  • Wow I look and look and look for a snail in my yard with a shell more then a cm in diameter and you get like 20 huge ones but feed them to stupid fucking chickens lol

  • Great video. Can you check out my snail farm? I have about 2000 new baby snails.

  • It's freak'n Harry potter.

I thought your had an actual snail farm.

    Nice vid HP.

  • Lions eat men in the wild....

  • Not cruel at all for several reasons. First, these snails were in your yard/garden they were eating your vegetables and garbage. They're a parasitic creature in your area and if you had your chickens free-range the chickens would have eaten them all anyway. Second, you can buy snails killed in much worse ways than this, slowly dieing drowned in a chemical or ripped from their shell and left to die. Third, if people didnt do things like this the population would become un managable.

  • It is not bad if you kill a cupel

  • snails are very old creachers for millions of year have been around and there are thousands of parasites that are feed on them so better not feed them to your chicken

  • Do they just pluck out the shells and eat the snail/slug part? Hahaha and that was kinda nastyyyy.:PLove your vids though

  • u suck u fuck killing animals feed ur dick 2 ur chickens

  • attention, those snails have parasitic platworms. The name is 'leverboth' and not good for you chickens

  • Snails are delicious in a red sauce over linguine

  • Just eat them dude, youre chickens can have garbage from the kitchen.

Worst of all is the smal cage for the chickens...

  • In Portugal we eat them and drink beer, very tasty :)

  • i live in the usa, and i have 5 chickens in the backyard and they loooooooooove snails...

when the weather is wettish, i collect them out front and feed them to my chickens. they go crazy over them...devouring them. thing i have to do though, is i have to toss them up in the air and let them crack on the patio cement.

this helps the chickens get to the 'meat'...and it's pretty funny to watch too.

thanks for the video...i thought i was the only one!

  • i have baby snails in a small container... i want them to grow -_-

  • cruelty is a pretty important word, it shouldnt be watered down just because of normal things that happen on the farm. we use cruel as a word to describe real tragedy in this world, for things which we want to end like child abuse and dog fighting. what your doing is no worse then what people do with crickets or feeder fish to feed their pets in the city. except your chickens are likely a food source so its far more practical purposes. i'm sure the chickens were happy with the meals.

  • I dont think its cruel, your protecting your food and giving the chickens some good protein. But..... our snails here in the U.K were imported by the Greeks for our food as well and the same as the french escargot helix which is nearly extinct. put a few on a diet of salad and eat a few yourself after looking into some recipes.

If you have enough room to breed them your chickens will have an endless supply and..... look how much snail eggs go for.

    peace

  • Some people just cook and eat the Snails.

    Do you eat them?

  • who gives a shit!!!!

  • you are all saying that its cruel, how the hell is cruel.

  • I hope all the folk shouting here that its cruel to eat snails are lifelong vegans, either that or they are hypocritical morons.

  • Poor little boogers :( how harsh! Let them live not suffer!!

  • you should farm the snails too you would get a lot more snail and where in this would are you so that you can have chicken in your back yard wow and yes it is curel hahahaha

  • buy self few ducks and the problem solved

  • my chooks free range and eat snails they love them! I am planning to establish a snail farm myself it is a natural way to farm , i like it :) I look forward to viewing more of your vids .

  • Many things with keeping animals for livestock to pets can be viewed as cruel but necessary. I think this was a good way to get rid of a pest and you'll notice a difference in your eggs. I'm enjoying your humor as well as the whole process.

  • chickens love snails.

  • i don't think it is cruel.

  • MEAN ! -_-

  • how is mean

  • I'm not sure snails are a problem in the garden...they eat dead plants.....slugs however...

  • ok maybe it is a little cruel, but nature is cruel and I was just encouraging nature in a direction that was more productive by disposing of pest by feeding them to productive animals.

  • good job

  • @GivingItAGo productive animals u use the chickens 2 eat i wish icould feed u dick face 2 my dog

  • what the hell do you mean, oh its not cruel becuase other wise i wouldnt be doing it! it is cruel and you just did it derr!!!!! but if its something you want to do then dont actually mention anything to do with feeding them to chickens!

