf6 its much safer when you have to decock a revolver that has an internal saftey as you now, it takes little pressure to set of a cartridge! saying that, the best saftey is to engage brain before handling a firearm! I own a taurus m44 ! very smooth, nice finish and tight lockwork, however, the taurus doesnt quite compare to the smith !
Saw one of these in a gun shop/range today… boy was it a beauty! Had the original grips too. Is $539 too much for it or just right? And of what relation is it to the 686?
@Coolbill34 - If it's in good shape that's a fair price. The 686 is stainless steel and is a newer model. In fact, you can still buy a new 686 Smith. From a shooters perspective it's the same gun...
@Coolbill34 FYI...Just purchased a 1982 model 586 in near pristine condition with the mirror finish nickle plate. Bought it from a dealer at a gun show in Orlando for $450. Came with a hard case (not original) and 2 grips. The deals are out there. Be patient and keep your eyes open.
@SadisticMagician110 - The grips are Pachmayr for square butt S&W. I don't know the model number and I don't think they make these any longer. Check e-Bay.
@heintron - the dash numbers on Smith & Wesson revolvers reflect engineering changes. For example, the -3 on this 586 indicates a change made in 1988 that utilized a different yoke retention system. Another example is -2, introduced in 1987 that indicates a new hammer design. Thanks for watching...
@serialkilla94 - I traded a slightly used Beretta 92 for this weapon. It is an "L" frame square butt revolver circa late 80's in excellent condition. Rarely fired by the original owner I'm very satisfied I got the better end of that trade ;) thanks for watchin
Such a great gun smith and wesson is producing then again

I have a 586 6 inch no dash made in 1981 . I love it .

Only revolver I know of with a safety is a Heritage Rough Rider.
Anyway, nice vid. I've got a 586, and love it just as much. IMO it'll go point to point with any revolver made.

Just wondering, but do revolvers usually have a safety?
slipknot2302 7 months ago
@slipknot2302 - No. I've never seen a revolver with a safety. Thanks for watching.

I have one exactly like that one, same grips and all.Great shooter! in fact those Pachmayrs are much better for heavy .357 magnum loads.

What does the -3 in the name indicate? I am looking to buy a 586-4 myself with a 7" barrel.
