its a great thing you were considerate and you thought about his health,appearance and self-confidence.i feel very sad when i think about how my parents always talked about taking me to the doctor so he can take a look at my eye but never actually did that (strabismus appeared at age 4). later i had a surgery but still not completely satisfied with results. my self confidence is very low and i never look at people in their eyes (a lot of people find it as a certain insult).your son is lucky :)
