Wow I look and look and look for a snail in my yard with a shell more then a cm in diameter and you get like 20 huge ones but feed them to stupid fucking chickens lol
i really want to be apart of the business so if the is anyway you can source some information to me i would be thank full in every way. i can be contacted at this email address.... longlov4life@gmail.com
Not cruel at all for several reasons. First, these snails were in your yard/garden they were eating your vegetables and garbage. They're a parasitic creature in your area and if you had your chickens free-range the chickens would have eaten them all anyway. Second, you can buy snails killed in much worse ways than this, slowly dieing drowned in a chemical or ripped from their shell and left to die. Third, if people didnt do things like this the population would become un managable.
snails are very old creachers for millions of year have been around and there are thousands of parasites that are feed on them so better not feed them to your chicken
i live in the usa, and i have 5 chickens in the backyard and they loooooooooove snails...
when the weather is wettish, i collect them out front and feed them to my chickens. they go crazy over them...devouring them. thing i have to do though, is i have to toss them up in the air and let them crack on the patio cement.
this helps the chickens get to the 'meat'...and it's pretty funny to watch too.
thanks for the video...i thought i was the only one!
cruelty is a pretty important word, it shouldnt be watered down just because of normal things that happen on the farm. we use cruel as a word to describe real tragedy in this world, for things which we want to end like child abuse and dog fighting. what your doing is no worse then what people do with crickets or feeder fish to feed their pets in the city. except your chickens are likely a food source so its far more practical purposes. i'm sure the chickens were happy with the meals.
I dont think its cruel, your protecting your food and giving the chickens some good protein. But..... our snails here in the U.K were imported by the Greeks for our food as well and the same as the french escargot helix which is nearly extinct. put a few on a diet of salad and eat a few yourself after looking into some recipes.
If you have enough room to breed them your chickens will have an endless supply and..... look how much snail eggs go for.
you should farm the snails too you would get a lot more snail and where in this would are you so that you can have chicken in your back yard wow and yes it is curel hahahaha
my chooks free range and eat snails they love them! I am planning to establish a snail farm myself it is a natural way to farm , i like it :) I look forward to viewing more of your vids .
Many things with keeping animals for livestock to pets can be viewed as cruel but necessary. I think this was a good way to get rid of a pest and you'll notice a difference in your eggs. I'm enjoying your humor as well as the whole process.
ok maybe it is a little cruel, but nature is cruel and I was just encouraging nature in a direction that was more productive by disposing of pest by feeding them to productive animals.
what the hell do you mean, oh its not cruel becuase other wise i wouldnt be doing it! it is cruel and you just did it derr!!!!! but if its something you want to do then dont actually mention anything to do with feeding them to chickens!
take the cup or pitcher youare going to use for snail catching & dip the rim into water then into a saucer of salt. Just like you would do for a magarita! Then then will just stay away from the rim of the container!
i dint fully wathc the vidoe but can you tell me how long does it take for the snaisl to grow so i can put them in with my stupid gold fish taht tried to eat it
One simple way to use up all the snails, AND to cut your chicken food costs is to toss the snails into a plastic container with a tight lid. Toss the container in the freezer overnight. In the morning remove the snails, whack them all with a rock to crunch them into small pieces. The chickens will eat them easily AND the shells of the snails are a great source of calcium for the chickens. They need calcium to produce the shells for the eggs, otherwise they may eat their own eggs.
Not at all cruel...I've got several fly traps around and the chickens love the flies...more bugs=healthier chickens and less cash spent on feed...Tomato Hornworms get pitched in the pen too!
I would have eaten them myself, it's not at all cruel, snails have very primitive nervous systems and I don't think they experience any kind of fear or pain being eaten.
It is not cruel. When is wet here in Spain, as some times is :D I pick up some slugs, and worms and give them to my hedgehogs - yummy! They seem not to like snails.
It is not cruel. My family has raised free range chickens before it was "in". We used some for meat and some for eggs. It is their natural forage. I have even seen them eating a frog they pecked to death at the edge of are pond. The rooster will attack, peck and eat anything it can catch. I mean anything, including me if it could get away with it.
Feeding snails to the chickens definately is not cruel. It's good for your garden and saves you a bit of money. I know some pig farmers that grind up some animal leftovers and put it into the pig feed. So what you are doing is no way cruel in my mind : )
aw ur sooo sweet!! u care sooo much fr da snails n da chickens!! AW ur a very sweet givin person!! very good job!! can't wait to see hw fat da snails got so da chickens can eat dem!! LOL!! lov it!!♥muhaa♥ =0Þ
Not cruel at all! It's actually very environmentally-conscious! Instead of using pesticides on your crop & instead of giving processed feed to your chickens, you're killing two birds with one stone, so to speak!
Thanks for sharing your video... one comment. Are the snails you are harvesting native or invasive species? You might want to remove invasive species and keep natives --they play an important role in the natural biodiversity mix. I've linked to your video on BackyardNature DOT com
i put beer down in tubs. the snails and slugs love that over the veges and they die drunk - i think thats probably the best way to go dont u? (then u can feed them to ur chickens and they get tipsy too) lol
It may be more humain to plung the snails in hot water killing quick. then store them in a container in the freezer. Then you would have a year round supply.
Great idea! You might also want to box a few up & try selling them on ebay - there are lots of places that don't get snails & everything sells on ebay!

As for feeding snails to the hens: If the chickens were running free range, they would be eating snails on their own. As it is, they have you, their own personal snail catcher. My chickens are free range and LOVE earwigs.
Feed the chickens the snails. In France, escargot ( snails ) are a delicacy and the French palate for snails is enormous. It's not cruel in the least to feed bugs to chickens. Birds eat bugs, it's what they do.
