  • Thank you 4 sharin this . . . .

  • @kstewintheart4u You are welcome

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks so much for your tutorials they have been a great help to me, any chance of a tut on filet crochet as that is something I would like to do

    Many thanks

    Chris

  • Question: If you want to use more loops, say 10 just for an example, would you need to make the loops bigger for the more you want to group since you want to match the number of loops with the number of stitches? It just seems to me you would have to, but I figured you might be able to tell how many of say the size you did here without having to increase the size. Thanks!!

  • this stitch is called PERUVIAN STITCH but it actually comes from PARAGUAY

  • let me get tis right...if you use four loops, you would do four single crochet?

  • @1nd1en1le Yes that is correct. If you wanted to change it a bit, you could do 6 loops, 6 single crochet or 3 loops, 3 single crochet. Mix it up a bit.

  • i am going to try this with a bracelet first.. than i can graduate.

  • @mecca115able A bracelet sounds interesting!

  • I have a question :) if you use a smaller knitting needle would the stitch come out smaller??

  • you rock i love your crocheting can you sub me?

  • hai teresa; i am searching for a oval shape table mat for my table. if u have any please post me that video

  • Hi,

Thank you very much, you did an excellent job!

  • When working broomstick with #10 crochet thread on a US17/12.5mm needle (size 7/1.65mm hook) and a high number of loops, I've found that a provisional cast-on is so much easier than wrangling with a long, skinny chain. Keeping an accurate loop count is a breeze! Now, if only I could find 27" long circular needles in nice large sizes! =)

  • we didnt get this type of yarn in india . what type it called dual colur ?

  • @rituvip It is called variegated yarn. This color has been discontinued so it is not available to us any longer either.

  • we didnt get this type of yarn in india

  • THIS IS SOOOOO COOOL!!! Thanks

    peggy

  • @pegschr You are welcome!

  • I was wondering if you could answer a question about this stitch..... how would you connect them to make a sweater? can you even make a sweater with this stitch? Can you do more than 16 at a time? BTW... you are a great teacher!!

  • @MrsBabyLearn You could sew the edges together. The width can be as long as you want.

  • very beautiful and well explained, Theresa. Thank you very much!

  • @lelhajj100 You are welcome! I appreciate the comment.

  • Thank You so much! I will try.

  • O!No!Thanks!

  • @mystarmoonsun It was produced by Caron so maybe they have something similar. A lot of people have been interested in the colors so if you all write to them, maybe they could bring it back.

  • Hi!Could U please tell me what brand the yarn is on the video? it was my favour color blue & white. It 's hard to find it. Which store did U buy it?I Really want to buy same one on the video. It seens so soft.Baby yarn?I could make a scarf?Tell me please.Thank You!

  • @mystarmoonsun The yarn has been discontinued for several years.

  • Firstly: Thank you so much for this video. Broomstick lace actually makes sense to me now!

Secondly: I didn't have a giant knitting needle or a dowel. You know what I wound up using? We bought a corner shower shelf thing and it comes with a spare rod. It was the perfect diameter and is even tapered on one end. I just wrapped the other end with tape like you said. Also, I usually hold the hook like a knife, but holding it like a pencil gives a lot more control when putting the loops on the rod.

  • @AmishVomitCake Thank you for sharing your suggestions. There are many types of round rods that will work for broomstick lace.

  • it is very useful tutorial.

    I'm going to try it.!!

    thx

  • Thank you soooooo much! I am a beginner (I learned to crochet last winter watching your videos!) I saw this stitch used to make a sweater and have been SEARCHING EVERYWHERE for how to do it (i didn't know the name of the stitch). Thank you again for sharing your skills with all of us!

  • how about using a wooden spoon with a long handle?

  • Thank you for showing how you hold the large knitting needle between knees. This really helped me! I was attempting to hold everything in two hands as I saw another you-tuber do... My broomstick lace scarf is coming along very nicely now. :)

  • Thank you so much for these easy to follow instructions!! Lovely stich!

