Why the fuck did they stay with that producer Beau Hill??!! That guy was a big, fucking douche, especially trying to bring in another guitar player...WTF??!!!!
@ipsofacto297 DeMartini bypassed the speaker of an old Fender Champ practice amp and plugged it in 1 of the 12" speakers of a vintage Marshall 4X12 cab for the 1st 3 LPs of Ratt in the studio to get his sound. Fender champs sound awesome. A guitarist I jammed with in the early 80s had one. They are small combos with 1- 8" in them.
i like the point of the bass player say it is bad to say the wrong city you are in I had that happen with Motley Crue back in 1990 in the city of Murfreesboro, Tenn when they said something about glad to be in Nashville
Robin was, at his best, only a mediocre rhythm player. He was certainly no "Brad Whitford!" I saw them many times - even before they were signed. And Steven was very weak - especially live!
Juan Croucier was the most intelligent member of Ratt. He had a better grasp of reality compared to the others. BTW, he also was the only bandmate to support Robben Crosby to the very end!
@danewson Agreed.Btw, he had a "diminished roll" as a guitar god...but check out the credits...NO ONE has more song credits on all of Ratt's classic albums than Mr. Crosby...he wrote the shit Warren could solo over...Robbin was Ratt....and once he was out of the band they went down hill. However, their new album is good. Regardless, Robbin was a great writer
@phrydoom Absolutelly agree, even whem Warren is a great guitar player, clearly more skilled thet Robin Crosby, it was RC who wrote the classic Ratt song. I love guitar wizards but i always prefer a good songwritter

@danewson When you're a musician type it's not just about the money. Your ego swells enormously. You have huge crowds coming to see you, and in that case you want to be the center of attention, especially if you were the founding member and this young prodigy comes along and starts taking your spotlight. Without that spotlight, deep in your heart you know you're nobody. When you're a rockstar, it's about ego more than money, especially when you're bending your mind with drugs and booze...
poor robbin, that band was a cluster fuck, juan and bobby to an extant tried to take care of him, it wsa a brotherhood until someone just fucks it up, like pantera and like pantera, theres an unfair casualty, RIP Robbin and Dime to guitar gods up their in heaven
@ultimatemegadeath I agree. Pearcy is one ugly dude. Hed make a freight train take a dirt road. Plus all the STDs that were passed around. Pearcy wouldve never got as much "tail" as he calls it, if he hadnt been a rock "star". PERIOD
THIS is the difference between a flash in the pan band and a true legendary band, like Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. They burned up, too much is just too fuckn MUCH!
nice ending, "I'm F@#$ing writing songs, I can't write songs around people telling me what to write." lol I'm sure he was doing more than writing songs.
The phrase "Why don't we chill out the partying and do things in the appropriate manner?.......... must never, ever be uttered again by any rock band. Maybe Juan isn't familiar with the genre. " Appropriate Manner." Really?
The E.P., Cellar, and Dancing were all heavier than Invasion; except for You're in Love and Lay it Down. Got me on the Line was their worst song ever. It sounds like Britney Spears wanted to sound "hardcore." Nobody hangs up on Britney!
@CymaticSand even know got me on the line wasent there better tracks i have no clue where britney spears has any comparison with the song maybe cause i dont listen to that crap
Dancing under cover was a good album. But yeah it could have used a little more work and more time it problably would have been a even a better album if it woundnt have been for their dick head for a producer Beau Hill. And Invasion of your privacy i would agree was a little over produced it should have been more rawer like Out of the cellar! Beau Hill sucks!
@timewarped2the80s, Dancing Undercover suffered because their manager placed a deposit on the studio thus there was a short deadline. Beau wanted them out of the studio so early, each day, so he could work with his girlfriend Fiona (using Ratt's money) hence why Mike Stone was hired to produce Reach.
Stephen referred to Beau as Mr. Polish.
Ratt really needed a strong hand like Bob Rock (Motley Crue, Metallica) or Bruce Fairbairn (Aerosmith, AC/DC) to do justice to their sonic trademarks.
@danewson, true but I think Rob is still one of the best guitarists from the scene.
The styles of groove metal and sludge metal (hardcore punk mixed with Black Sabbath's doom metal sound) were pioneered by him when he recorded the '83 EP.
As Juan once said, Rob had the potential to be just as good as Warren and even better if it wasn't for him being hooked on drugs as well as alcohol.
Rob's creativity took a beating along with Stephen's voice (he became an extreme alcoholic in the mid '80s).
@logang95, if you think this is shocking then you should read Bobby's book or wait for Stephen's book RaTTails.
Juan once said on his message board that the making of "Reach for the Sky" was so lurid (think Motley Crue-esque decadence and Led Zeppelin-type debauchery) that he didn't want to be candid so as to not portray all the band members in a demeaning (or degrading) light.
Robbin said so much cocaine was being used during the making of Reach that it was comically surreal.
@chloewalker8089 It's not give it all. I just bought the album,,,,,,,again. On c.d. this time. I don't know what song it is though. Would like to know too.
I think Juan was a little different for the band, killer bass player, who kept it lively. He held Warren in high regard regarding the choice by Beau Hill to bring in a different guitar player insread of Warren. What was Beau Hill thinking? Warren is an awesome guitar player. My favorite part of this segment is where Juans bass comes loose and sails off over the drum kit into the arena... and Warren says "It was like someone picked up the building and dropped it down" Classic Juan moment!!!
@dplanefilms I think Juan had a lot of respect for all of the members of Ratt. But after a while Stephen seemed not only to be disrespectful to Juan and also very annoying!
@dplanefilms, Juan was crucial for Ratt's distinctive sound. Not only did he bring a lot of melodies to the band but his influences are so different from most hard rock and metal bassists.
He was into R&B and soul - Dancing Undercover is where he reigned supreme. That album did for Ratt what Hot Space did for Queen. It's almost a funk metal album.

@cody10184 Warren DeMartini is a bad ass on guitar ... and a very humble guy, which makes him even more cool. I had the privilege of visiting with him one on one for about an hour and a half back in 2001, and I will say that he's one of the friendliest and sincerest rock stars I've ever met.
@GuitarPlayer524 Warren is definetely one of the guitar players i would like to meet. I met George Lynch, Joe Satriani, Ozz Fox, and Michael Wilton. Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie and Steve Vai are other guitar players that i would like to meet. But Warren is definetely one of my absolute top favorites. I Sometimes stay up all night playing Dokken and Ratt stuff on the guitar. I cant get enough. Keep rockin
I once punched my drummer in the face during a recording session,in Spokane's Amplified WAX studio, over him not being able to play wile on junk, and then we replaced him.
