  • This is why Chevy is better!

  • How fast was that, I've already hit into a telephone pole sideways in my Jeep Cherokee and had no bodily damage at all, the Jeep was totaled because of the A-post. Everything else would have been replaced cheaply but the A-post would have cost too much to replace

  • Question... how would you crash like that?

  • @TheMratom23 that's why i don't like these pole tests because they're kinda unrealistic.in a real crash if your sliding sideways and hit something you'll deflect off one way or the other, you're not being held in one position and forced into it

  • @osp80

These tests are designed to show weak spots in the side structure, not necessarily replicate a real-world situation.

  • It did poorly as the 2011 Ram 1500 still does not have seat mounted side-impact air bags. It only has roof mounted side-curtain air bags. It needs side-impact air bags to help protect the torso area of the body.

Whenever Ram does finally add those missing side-impact air bags to the 1500, Heavy Duty 2500/3500, and Power Wagon, it should throw in dual front knee air bags for the driver and front passenger, for good measure.

  • Oh no, I'm disappointed. I mean - It doesn't look bad, it seems to me that the structure did a pretty good job of resisting the intrusion...

  • It looks like the side airbag fired late so the dummys head got a massive blow. The front airbags deploying may also be considered a demerit?

  • @jeepthing98

Believe it or not, the airbag did it's job. HIC (Head Injury Criteria) was around 500 (Which is acceptable), the main issue was that the dummy struck hard panels on the door that caused unacceptably high thorax readings.

  • @CarPro1993 Interesting. When the front airbag deploys it almost looked like it induced neck injuries since it fired out when the dummy movement was reacting to the curtain bag.

  • @jeepthing98

There was no head contact with the driver's front airbag, the colored paint seen flying was from the gasses flying outwards from the deployment.

  • the test is by NHSTA so chrysler has no choice but to improve the safety

  • That's awful.

  • Chrysler needs to wake up or they are going to Ch 7. Somebody is going to get killed in the ram.

  • Why is the new one so bad?

  • @573W1E6R1FF1N

Because they spend all of their money on advertising rather than making a decent vehicle.

  • Wow, I'm really unimpressed by how badly the 2011 Dodge Ram is for safety.
