The pain doesnt last very long, and once the brand is done, an antibiotic is put on the wound to prevent infection. In the case of a freeze brand, the hair grows back white. With a normal brand, the skin is bare. Paint would wash off :)

There are different ways of branding now...freeze branding is not quite as bad as hot brands but better yet the guy could have tatoo'd in the horse's lip for identification...They very much feel the pain of the burn or he wouldn't have kicked..duh!

Try branding yourself and see how it feels. A horse its a living creature and branding them its inhumanly painful. Other alternatives such as tattooing (spaying or even freeze branding) should be put in place while a better solution is worked out.

poor baby! Isnt there a way of microchipping them like dogs? it would hurt less! He deserved to get kicked i hope it broke his rips. (not killed him though) Serves him right. ifeellikeageek you sound like someone who would abuse horses. you dont even care about the pain they go through for it!

There are different ways of branding now...freeze branding is not quite as bad as hot brands but better yet the guy could have tatoo'd in the horse's lip for identification...They very much feel the pain of the burn or he wouldn't have kicked..duh!

Its just a nickname lol...but yes...I am a horse breeder, trainer, trader so I know what I'm talking about...and I do wish they had a thicker hide cause they get slashed and hurt so easily.

Try branding yourself and see how it feels. A horse its a living creature and branding them its inhumanly painful. Other alternatives such as tattooing (spaying or even freeze branding) should be put in place while a better solution is worked out.

iv grabed red hot metal one time and still have a scar,ya i hurt bad but only for like an hour,an u can really probly argue that every thing is abuse to a horse like bits,and crops,spers and enlictric fences,ppl way over react

In the horses' case its premeditated and not self inflicted. I can understand the reasons behind branding animals but i don't agree with the methods currently employed to do so.

ok...natural responce for any animal in a situation were they are being hurt is either 1. to run away or 2. fight back..so the horse being cornered and hurt naturally kicked the hell out of the guy...and he deserved it there are more human ways of branding your horse for identification..so meh!