  • You can get the dowel at any hardware store or even some walmarts have them

  • @GoldieP716 Thank you for sharing your tip. I know I am going to give it a try.

  • @GoldieP716 why not just use a wooden spoon?

  • My mother in law has been making broomstick afghans for over 20 years. It is so nice to see it coming back again. It was becoming a lost art. I can make them, but they are never as pretty as hers. BTW, a wooden dowl with a wooden knob works well, that's what she uses and the other end rounded to a semi point. She also puts the stick under her one arm.

  • @GoldieP716 Where would someone find the dowel like she is using?

  • how much yarn should I buy to make a scarf?

  • @lovstormyweather I would suggest that you purchase 700yards/600meters. One skein will work if it is a large skein of yarn.

  • Can someone make a hat using this stitch?

  • @pinklilwat That's exactly why I ended up here :)

I saw this pattern for a hat and had never heard of this stich before

I found it at crochetme . com

  • OK!! Iam using a marker here and imagine I've put it on my knees too and my back hurts,LOL!!

  • Love your instructions. Can you change colors in broomstick lace crochet?

  • @violetta40 yes, you can change colors.

  • @tjw1963 Hi Teresa, can I also have the link on how to change colors with the broomstick lace, please?

I would like to make an adult blanket with this gorgeous stitch, I wonder if I should use the same type of knitting needle you use in the video, or should I find me a long stick or PVC pipe, and how wide should it be?

Thank you so much in advance!

  • I was wondering, Teresa. Couldn't you use a Tunisian hook to do this stitch instead of using a crochet hook and a knitting needle?

  • Hello from Wyoming ... I saw a crochet stitch that I'd like to try to learn, it's called Bavarian Crochet . Could you tell me if you know what this is and how to do it please ?? Thanks ahead of time. Lisa Catherine

  • @lisacatherineobl I will send you the link for what I think you are talking about.

  • @tjw1963 That's it !! Thank you so very much !! Your just great you know, you have taught me how to crochet and given me a gift I've longed for... Thank you for being online and for your time and love to teach others !! God bless, Lisa Catherine

  • @tjw1963 see here Catherine wheel stitch blanket, it is worked in rounds .. that is what you are looking for x

  • Oh wow...I should have known to check your crochets stuff first. Glad I had not started my project yet. Very pretty! Can't wait to try this...thank you for sharing!

  • @Rosebudette You are welcome.

  • Teresa...I am almost finished with my lapghan of broomstick lace. It's looking good but I am concerned how to edge it because the left hand side where all the rounds begin looks pretty ragged. Do you have any suggestions...I searched the internet far and wide and can't find any help on this issue. I always come back to you for my videos because you are the best out there as far as I can tell!

  • @cs9295 I would suggest a simple single crochet on the edges.

  • thank you for this video- easy to understand.

  • Teresa, you could use your left hand to hold the needle. You don't have to lay it down.

  • I was really intimidated to try this stitch after reading how to do it. I love your tutorials so much. Keep them coming.

  • @nannab1953 Thank you.

  • Great lesson! Thanx...=-)

  • Best on on this lace I've seen yet. Thanks so much :D

  • @OMGoshYouDidWhat Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • must require with closed captions or subtitle due I am deaf.

  • I really like this Teresa!! you're amazing!

  • @oraclearcane Thank you.

  • I saw this pattern first time on a knitted scarf, and ALWAYS thought how it was made, and seeing this vid makes me go like "OF COURSE!"

    Thanks T!

  • I bought a pvc pipe 3/4" it looks bigger than the needle that you are using what size pvc pipe should I use?? I could not find a 19 mm or 15 mm knitting needle please help

  • 19mm is 3/4 of an inch

  • @lkr5252 I have never heard for a size 17.

  • @tjw1963 There will be 4 single crochet in each set of loops.

