Very well said Mr. Shinseki and I appreciate your perspective on the situation. Might I suggest that early development curriculum in our school teaching fundamental positive attitudes might help build the right attitudes and not just when the training of the military when our service men and women happens. When parents fail to build values and self-respect at the core of a new individual, they can be easily misdirected when released from the military.

A poor leader is what you get when the president appoints Shinseki as secretary. The 4th of July rally at the Houston National Cemetery was a disgrace. A lawsuit was filed against the secretary for infringement of 1th amendment rights and the cemetery director, Arleen Ocasio. Listen to the youtube video, God under Fire by the department of veterans affairs. This action seen to be a plot to take away God from the cemetery services. Who knows what sinister plots await veterans and families.

I had told the va of los angeles about countrywide in 1994 but was foreclosed and the va did nothing to help me to all the vet who was foreclosed write your letters. The va will spend to built new facillitys. Why not give the home s that was taken away. Email me at appatartc@yahoo.com

VA Secretary Shinseki should try to respond to the veterans who send him letters. I am 100% service connected been homeless and when I asked for help to get me and my wife off the streets I got no for an answer, my wife has stage three cancer , we lived on the streets for 8 months, this is crazy, I now have a homeless vet living with me and every day he tries to get help through the VA, andf nothing. I dont want to hear the bull he is saying here I want to see something done to help the vets.

The practices of the VA & much of our government are the #1 reasons why I would tell my son not to serve if he were to ask my opinion on the matter. This is not the same country my family & I served for so many generations. The VA is not honorable enough to even deserve to utter the words "Service" or "Veteran". I'm a veteran and I've been basically begging for help for years. I have kids and I'm homeless and I still can't get any assist fro VA. To Tell the truth my body is broken from the military and I don't even receive a pention, goto VA and still have a bill for mmy meds. how the hell imma pay for meds when I don't even have a place to live? I have no job because of my military injuries yet VA don't help me with anything. NOT EVEN A JOB. Somebody help.

I use to be proud to say i served my country, but lately i feel like a fool since i ruin my health and have to spend the rest of my life suffering in pain why i am force to deal with red tape, and lies from the government claiming they care i personally think the V A would rather bury a vet than help one.

If the DVA would get its' act together, a large amount of the Vets are homeless because of the Bureaucracy. Just recently, the DVA decided to eliminate the "work credit system", which is a fancy term for quota bonus. This bonus is ONE reason why half the claims were being denied, because VSRs were pressured to rush through claims by Management, so that their RO IS rewarded a bonus.

VSRs were missing important issues in the Vets claim. If your claim is to complex, you would end up in appeals.

Please don't give up. It took me almost a decade after I began trying to get my 100% permanent and total, and there were many times I considered stepping in front of a train or jumping off of a high building, but I wouldn't do that because I didn't want to let the fuckers at the VA win. All my fellow vets are in my prayers, and please, if you feel really down call and don't let the red tape strangle you to death...just remember there are people who care, and I am one of them. Stay safe!

@bigmack791 this is all lip service and so many need real help now and wont ever get it false hope is what i see.yes the people in the va system put on a good face to talk to you face to face and really they are laughing behindyour back they are programed by the va for the va.and payed by the va only a hand full of the va workers mean from there heart wht they say but they are programed to be nice in a nasty way from what it use to be.

@firendhole1 i have been on appeal for nine years.i finally got service connected on my heart only to get 0%ratting because they are waitting for mets score on my heart .the dr that did the c&p exam did not give the mets.there for until they get the mets no ratting.that was three years ago

@firendhole1 now may 5th 2010 va did set another c&p exam what i was told for the mets score.the dr.told me it was exam to see if i was service connected and there standeards have changed there for my heart will no longer be service connected and i loss out.0% ratting on my heart just three years ago.

@firendhole1 ive had five c&p exams for this condition.according to the schedual va uses i should be drawing 60%or better just for my heart condition.the law judge orderd the remand and in an expediant manner in jan2007 this is late may 2010.nothing moving very fast.

@firendhole1 2002 till now is almost eight years and the va has done about all they could do to make me a prisoner of there own red tape and string me along.get my hope up to just let me down.there is nothing fare and equal about the va seystem just read some of the desions on line.when you have time everyones case is differant.most have same like conditions.but no ratting seems to be the same.

When they come home, we expect them to simply return to being the creators of Life, as they were born to be... but what they have been made to do is not something that can be forgotten.

The cure is to be forgiven, and neither the military, nor the population, is willing to do that for them. They are called ''heroes''. But the soldiers know the truth of what they were.
