Back in 1967 (or so) there were a number of slot-car racing stores where you could rent time on the track and/or buy slot-cars. The trend just sort of evaporated for some reason. I'm surprised and happy people are playing with slot-cars in 2009! We had the home track but the commercial rental tracks were more fun.
@RacingTopsy They have not for me. I have been collecting and racing Tyco,AFX,Aurora T_JET for 38 years and I have 11Trophies. I have a fleet of 10,000 cars. I do restoration for various clients for fun as well as a well oiled business. My only crime is that I was too young when the slot car craze started.
that was awsome!!! my brother and i did this when we were kids in the 70's.kind of a bad idea but we used to put a little water on the track in the corners, until our mom found out and sead we'ed set the house on fire...ha ha ha
looks like your still running magnets - take them out! it feels much more realistic and you cann drift much better. and when u wana race jus slot them back in!
also, for CRAZY drifts put some tape over the tyres, its like running on ice lol
also sprinkle some baby powder on the track where ur gona drift for smoke effects!
I used to very lighly smear the tiniest coating of sewing machine oil alongside the groove to width of the axles, just before a corner .. and they'd slide all the way around :P greta fun.. must get me a slot car again someday...
I love slot cars but I had a really scrap setup. Then my friend game me a better set except it turned out the track was rusted so I still can't use it :(. anyway nice riding.
This is really nice to see that slot cars are stil cool with todays young people. I grew up with slot cars and I own the very exact race set that these guys have. It is the Carrera Evolution featuring the Plymouth Superbird and the Plymouth Roadrunner stockers from the early 70's. Ole Dan Gurney.
oh my gosh you did not just call that drifting. its called a slide you go in to the corner slow then give the little fuckers a huge gun outa the corner and the tyres slide out. that was not drifting drifting is a combination of using the handbreak clutch and accelerator to get your car side was befor during and after the corner going into another corner. but hey it is still fun to do. :)
Twas okay, But its not really a drift its more a controlled slide. Drifting is Popping the back out just before the turn and holding it right through the corner sideways. but is was okay, kinda impossible in Slot cars unless you have like a Hairpin
It's totally possible if you time it right and have the right kind of car. I used to do REAL drifting with my TT all the time before my local track closed. But it is next to impossible with these big Carreras because of their poor weight distribution and light weight. I know because I have a the "street version" of the blue superbird in this video. If you weigh them down they do a little better, but it's still easier and more effective to do this with smaller cars.
nice man, i got an afx slot car track not too long ago, seeing that inspires me to start trying to drift mine, u got any advice that could help get me started?
hmm. first try and run your car around the track and try to get it so you can several laps without having the car fly off. then once you know your a good driver, go slow until you get to a curve, then gun it. this takes practice though, so i suggest adding another magnet to the car
too much time on his hand? no... you have too much time on your hands, mr. i sit on youtube all day commenting people with a blind eye... why don't you get a life first kk bud ^_~
I found out. The track has been arranged from an old traditional russian folk song which is called "Korobeiniki", and it has been released by Ozma under the same title on the CD "The Doubble Donkey Disc" released in 2002. Nice
You're just "drifting" down the straights, as you come out of the curve. Drifting only helps in a race when you do it through a curve, to cut your lap times.
What you're doing here may look cool, but it's killing your lap times. If you want a real drifting car, pick up one of those new Scalextric models they have now with a rotating guide.
that is not drifting

you are "drifting" a little too late. it has to be AROUND the corner and not after. Try doing that

ive got a scaletric chevvy corvette, it drifts nicely like this.

It probably runs a lot BETTER than these do, actually.
I have the "street" version of the blue superbird seen in the video. It's underpowered and handles like a brick.