  • Great video, but I'm a bit confused. When you took off the first four loops you did a chain then 4 sc. Then watching further when you took off the first four loops on the second row you did a chain & then only 3 sc. Did the chain count a one of the 4 sc. I'm a bit confused, sorry. I hae never done this stitch before & am trying it for the first time. Please help! It was your season 2 episode 29 video with the varagated blue & white yarn. Thanks much.

  • you are the very best I love your videos myself keep doing beautiful work and videos

  • Thank you.

  • can you also send me the video on how to change colors in the broomstick stitch also if making a blanket would you have to have a very long pcp pipe?

    thank you

  • You can use as long of a pipe as you want to. The stitches will gather on to a smaller one but larger will work too. I sent you a link for changing color.

  • @tjw1963 Hi Teresa, LOVELY stitch. Would you please send me the video on how to change colors please. I want to make an adult size blanket, what size stick will I need, can I do it with a knitting needle like the one you use on the video?

  • This looks interesting but I need a pattern for lace (?) that will join two knitted panels together in an afghan.

  • Sorry, I just read the below response, i am learning on the blogs

  • It is alright, I have found that 125-150 chains work well for a baby afghan.

  • what blog I am a beginner also

  • I am also wanting to make a baby blanket with the broomstick lace and would like to know how many stitches i put on the needle.

  • I found an old crochet book with this stitch however the directions were not as clear as you are demonstrating. I want to make a baby blanket using this stitch I wanted your opinion on how many chains will i need to make to make a babies blanket using the 4 loops and chain 4 ? will I have to chain a even number in order for this to come out correct and can you show how or the best way to change colors?

Thank you again for your time and patients.

  • I would estimate a chain of 125-150 for a baby blanket. It would be an even amount of stitches in increments of 4, since you will be using 4 loops. I have a separate video that I will send you for attaching new color.

  • Thank you for your swift reply. You always respond back and I appreciate it!!!! P.S. to TEENKNIT, it is so MUCH easier to crochet and it progresses very quickly:-)

  • Love your tutorails and how kind you are. Stupid question here (forgive me) but is it better to use s stiff yarn?? The softer yarn seems to lose its shape, for me anyway! Thank you!

  • You can use any yarn that you want to use. Some of the acrylic yarns will hold their shape better than the softer yarns. I know I like the stiffer yarns that hold their shape.

  • I was looking for something to do over the RavelOlympics and you just gave me an idea. I've not tried Broomstick lace yet it has been on my Want to Learn for a long while. Watched this video a dozen times. I think your instructions are clear and very easy to follow. I can see using my broomstick under my arm - used to do that while "trying" to figure out knitting. (total phail LOL ) Thanks again for your great tutorials!

  • Yeah maybe you're right, it seems easier working with the knitting needle between your knees. It's nice that you show us different ways so that at the end we can try them and decide which we prefer.

    Have a nice day

  • thank you for all of your videos! I have learned so much from you! Keep up the great work!

  • Hola TJ, he visto este punto antes, conocido como el punto peruano. Perfecto tutorial. Recuerdos.

  • Gracias.

  • I don't have a good knitting needle to use can you use a afgan crochet hook?

  • An afghan hook will probably be to small. You can use pvc pipe or an actual broom handle.

  • if i could crochet this would be great , but alas im a knitter .

  • Beautiful work, very clear instructions thank you for sharing:)

  • You are welcome.

  • i love doing this lace....it never ceases to amaze people.... they think it is so complex...

  • It is a very pretty stitch.

  • AMAZING! Thanks! What a beautiful lace stitch!

  • You are welcome. I appreciate the comment, thank you. :)

  • hola alguien puede explicar en español ,y muy buena las explicaciones te felicito.

  • Dear Teacher,

    u r wonderful!!!

    love you....

    Regards,

    Kiran

  • Thank you, :)

  • JUST WHAT I NEEDED! Thank you soooooo much. It is easy to see, hear and understand.