  • lol my light brahma was the first to eat worms/slugs as well.

  • take the cup or pitcher youare going to use for snail catching & dip the rim into water then into a saucer of salt. Just like you would do for a magarita! Then then will just stay away from the rim of the container!

  • good idea!

  • i dint fully wathc the vidoe but can you tell me how long does it take for the snaisl to grow so i can put them in with my stupid gold fish taht tried to eat it

  • no its not

  • IT IS NOT KREWL!

  • Where do you find them? When's the best "snail" catching time?

  • u guz have inspired me to get chickens of my own.

  • Where do you live

    Those snails are big

  • One simple way to use up all the snails, AND to cut your chicken food costs is to toss the snails into a plastic container with a tight lid. Toss the container in the freezer overnight. In the morning remove the snails, whack them all with a rock to crunch them into small pieces. The chickens will eat them easily AND the shells of the snails are a great source of calcium for the chickens. They need calcium to produce the shells for the eggs, otherwise they may eat their own eggs.

  • It's not cruel in the least to feed bugs to chickens. Birds eat bugs, it's what they do.

  • Maybe they are too crunchy for the chickens. Try running the snails in a blender really quick... just to soften them up first. ;)

  • You have some really noisy neighbors.

  • Not at all cruel...I've got several fly traps around and the chickens love the flies...more bugs=healthier chickens and less cash spent on feed...Tomato Hornworms get pitched in the pen too!

  • Are you marinating chicken with Cargoles

mm mm those chickens must be good too!!

a lilttle bit of garlic salt black pepper

julivert, olive oli , cayenne, and up up you go!! am mexican american and my husband is from catalonia so I learned to eat some..I love it!!

  • I would have eaten them myself, it's not at all cruel, snails have very primitive nervous systems and I don't think they experience any kind of fear or pain being eaten.

  • Life= we eat, chickens eat, snails eat. Be some good chicken

  • lol nice one

  • It is not cruel. When is wet here in Spain, as some times is :D I pick up some slugs, and worms and give them to my hedgehogs - yummy! They seem not to like snails.

  • It is not cruel. My family has raised free range chickens before it was "in". We used some for meat and some for eggs. It is their natural forage. I have even seen them eating a frog they pecked to death at the edge of are pond. The rooster will attack, peck and eat anything it can catch. I mean anything, including me if it could get away with it.

  • looks at my video "vita contadina" turned in the garden of Tina

  • where do the 800 people come from who type in chickens slugs snails to watch this video!?!?!?

  • that's fine dining!

  • Feeding snails to the chickens definately is not cruel. It's good for your garden and saves you a bit of money. I know some pig farmers that grind up some animal leftovers and put it into the pig feed. So what you are doing is no way cruel in my mind : )

  • Hey Folks Love your Chooks ! Maybe you could let them adopt them. to give them closure.

  • aw ur sooo sweet!! u care sooo much fr da snails n da chickens!! AW ur a very sweet givin person!! very good job!! can't wait to see hw fat da snails got so da chickens can eat dem!! LOL!! lov it!!♥muhaa♥ =0Þ

  • um... ok?

  • mmmmm escargot

  • COOL

  • i dont know that chickens eat snails :/ well interessting video!

  • My Tipp:

Get some Ducks (those whith the green head, i don't know of White ducks do it to..)

They are eating Snails for there live ;)

    Whith Greetings,

    Jilu

  • Not cruel at all! It's actually very environmentally-conscious! Instead of using pesticides on your crop & instead of giving processed feed to your chickens, you're killing two birds with one stone, so to speak!

Yummy for the chickens, too! ;)

  • Wow what a crop that is.

  • Thanks for sharing your video... one comment. Are the snails you are harvesting native or invasive species? You might want to remove invasive species and keep natives --they play an important role in the natural biodiversity mix. I've linked to your video on BackyardNature DOT com

  • Thanks for the link!

  • 5 stars!

  • i put beer down in tubs. the snails and slugs love that over the veges and they die drunk - i think thats probably the best way to go dont u? (then u can feed them to ur chickens and they get tipsy too) lol

  • We kind of tried that but for slugs. Check out our video 'Slug Beer'.

