I LOVE THIS GUY. "If you can't make a living as an artist, you aren't doing it right". Absolutely true, and not just artists; although, it seems that the arts are more prone to people who want to be lazy and not put out the effort. Not because the arts are easier, but simply because they are more objective than, say, sciences. I agree with you, though, that no matter what your chosen field, ambition and dedication will trump any sense of entitlement someone might have.
I took your advice and started my webcomic because it was an idea I loved and something I wanted to do. So in two weeks I made my website and started drawing my webcomic theres not a lot yet but I have been making issues for it
I'm working on my own online comic...Ive drawn up over 2000 draft pages i think I'm a Little obsessed.... but what really aggravates me is the fact that i don't have my cintiq yet. & when i finally get it I'm going to have to spend at least 2-4 month getting good with the thing, before i even think of posting my first comic.... I'm a freelance security guard so money isn't a issue... its just something i have to do...
I couldnt draw arms and heads good. Later on I draw one hour every day then it turned into 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 plus an extra 2 doing reseach on the internet. I feel like I can draw with the mentality to want to get better no matter how bad my drawings are because I know I will get better because if I daw while learning to draw improvement will show. My new method of drawing now is if I dont want to draw im not going to force my self to draw because it will cause me not to draw. So I only

Heh You said it Lar. Every art teacher at my university says "You better make what people WANT to see. Beauty is NOT in the eye of the beholder. You better make it pleasant to view and make it grab people's attention or else you are NOT going to make it. After you've done what others want you to do, then do what you want to do." Heck many of my art teachers are artists first and teaching is their supplemental income. Of course it coming from you and not a teacher is a bit refreshing :)
@reka10 Van Gogh was a hard working artist who didn't whine about not getting an arts grant to support his work. He worked and painted his ass off and his brother did sell his work during his lifetime, albeit for small amounts. It's just that he sadly ended his life before his work achieved it's full recognition.
@reka10 My point was about the stereotype and artists who feel 'entitled' to the world giving them a living. I know many artists who I wish were rich and famous because I personally think highly of their talent. Some don't pursue that goal. Some haven't had a break yet. None of them feel entitled to handouts.
Wow. Lar, you just made me fell a HELL of a lot better about being a musician. Because everything you said right there, ties in so perfectly. So, thank you. So much. And keep doin what you do, cause youre far beyond amazing at it.
Also, The beard and Fez hat, they work for you. Keep em. XD
This is probably the first time I've heard Lar being angry/upset.
Lar's voice is so powerful and magical that it can go from smooth and sleep-enducing to angry and yelling at the drop of a hat. At the drop of another hat it can go back to smooth and sleep-enducing.
Very true. Thanks for the Soap Box. :3 lol Smurfs and Furries. (Angry Fez is awesome) Also bringing a sketchbook to a wedding is amazing. More power to you Lar! <3
That fez-hat looks like my smoking cap, albeit a little taller.

I can see how this could go over to writers as well. Write until you get sick of it and until you have to do it. I like this. Thank you.