  • Thank you. Happy crocheting. :)

  • just wanted to say, i am thoroughly enjoying your tutorials. very easy to follow and i have learned soooooo much. you actually saved me $70 as i was going to take crochet classes.

thank you for your patience and time. i will keep looking forward to your tutorials

  • You are welcome, I appreciate the comment. Happy crocheting.

  • ok so i am working this into an afgan that i am doing but its sorta free form, and i am doing this stich into triangle shape, how easy is it to decrease this? i thought i could figure it out and i think i can i am still on the first row... so any help is appreciated! thanks.

  • If you are working in sets of 4, you can combine your loops at the single crochet row. There are a few ways that I can think of. The first would be combining 8 loops with 4 single crochet at each end. If you want more of a gradual decrease, you could combine 2 loops with the first set of 4 and two loops with the second set of 4 at both sides. The last way would be to work 2 single crochet on the last two sets of loops on both sides.

  • When you add loops, you will have a reduced number of stitches when you pick them back up.

  • i know how often you hear this but i truly hope it never loses its meaning "you are the best" "you are a gem" "i love your videos" "i learn so well from you" all these things are true for me. THANK YOU!!!

  • I really appreciate the comment, thank you very much. Happy crocheting.

  • my aunt showed me to do this stich using a new sturdy plunger handle it's easier to hold because you can place in on the floor to hold it still and it makes the same size hole... just an idea. it really worked for me.

  • Thank you for the comment and suggestion.

  • it took me 2 trials to get it right. i'm doing so well that, i'm able to put the loops on the knitting needle without using the crochet hook.

a million thanks for every idea that you've shared with us.

  • for me this is a very frustrating stitch. every time i do it i end up with something wrong. but then again i only learned to crochet in february.

  • I would suggest trying something different. There is no point in becoming frustrated.

  • Your instruction style is excellent. Thank you for this. I learned broomstick in about 1977, did one baby blanket - for whom I cannot even recall, and promptly forgot how. I've been wanting to relearn and here you are on the internet showing us! Thank you so very much!

  • Thank you, I appreciate your comment.

  • Teresa,

Thank you for your video on broomstick lace. I made several unsuccessful attempts at it in my late teens, early 20's but got flustered by the book directions. Now that I can SEE how it's done, it's not so difficult. Thank you again and I look forward to watching more of your informative videos!

  • Thank you. :)

  • THANK YOU!!! I am confident that I can do this fairly easy being left handed. I have been watching your vids for lefties and they are GREAT!!!! I am learning a lot. THANK YOU!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • I really like the broomstick lace. I am in the process of making an afghan for my sister. However I do good for the first row or two and then after that I do not know where I am going wrong. I get to the last few loops and only have 2 or 3 loops to finish with.. What am I doing wrong? I have went slowly even counting carefully and I still am a few loops off. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Somewhere you are missing a stitch along a row. Even with counting it can be easy to miss a stitch sometimes. Make sure all your segments have the same amount of loops and you will find where you missed the stitch.

  • Thanks so much! I love your tutorials! I will try to do this again and make sure I am counting VERY carefully..Thanks again

  • I love that yarn! Where did you get it?

  • It was by caron but has been discontinued.

  • I absolutely love your tutorials. I hadn't crocheted since I was about 13, until about six months ago. Within that time I forgot most of the stitches until watching your tutorials. I picked back up again like I never stopped. You have the neatest projects and I've tried quite a few with excellent results. I can't wait to try this one... Keep up the good work!

  • Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your video. I have been crocheting for about 42 years and I'm very excited to try something new. My husband said try it in thread! Ha! Have you tried the boullion stitch yet? I just can't get it right. Betty

  • Thank you. Did you see the little contraption that I made for the bullion stitch. I will send you the link.

  • Oh yes please! I'm MyMimsies on Etsy. Have you ever considered selling some DVD's there? You would have a handmade of handmade!

    ((((((((((HUG)))))))))

    Pam

  • You are amazing! I've been crocheting for 40 years, and watching you was not only a treat, but I actually learned a few things! I adore the broomstick lace since I have always knitted with the needle stuck between my knees.