  • It may be more humain to plung the snails in hot water killing quick. then store them in a container in the freezer. Then you would have a year round supply.

  • Great idea! You might also want to box a few up & try selling them on ebay - there are lots of places that don't get snails & everything sells on ebay!

  • Hey How Cool is that. Can you eat the uk garden snail. Maybe you could have a national snail hunt day. then send them to givingitago boys Lol

  • lol

  • Good video, but it is cruel to serve them to chickens unless they are cooked in a little olive oil and garlic.. Oh yes, they are for chickens, go for it.

  • i'm also an animal rights activist, but i approve.

    ^^

  • I should never eat dinner while watching your videos.. *barf..

As for feeding snails to the hens: If the chickens were running free range, they would be eating snails on their own. As it is, they have you, their own personal snail catcher. My chickens are free range and LOVE earwigs.

  • 31 July 2007

Feed the chickens the snails. In France, escargot ( snails ) are a delicacy and the French palate for snails is enormous. I would venture to say that the same is true in Japan and, unless I Miss my bet, China as well. In the final analysis. Since we eat the chickens, we effectively are also eating the snails. Plus, the snails will ruin the primary food source for the farmer if left unchecked. Now goodnight. Well done!

    "DRUM"

  • That was a great shot of them all in the jug.

I have stepped on more snails in the last fortnight than I can ever remember. And I am someone who actively goes out of his way to avoid crushing them. So either my kharma is shot for the rest of summer or somebody was saying the snail population is wildly out of control. "Chickens eat snails in the wild" Interestingly long pause after that. I wonder why. lol

  • I had not really thought about what to say. We are effectively killing snails it seems a bit wrong but when I think about it, I think it is ok. Some animals are meant to be eaten by others. That is nature.

  • and the great slug hunter strikes again!-Deb:)

  • I am all about animal rights, but I am all about feeding garden pests to foul. seems like a win win win win situation. the only ones getting the sheisse end is the snails, and they were in your garden, not out on the town minding their ow. I approve, and I only mention it because you asked. otherwise I'd keep out of it because it wasn't my business:)

  • Thanks for your comment. Please always feel free to tell us what you think. We welcome it.

  • I love your chooks, specially the white one.

It could rain all day & night here and all I get are tons of nightcrawlers. *L*

  • You should put water in the bucket

  • We did and lots of food like left over salads. There is a lot of good compost in there now.

  • Slugs are a bummer .

  • They certainly are. I planted about 5 little bunches of parsley and the slugs ate 3 of them, and 2 of my 4 chilli plants/

  • When I visited my friend in NY it was pouring and we had to run home cause it was late, and there were these huge slugs on the ground and we had to jump over them. There were hundreds.

  • The slug goop is a lot more goopy than snail goop so I don;t think the chickens like it. They prefer snails.

  • Free food for the chickens! Nothing wrong with that.

  • Snails have rights. to be eaten by a chicken is down right cruel. I prefer good ols slug pellets

  • I am not sure how exactly pellets work but I know it is very bad for the soil and extremely un-natural.

  • If slug pellets were bad for your garden, then the shops would not be able to sell them. Of course if you are on an eco system then this view may be valid.

  • What's the garden looking like, guys?

  • It is looking good. We are a bit behind with the videos, but we have a lot more coming.

  • down with slugs!

  • Indeed!

  • That is not cuel at all...quite natural really. I like what you guys are doing. It seems like you are learning alot. I am surprised that you have not gotten noticed a bit more yet. I think it will happen eventually. Keep it up!

  • Thanks I hope we do get noticed.

  • Disgusting... picking 'em up - watching the chickens eat them. all disgusting in an interesting type way... do the chickens eat the shell??

  • Yes they eat the shell. Infact the shell is very good for them as it contributes to the shells of the eggs that they lay.

  • Much better than using chemicals to kill them. Your not polluting the food chain. I go out and stamp on them at night. I supose it might be a quicker death than being eaten by a chicken!

  • Feeding the snails/slugs to the chickens doesn't seem cruel to me. You're really overrun with those things, wow.