    You are a TREASURE.

  • My goodness, that is so tedious, but absolutely beautiful. You are a great instructor.

  • Thank you very much. :)

  • I'm trying to get past the chain sticth, this is so cool I can't believe it's here. I'll be watching this many times and looking for more of your video's thanks so much

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Teresa,

you have the best video tutorials on the web! They are so easy for me to follow- i've made so many of your patterns just watching them. i've tried to follow some other knitters but the lighting is too dark or they just dont know how to explain the stitches clearly.

Would you consider posting how tos on the pinwheel stitch, ripple stitch, and zig zag pattern stitch? i just cant learn from anyone else! :)

    thanks again!!

  • Thank you. I have three tutorials posted for the ripple crochet which is the same as the zig-zag.

  • Thank you for teaching this method in such an easy to understand way. You have a great talent and I appreciate you for sharing that.

  • Thank you very much. :)

  • Thank you! I have always wondered how to do this stitch. Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it is very clear and easy to follow. Well done.

  • You are welcome. I appreciate your comment.

  • ~~~!awesome!~~~

  • Thank you. :)

  • We were given a broomstick afghan by my husbands grandmother and I just loved it because I had never seen one before, and none of his family could tell me how to make one. It is a beautiful stitch and I think I become more and more grateful every time I check out your videos. You are wonderful at your craft and very easy to follow. Thank you again~

    .

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Thank you. :)

  • I know this would be a lovely scarf stitch but how would I transform this into a hat. lol I know that it might be difficult, if so what would be a smaller stitch that i could pair it with so it would look like a set.

    Thank-you in advance.

  • You could do a single crochet or seed stitch.

  • Continued ( I got so excited I hit post accidently)

You have definately helped make things a lot clearer for me. I can't wait to get started!

  • A million thank yous!! I am a beginner, teaching myself, and you have made things so clear. I have how to books, and have been doing okay, and I have seen some tutorials that have given me ideas, but you have DEFINATELY

  • You are welcome. :)

  • wow! great work out for the legs and the brain!! you are simply THE BEST!!

  • Thank you. :)

  • Wow. I have been reading and watching a lot of other tutorials and I have to say, yours are by far my favorite and you make it easy to understand! I am a stay at home mom and have been wanting to learn to crochet for a while and just haven't got the hang of it till now. Thanks so much!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • can you use any size needle to do this stitch. also when you do the four single crochet do you do them inside the four loops

  • Yes, you can use any size needle and/or crochet hook. The crochet hook goes through all 4 loops.

  • Thank you so much for this . I had an aunt that made me a afghan over 25 years ago that my ex-hasband lost and I could never find the pattern. Well, here it is. I was done by the broom stick lace. I will be making one of these very , very soon.. thank you so much .

  • You are welcome. :)

  • i love this stitch. So if you wanted to do three loops you would just make your chain in the mutiple of three (or two five and so on) right. thanks for all you do

  • You are welcome. :) The multiple would be 3 and you would do 3 single crochet in the 3 loops instead of 4.

  • thank you very much , I really liked it a lot and I did learned a lot from you , thanks again, and I want to ask you something , I bought a pattern crochet book but I couldn't make any thing from it 'cause I didn't know the writting things the wrote and I was wandering if I can scan them and send them to you , and you teach us all how to make those patternes.

  • You are welcome. :)

I know you have good intentions in wanting to share but sending crochet instructions constitutes copyright infringement without full permission from the author.

  • This is such an amazind stitch/pattern! Thanx so much for sharing! "HUGS"

  • I meant to type AMAZING! lol. "NARF!"

  • You are welcome. :)

  • hi, do you know how to crochet legwarmers?, i need to make some for my niece for dance class but i was wondering if you can help me out

  • There are many free patterns online for legwarmers.

  • I just love broomstick lace. Thanks for teaching such a wonderful stitch.

  • This is such a beautiful stitch teresa thank's for the video...Seema
